Kayla sat alone on the couch. She was thinking about Camille, how she was pregnant. Camille hadn’t announced it yet but it was obvious to both Emilie and Kayla. Kayla had shared her secret with Emilie the night before when she was sitting up at 3 am. Emilie had come out of her bedroom to go to the washroom and had found Kayla sitting in the dim living room sipping hot chocolate.
“What’s up?” Emilie asked as she sat down in the arm chair across from Kayla.
“Couldn’t sleep.” Kayla smiled at her friend.
“Your worried about Camille aren’t you?” Emilie said. Kayla nodded. “I wouldn’t worry.” Emilie smiled.
“She is pregnant” Kayla said.
“I know” Emilie said.
“How? Camille told you?”
“No, I just knew. I knew before we even took her to the doctor’s” Emilie said. “It’s just one of those things..”
“I guess so.”
“So how did you find out?”
“I overheard her telling AJ on the phone.” Kayla sighed.
“You shouldn’t have been listening in on her.” Emilie said.
“I know but I was so worried about her. I didn’t know what to do.” Kay took a sip of her hot chocolate.
“Well.. Don’t tell Camille that we know. Let her tell us for herself. And we must act surprised.” Emilie smiled.
“How can you be happy for her? The poor child. I mean she is just 19 years old! I mean the baby is going to have one heck of a time. I mean Camille isn’t old enough to raise a child! she is still a child herself.!” Kayla said.
Emilie nodded “Just look, she is a grown girl, she can make these decisions for herself and if she decides to keep the baby then be happy for her even though you may not improve. She will need all her friends support!” Emilie said “Now you get off to bed you have a scuba lesson in the morning!” Emilie scooted her off to bed.
Now it was noon, Kayla had just returned to find that Emilie had gone out with Camille for lunch. Kayla went and ran herself a warm bath. She needed to relax. She took her cordless phone and her book into her bathroom. She lit five lavender candles and began to read her novel.
She was wrapped up in the storyline when the phone rang. It surprised her and she dropped her book into the water. “Damn it” she cursed as she pulled the soaking book out of the water and placed it on the floor. She answered the phone. “Hello?” She said.
“Hey my love!” Nick said.
“Oh darling, How are you?” She asked.
“I am good. Hey have you heard about Camille and AJ?” He asked her.
“Yeah what a shock eh? Camille hasn’t announced anything yet but I heard her talking with AJ on the phone yesturday. Can you believe it?” Kay said.
“All the guys are so happy for AJ. AJ, himself, is beaming all the time! He wants to tell the whole world right now but Camille and him are going to announce it on our next television appearence. I think it is a little risky. But hey it is their lives right?” Nick said.
“Yeah theirs. I don’t like it at all Nick. I mean she is only 19. It will be hard on her to have a baby.” Kay said.
“No it won’t Kay, She wants the baby. So does AJ. It isn’t like the baby isn’t wanted. Also the baby will have whatever it needs. AJ can definatly support her and the baby.” Nick said.
“Well I just don’t agree with it.”
