CROW CALLS No. 7
The Star Water The Star Water is the power of the Great Spirit that fills the Universe. In ancient times, the Star Water was available to human beings, but when men stopped following the way of the Great Spirit, they lost the ability to make use of this great power. Those who follow the Medicine Path must learn how to use this Star Water once again.The Four Stars are separated here so man can learn from them. But these Four Stars are actually only One. The Northern Star upon the shield is the Star of the Woman of the North. The Southern Star is the Sister of the woman of the South, the Gift Sister. The Eastern Star is the Golden Haired Elk Woman. And the Star of the West is the Black Haired Buffalo Woman. These are the Four Daughters of the Mother Earth, created to help man to reclaim the Fallen Star Water.
The Woman of the North covers the Earth with her Colors of Winter. She freezes everything. This is the Coldness of Heart. The great rivers are frozen and man cannot see the Water. The Woman of the North is very beautiful. She makes all the Colors dance within her ice crystals. She is Wisdom. But if men seek just the Wisdom of the North without also seeking her dancing Colors and her Forever Green, her innocence, they may visit her, but they will not share intercourse with her. Men must find the South within the Sister of the North to Become Full. The South is time for the Water to Run Freely. The whole world becomes Green. It is the time of Innocence and Trust. This is the Time of the Give-Away. If man Gives in Truth, man then has intercourse with the Woman of the South. These things are to be found in man.
If a man loves the Woman of the South, he is loved by the Woman of the East. This Golden Haired Woman is eager to know her Sister's love of the South. What one feels the other knows. It is a mutual thing. For when men have intercourse with the Golden One of the East, the Sister of the South, too, knows the Gift. The Colors of the East are dancing bright in their many Colors and Beauty. These things are to be found in man. The Woman of the West is Sister to the Woman of the North. She spreads her Colors and unites them in her evening sky. When a man has intercourse with the Woman of the West, it is shared by the Woman of the North. When men have intercourse with the Woman of the North, it is felt by the Woman of the West. The Woman of the West touches the night. The Woman of the East touches the day. The Woman of the South touches the things of feeling and heart. The Woman of the North touches the things of wisdom.
In the Time of the Many Colors of Earth, these all come together and the Sisters sit in a common lodge. And the Earth dances with these Colors. It is a time when things are Equal, Hot and Cold, Light and Darkness. It is what men must strive for. They must seek to live within this lodge with these Four Women; they must find each Sister in the others to become Full. This lodge is the Great Painted Lodge. These Women, your Wives, will feed you in this Lodge and they will Paint you, and teach you of the Painting.
There are four aspects of the Beginning Work:
1. Become physically strong through the environment;
2. Balance maleness and femaleness within;
3. Make an act of beauty or power in the world, to create a mirror for yourself so you can know who you are;
4. Be lifted out of the everyday existence long enough to restructure your beliefs, with the aid of dreaming and psychic events.
Recovering the Fallen Star Water The Star Water was given to man to give him life. The amount of Star Water we each have increases as we grow up, then begins to decrease through the rest of our life. In the end, we don't have enough Star Water left to sustain life and we die. However, the Medicine has given us a way to preserve our Star Water, and to increase it so that it transforms us, giving us more Medicine Power.
(after Carlos Castaneda & Mantak Chia)Meditation and breathing exercises are necessary to carry out the recovery of the Fallen Star Water, and one should retreat from the everyday world, or at least minimize worldly concerns, while carrying out the operation for best results. Depending on your preparation, the Work can take from a few months to several years.
We can reverse the flow of the Star Water energy out of us by drawing it up the spine to the head, then down to the navel, completing a circuit called the circulation of the light. Once the circulation of the energy is established, the energy is then guided to the center of the body, where it is progressively refined and transformed in three centers. These are located below the navel, in the solar plexus & heart, and in the head. There are three types of Star Water energy in man. There is the sexual energy, centered in the genitals, the energy of the will (or life-force), centered in the solar plexus, and spiritual energy, centered in the head. The sexual energy is transformed into life-force, which is in turn transformed into spiritual energy. The purpose of this Work is to recover the Fallen Star Water.
The three centers are places where energy is stored and transformed. The sexual energy is raised to the solar plexus, where it is circulated between the fire center (heart) and the water center (solar plexus) until it is purified. The Star Water is then raised to the head, where it becomes Medicine Power. These circulations are accomplished through breathing and meditation on circulating the Star Water. Then the Star Water is circulated until the Spirit manifests. This is sent to the solar plexus to be fixed and stabilized, causing the formation of the immortal Spirit body. This is the conjunction of the Sun and the Moon. New Star Water begins to be produced in the back of the head to nourish the Spirit body.
