Hope's Destiny
Chapter 2
The villagers of Serios cowered before Ares, no one talking
except for a few mothers comforting their children, the
people huddled together in one mass group, thinking maybe
sticking together could do them some good.
Ares kneeled before the fire once again "Dahak, how would
you like me to steal the lives of these imputent mortals?"
In response, the fire of dahak burned higher and brighter
as it made the usual grumble sound.
"my pleasure" Ares responded, he was to sli the throats of
each one personally, a task Hope had been unable to carry out.
Xena and Gabrielle had eaten in silence after their convesation
about the true nature of Hope, Gabrielle was still unsure and
Xena just didn't want to bring those memories back.
"Gimme ALE!" a man said at the bar, the rough voice caught
the attention of Xena and Gabrielle and they turned to see the man.
He looked worn down and worried.
"hey, what's the problem?" Xena inquired.
"My wife and son, taken by Ares, today in Serios, i was in Athens
to get some sumac for the oil, when I returned I found the village in
ruins"
"What would Ares want with poor villagers?" asked Gabrielle, now alert of
the situation.
"sacirifices" is all the man said as he greedily guzzled down the drink.
"Xena, what would Ares wnat with these people?" said Gabrielle
"I don't know, but I'm gonna find out!, let's go"
Xena and Gabrielle left the tavern, leaving the shaken man behind.
In silence they rode toward Ares temple, at a normal and medium
pace, not aware of what was happening at that very moment, to innocent
civilians....
Ares tied all the people in a long line going around the temple in a
circle. One to the next he went around spilling blood, cutting
throats and with each death, giving Hope more power for when she had
enough to enter the world. It didn't take Ares long to finish off each
and every one, and Hope would soon be back.
Xena and Gabrielle entered the empty and silent temple of
Ares, unaware they had chosen the wrong temple to visit,
this was just the closest one to them.
"ARES! show yourself!" Xena yelled, smashing temple objects,
usually the best way to bring Ares forth.
Ares appeared before Xena.
"ahh..Xena, you missed the party"
"what party, what did you do with those people ARES?!"
"whoa..calm down Xena, oh..hi Gabrielle, I know your
first grandchild wasnt what you expected, but this one
will be much different, I guarantee it"
Gabrielle looked at Xena then back at Ares and said
"what are you on about Ares, Hope is dead!"
"not anymore". A grin formed on Ares face as he broke out
in maniacal laughter and disappeared.
"Xena..."
