Fool

Fool

The Bumbler He'd only turned around after regaling the older couple with a humorous tale when he spotted her. Crossing the room in a controlled, yet visibly peeved fashion, his wide grin dropped instantly. "Jerry Jacks!" she hissed as he took a nervous step back.

"Wait! Wait, wait!" he urged, holding his hand up to stop her barrelling into him. "Get your hand down!" she snapped, swatting it. "Why do I feel like I have to chase you down? Your disapearing act is wearing very thin." Placing a hand on her hip, she fixed a tight expression on him, waiting for his response.

"Sweetheart," Jerry started, his gaze darting around the room. This was going to be ugly and he was going to be right in the thick of it. "You don't call, you don't write," she interrupted. "I was beginning to think you didn't actually mean it when you proposed last weekend." Letting out a hollow laugh, she took a step closer towards him. "Where have you been?"

"With me." Sabrina and Jerry turned to the sudden 3rd party to their conversation. Chloe Morgan slipped her arm through Jerry's, tugging him towards her possessively. Jerry paled, groaning inwardly. "Who are you?" Sabrina demanded coolly. Chloe smiled dismissively. "His wife, and you?"

The anger, so vibrant a second earlier, drained from Sabrina's countenance. The deep hurt that struck her could not be hidden, no matter how hard she tried. "I'm the fool," she uttered calmly, her eyes still on the man who'd unlocked her heart like no other. "And I'm leaving."
