Mom & Dad

This love story started more than thirty-five years ago,
When she met him she knew he'd be more than her beau,
He thought her pretty but he would have to wait,
For he knew he could not date her for she was "jail bait".

Then the day came when he asked her out,
She was so happy she thought she would shout,
On the third date he said be my wife,
And this was the start of their new life.

The wedding date set and the dress bought,
And the day itself was 100 degrees hot,
St. Marys was the church in which they were wedded,
And she had to poke him for he became light headed.

No time to go on a long honeymoon,
At Clappison's Corners they had to be out by noon,
Three days later it was out west he went,
For this is where the Army thought he should be sent.

She went to Calgary a brand new wife,
And this was where they began their new life,
Their life was not easy for times were rough,
But their love for each other helped them through the rough stuff.

Two children they had a girl and a boy,
Two little redheads that gave them much joy,
They were not little for long, for they grew up fast,
And they have beautiful memories that will always last.

Lorna is grown with two children of her own,
And it is Nana and Papa they like to phone,
Matthew was the first grandchild to be born,
Full of vibrant energy, he makes you tired and worn.

Next there was Danielle so tiny and small,
She was born just as the season was turning to fall,
She loves to dance, sing and talk, talk, talk,
She also enjoys those hikes and long walks.

Then Clifford got married one November day,
And his son Kyle was born in the month of May,
A little redhead he is just like his father,
Hopefully soon he will have a sister or brother.

They've given their children much love through the years,
They have always been there to wipe away tears,
Their love for their family has never been so clear,
And their love for their grandchildren is precious and dear.

From the Army to a gas station he was always on the go,
From no work to Sealtest and finally Dofasco,
He has always worked hard to supply us with things,
Such as food, a home, and all our clothing.

Our father is a very special man,
And he helps us out whenever he can,
We love him more than words can say,
And the love he has given us is with us each day.

Our mother is also very special to us,
She is the best mother that there ever was,
She was always there to help whenever she could,
She taught us well and that was good.

She made a comment a while ago,
And we want you both to know,
You are the best parents a kid could have had,
And we just want to say "we love you mom and dad".

You have shown that "to death do us part",
Can really happen you knew it from the start,
Marriages have their storms just like the weather,
For thirty-five years is a long time together.

This poem may have been written by me,
But if you look around you will see,
The faces of those who you share your love with,
And we wish you many more years of wedded bliss.
