Adult Jaguars are 5 to 8 feet long and 18 to 30 inches tall. It stands 2 feet high, and weighs about 200 pounds. Its tail length 30 inches. It has a large rounded head, a deep chest, massive limbs, and short sleek hair.
Jaguars are often confused with leopards because both have a similar golden brown fur and black rosette spots. However, the jaguar has a more stocky and muscular body and a shorter tail.
The jaguar preys upon most any kind of animal, including deer, armadillos, boars, turtles, birds, and fish.

Jaguars once lived in the southern United States and Uruguay, but are now only found in Mexico and Central and South America. This is because they are now in danger of extinction. The largest number of Jaguars is found in the Amazon Rain forest. They live mostly in swampy, wet lowlands.
Unlike many other big cats, except for man, the jaguar has no rivals. No other predator can compete with this mighty, powerful cat.

During the sixties and seventies, around 18,000 jaguars were killed every year for their coat. Due to environmental pressure, the fashion for animal furs has declined, but the jaguar is still hunted.
An estimation of only 15,000 jaguars are left in the wild.
