Characters |
The following is a list of characters that are being planned for
the first and second episodes or are still in the idea stage. See the
shooting schedule for what is coming up this
week, or the episode guide for what is
scheduled at the moment to be in the next episode.
Read through them, and if you are interested in participating in any of
them, sign up with the appropriate form.
Note that all names are subject to change, and may
possible change gender as well!
Neal, the really lazy guy
I want to be this character!
Warren, the compulsive liar
This is a running gag, where the interviewer tries to come up with
a question that Warren isn't qualified to answer. "This week's question is
for all first year students" and of course, there's Warren, who comes up
with some story how he's actually a first year student. "Here at this
university, there are far more girls than guys. Let's see how the girls
feel about that," and there's Warren. "Uh, you're not a girl. We need to
talk to a girl." "Yes I am," he'd reply, and would invent some story to
convince us. Maybe he likes lying. Maybe he just likes being on TV. Probably
both.
I want to be this character!
Darryl, the guy with no friends
I want to be this character!
(unnamed), the overtly friendly guy

Jimmy Crane played by Mark Cappis
Jimmy Crane is the slightly unusual though always entertaining host of the
show, who every week opens and closes each episode, as well as hosting his
segment on how to pick up babes. Jimmy may also guest-star in famous
movies and television programs through the miracle of cheap special
effects.
Neal is really lazy, which isn't uncommon, except that he is in a position
of authority. This makes Neal extremely frustrating to those around him who
need his services on something. Neal could possible be the producer of the
show, and is in charge of getting things done. Throughout the series, we
will get to witness Neal's extreme apathy, which is made worse by his good
intentions, his promises to get things done. Neal could be used as the
reason the show is as low-budget as it is, and any lack of improvement
could be blamed on him. Neal could promise things and then cover his
inaction with lies. But he's not evil, just good-intentioned and lazy. A
complete procrastinator.

Warren is a compulsive liar, and will be the perpetual respondent in the
Weekly Poll (hosted by the same reporter), where week after week the
interviewer says "Okay, let's see
if we can find someone who'd like to talk to us" as lo and behold, there's
Warren, every time, though he had his back to the camera doing something
else, or pretended to be doing something else, or just happened to be
walking by.

I got this idea watching an episode of the Weird Al Show last night. I
don't remember what made me think of it, I think it was the episode where
he was taking all of those Know-It-All Correspondence courses to be smarter
so that he'll impress his friends or something. We could do a character who
has no friends, and who comes up with a different scheme each week to get
friends. I think this is something that us "swingin' bachelors" could
identify with in the girlfriend department, and Darryl could do the same
for a girlfriend, like try to break a world record to impress people (as in
the Weird Al Show) or try to win a student election to gain the illusion of
being "popular". He could always be up to something. I think there's
potential there.

(unnamed)'s only problem is he's just too darn friendly. In any situation,
he'll just start making small talk with the person next to him and offer
a hug. You know, (unnamed) could be in an elevator, a person walks in, and
(unnamed) starts making small talk with that person, and the person starts
getting visibly annoyed. (unnamed) then gives that person a hug, resulting
in (unnamed) getting slugged. Or, a person could be at a urinal, and (unnamed)
will walk in, go to the urinal right next to that person, and start making
small talk. (unnamed) will say to the person at the next urinal "Hello!
How's it going? What ya doin'?" Stuff like that.

In a freak accident (involving lightning or a two-by-four or whatever),
Average Joe is hospitalized with head injuries. As he wakes up in his
hospital bed, he sees the doctor standing nearby explaining what is wrong
to Average Joe's friends, who are nodding as if they understand, and
suddenly Average Joe blurts out "Keep nodding you morons, like you have
any idea what he's saying!" Average Joe is surprised to have said that, and
the doctor reveals that Joe has effectively lost his mental filter. From
now on Average Joe is someone who speaks his mind, probably loudly, because
there is no longer any distinction between thought and speech.
