The Reviews

"HIGHLANDER is a tender tale of two lost souls who are written beautifully. Ms. Dunbar has breathed life into Luke and Skye, and I found myself feeling for each of them with what they had to overcome. I really wanted to see this couple end up happy. The plot flows smoothly throughout the book, and there are a few twists and turns along the way that kept my interest. The writing is of the good quality we are finding in e-books today. I found HIGHLANDER a lovely way to spend the afternoon." ~ Romance Communications

"Heartwarming and entertaining! A true joy to read! It was wonderful to see the relationship grow between Luke and Skye and the rape and its aftermath were handled beautifully in helping the reader understand Skye's character. A book I'd recommend to my friends and I believe I will. I look forward to reading more from this author." 4 Stars! ~ Reviewed by Maureen Boylan ~ Scribes World Reviews

Highlander, by Celia Dunbar, published by Hard Shell Word Factory, Rating: * * * stars

Throughout the book, the writing is fluid, the storyline believable and the characters strong. Celia Dunbar is a poet with words, ingeniously showing everything. The reader feels the chill of winter and cold stone, tastes the hard bread and ale, sees the vibrant colors of the tartan, hears the hoofbeats of advancing enemies and smells the rancid water of stagnant ponds. Rain becomes a soft caress as "drops of moisture cascade from barren branches and spatter against a rich blanket of leaves made soft by winter's kiss."

I found "Highlander" to be an immensely satisfying read, a well-written tribute to the historical romance genre. Megan Kopp, Reviewer ~~ Inscriptions Magazine.

Read what SharpWriter has to say about my story.

Highlander A Scottish historical Romance by Celia Dunbar, Hard Shell Word Factory.

Highlander takes place in 1295 during Scotland's struggle to win its freedom from England. The story opens with Luke MacRae and his witness to the brutal death of his twin brother. In pain over his loss, brought on by the invading English and the traitor clan Lindsay, Luke vows to seek his revenge. Then, as fate would have it, he captures a Lindsay as a small band of travelers attempt to cross MacRae holdings. When the face of the intruder is uncovered, he is surprised to discover that the traitorous louse he is about to run through is a woman. Skye is the widow of a Lindsay, therefore not of Lindsay blood, but that little fact has no bearing on the pain-burdened heart of the Highlander. He quickly changes tactics and whisks her and her traveling companion, her sister, off to his keep where he will hold them hostage while his demands for ransom are delivered. And so a journey of healing, and restoration for Luke MacRae and Skye Lindsay begins. Skye and her beloved Highlander have deep emotional scars, as well as the harsh realities of that time in history, to overcome as they struggle with their growing love, each for the other, and the possible outcome of that love. The author's research and attention to detail is apparent as she weaves a tale of clan pride and honor; of pain and healing, and a love to set any romantic's heart to flutter. The reader is drawn into the story by characters that are believable and endearing. I would highly recommend Highlander to anyone who enjoys history and, the artfully told, unfolding of a great love story. ~~ Mary Adair, SharpWriter.
