How long does the job usually take and what are the costs?
A two-hour window is allowed for the diagnostic and service time on cars which are hard to start, run roughly, lack power and have high fuel consumption problems. To qualify for our standard £59 service charge, such cars must be capable of starting and running when we arrive. Cars that cannot be started and run generate higher charges. This is because until the engine is running, many faults can remain undetected. A reasonable charge is made for the extra time required.
Do you keep parts in stock with you?
Minor service parts for engine tuning are carried on the service vehicle. We carry sufficient stock to service and repair most popular models. Additional work can be carried out with a further appointment.
Do you provide a full report on the work?
A fully documented test report is written for each job. Our service engineer is able to show customers the cause of the problem(s) and discuss it(them) with the customer. Sometimes, with a little help, customers are able to understand the technical problems that appeared to be such a mystery.
My car is getting on a bit in years - is it worth getting it fixed?
Modern electronically managed cars are sometimes sold or scrapped due to "beyond economic repair" problems. Identification of the corroded or open circuit connections might have prevented this. In a very few cases however, the service engineer may recommend that you get rid of the vehicle. The point about tuning is that it's a process that's designed to get the best out of what is already under the bonnet.
Do I have to be present while my car is being tuned?
Only if you want to be there. We visit homes, farms, factories, office car parks - anywhere that the owner has permission for such work to be carried out. Being a mobile service, you avoid the problem of having to leave your car for it to be worked on and having to find an alternative way of getting to work or another destination.

Motor Doc is not a five-minute breakdown service. Allowing for travelling time, work time, spares sourcing time, and guarantee time we cannot complete more than two appointments a day in winter and three in summer. We try as much as possible to quote a specific time for your appointment, but each job is very different and sometimes we may be delayed. In the event of a potentially long delay we will attempt to contact you by telephone.
Is your work guaranteed?
Our standard guarantee covers labour for a period of one month or 1,000 miles from the date of service. Parts fitted are covered by the manufacturer/re-manufacturer guarantee (except second-hand and customer-sourced parts). We have no magic wands. If your car continues to give you problems, we will return and look at the problems again. We have over twenty-five years of successful operation, and over ten thousand satisfied customers to prove the soundness of our operation.
