The Man No One Sees
I saw the old man ,no one sees
At his usual place and time
A haggard face
And turned-down eyes
Silent as a Mime
I often saw him
Picking cans
And taking carts back home
In dead of winter
Or pouring rain
The lonely town he'd roam
I never saw him
Smile at all
I never saw him clean
I wondered if he
Had a friend
Or was he just too mean
And so, I gathered
All the cans
My son had saved for toys
And all the things
That soon are lost
By favored little boys
And drove into
The town I knew
To a man that no one sees
And when I set
The bags of cans
Beside his usual place
I saw a look
I'd never seen
A smile crossed his old face
And now I pass
That same old man
The man that no one sees
And eyes that
I had never seen
Look up and smile at me
