Local drivers took on the country's best at Calder Park recently. Locally known drivers at the meeting included Bacchus Marsh driver Paul Rogers, ex Ballan and Gordonresident Greg Farrow and Mt. Clear's Craig Geddes (a former Buninyong resident). Ballarat's Terry Emery was also competing and had a strong following from locals in attendance. Craig ran true to form, winning for the forth time in succession in the Super Gas Class Terry, a winner at the last two meetings was runner up while Paul ran a personal best on the day of 8.4 seconds. He competed in the Pro Stock category in his Mazda 626, Greg ran 10.1 in the altered dragster section, Craig 9.19 in Super Gas with his new Camira and Terry 8.4 in Modified Bike. Terry had the assistance of former Ballan worker Peter Pearce in preparing his bike. Pearce won a number of Australian Championships aboard the Top Fuel, "Pennzoil," bike. He is currently building a new Top Fuel bike. |
Greg Farrow proved to be the most popular racer among locals in attendance. Greg ran a time of 9.69 and was a bit disappointed. "I expected to get close to 8.90 but I think it is running as fast as possible at the moment. It looks like we will need to spend more money on it before the Nationals in March." Greg aims to win at the Nationals but said he has a lot of work to do between now and then. "Taking on Australia's best in this sport is never easy. It costs a lot of time and money." Greg said the car has been a new project which he has shared with co-driver and fellow mechanic Claude Cecchini. Greg also hopes to race his Modified Bike at the Nationals. "Racing the bike as well would give our team a double chance," he said. An Enormous number of local drag racing fans are expected to flock to the Nationals. |
