Church of Hope

History of the Church of Hope in Corinth, Maine

Erected 1845.  Resurrected  2003.

The spirit of the Corinth people has always been one of conservation.  “Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without” has long been the rule of thumb.  In that light, Corinth, Maine saw in September 2003, the renewal of the second Corinth Methodist Meeting House, located on the Skinner Settlement on the west side of town.  While the building is the product of the frontier revival movement of the 1830's and 1840's, the new found spirit of the place finds its roots in the long standing religious tradition of the town.

Pastor Jean White, and her ‘Ministers’, God’s People, have stated in their “Voice of Hope” Newsletter (vol. 1 #2, Fall 2003), that their mission is simple:

“We believe in One God, who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and the Savior of all men and women who put their faith in Him alone for eternal life.  We believe that those ho receive new life in Christ are called to be holy in character and conduct, and can only live this way by being filled with the Lord’s Spirit.  We believe in the Bible and seek to establish our faith and actions on its teachings.  We believe God wills for people everywhere to know Him and that the purpose of the Church is to tell the world about Christ through its worship, witness, and loving deeds.”

Celebration of the Lord began at the “new” Church in the fall of 2003 with Grand Opening Celebration Special Services.  Each evening from September 8 –12, at 6:30 P.M., special messages were delivered on the following schedule:

Monday ~ Who is This God?

Tuesday ~ Who is This Jesus?

Wednesday ~ Who is this Spirit?

Thursday ~ What is Man?

Friday ~ Why Should I believe?

At the time of their Grand Opening, the Church of Hope was seeking ceiling restoration, landscaping, pew Bibles (NIV), draperies, linoleum and Bible Club materials.  Let’s hope they have been successful in their quest.
