Welcome PC Lovers !!

Beware! There is a new, nasty version of "Sub Seven" out, and it can make it even easier than ever to take control of your PC!!  Usually, the hackers prey upon faster servers, but anyone who goes online can be targeted. You can read more about it here
            SUB SEVEN!
But enough of the gloomy lets try for some better news.

Our last meeting

Does anyone remember the last meeting? I think Doug(aka "Fearless Leader") may be streached a little too thin right now, but I haven't heard so I really don't know. Charlie Twomey sent me an e-mail telling me that he showed up last Wed, and waited around a bit, but there was no sign of anyone. I hope all is well at  ABP Computer Services, and I will try to find out more in the near future.

I have been using my "right click" option a lot more lately, have you tried it?
When surfing, right click on a link and then select "open in a new window". It will allow you to check out a link without losing the site you are on, and having to wait for the original site to "reload" when you use the "back" button on your web browswer. All you do is close the new window, and you're back where you were! Try it with one of the links on this page, and you'll see how well it can work.
One of the members advised me that there was a virus attached to one of my recent e mails!! I checked and found a worm virus in my PC that I never even knew about! I was able to remove it, but this is just one more reason that you should check your system regularly with an anti-virus program that is up-to date. Last month's newsletter had a link to one I have used with great success.

Whats new !
There is a new compression format for pictures that is supposed to be better than "jpeg".
I'm not all that "hip" on this sort of technology, but here's an article about it for those who might be interested!
    WAVELET IMAGES
I have been getting a daily e-mail from a site called
      EMAZING.COM
and I have to admit it has been a welcome addition to my mail.
I don't remember signing up for the site, but I look forward to their daily "Internet tip  of the Day". If you have time, I highly recommend surfing this site, and signing up for the service.

I missed changing the website over for St Patrick's Day, and I hope I haven't disappointed any of you members who were looking forward to green beer and corned beef and cabbage jpegs and gifs!  I'll have a new look for spring up in a couple days, so check back!

The recent downturn on the  stock market is bad news if you had a lot of capital  invested, but it could be good news if you are ready to upgrade your PC. Many tech companies are scrambling for revenue, and I'll bet you'll pickup a bargain if  you look around. Compaq  is one of the companies that has been talking about "resizing" and I'd be shocked if you couldn't get one of their "older technologies" PC (not the newest version, one 3 months old) for a much better price very soon. Check out sites like
          MYSIMON.COM
for all the best deals. Happy hunting!