To begin, you must first recover Star Water energy that you have lent to others by thinking or feeling about them. Humans exchange Star Water energy all the time, and these exchanges creates many lines of energy that bind us to this world and prevent our Spirit from gaining its freedom. This energy is recovered in the following way. First, make of a list of the persons with whom you believe you have energy connections. This list should include everyone you have ever known, especially those to whom you have any lingering emotional bonds, whether good or bad. Since our memories are not usually very good concerning events and persons from our distant past, this stage is often repeated many times, as we remember more and more. When you are ready, sit quietly and comfortably and begin by taking the first person on your list and remember the emotions you have for the person. While doing this, start with your head turned all the way to the right, and inhale as you turn your head all the way to the left. At the same time, visualize the energy of the emotions you left in the person being pulled back into your spirit. Then, when your head has reached the left shoulder, exhale as you turn your head back to looking straight ahead as you visualize all the emotional energy in you about the person being expelled from your aura. Repeat this process for each person on your list.
Second, the Star Water energy we have stored in our spirit over time must be stirred up and re-absorbed. This will result in feeling more youthful and energetic, as well as making our Medicine stronger and bringing more spiritual knowledge through dreams and visions. First, at dawn and at dusk (otherwise, only between midnight and noon), one must sit and breath deeply and evenly until the breath comes freely and quietly through both nostrils. With each incoming breath, Star Water energy also enters. This energy is directed throughout the body. Then one must engage in vigorous physical exercise of some type for several minutes to help the Star Water energy flow throughout the body. Circulate the Star Water periodically, until you feel the energy rise on its own. This is the real birth of the immortal Spirit body. When this occurs, you will feel like you are walking on clouds. This completion of the recovery of the Fallen Star Water is unmistakable when it occurs, and you will feel positively giddy for at least a few days.
Before beginning the recovery of the Fallen Star Water, one should increase one's energy by sublimating the sexual force. The sexual energy leaks away during life, especially in men, and it must be preserved to recover the Fallen Star Water successfully. For this reason, men must pay special attention to conserving their sexual energy. When it is circulated, the sexual energy will increase in volume. Men are often deficient in sexual energy for purposes of the Work, while women always have plenty. Therefore, it is common for the Medicine Man to work with a Medicine Woman or a willing female partner, so that the man can absorb extra sexual energy from his female partner. The man strengthens his energy by taking the energy of the woman from her breasts and the saliva under her tongue. The most powerful essences are liberated during orgasm, when the exchange of energy produces good health and longevity if a technique is employed to sublimate the sexual energy. These exercises should be performed after midnight and before noon, because the daily cycle of testosterone production in the body begins around midnight and ends by noon.
First, the man and woman engage in foreplay to attain arousal of the sexual energy. Then they each circulate the energy up the spine to the head and down into the mouth, increasing the amount of saliva by rotating the tongue in the mouth first one way then the other. The man now swallows the woman's saliva, drawing the energy down into the navel, while pressing a spot on the woman's right breast about an inch above the nipple. This releases extra sexual energy that women store in their breasts. The man then visualizes energy in the navel. In between meditations, the couple should continue to engage in sexual foreplay. When erection occurs, the man grips the root of his penis to prevent the loss of seed and exhales deeply through his mouth while grinding his teeth. This will cause the sexual energy to sublimate. It will move around in the abdomen, and the man pulls up on the perineum to send the energy up the spine to the brain. Here, the sun and moon unite. Bring the energy down into the mouth and create extra saliva by rotating the tongue. Swallow the saliva, and bring the energy down to be stored below the navel.
One sign that you are making progress in the recovery of the Fallen Star Water is an excess of gas that is released as farting. This does not mean that farting is always a sign of spiritual progress. It is true, however, that as you begin to store power (energy), this extra energy often gives rise to more gas in the intestines. In fact, this is so common in those who are recovering the Fallen Star Water that a technique to relieve this type of excess gas was developed. One should place the middle finger of each hand in the center of the palm of the opposite hand and breathe deeply for several minutes. This serves to redistribute the extra energy you have more evenly throughout your system, which will reduce the production of excess gas.
Another sign of progress is a ringing in the ears that persists sporadically over time. This is caused by the Medicine Man becoming sensitive to or aware of receiving energy from another source. This source is usually someone else who is thinking about you or someone to whom you have a strong energy connection who is very upset and consequently putting out more energy than usual. As such, the ringing in the ears serves as an early warning that something is happening that is affecting the recipient. This lets you know that a loved one is upset, or that someone is praying for you or possibly working Medicine against you or just cursing your name or the ground you walk on. Over time, it is possible to distinguish subtle differences in the ringing that let you determine whether the energy you are receiving refers to something good or bad. The ringing can also be triggered by your participation in a powerful meditation or ritual, and can therefore guide you to determine the level of effectiveness of work you have done. This condition arises spontaneously after the Star Water energy rises up the spine as a result of the regular repetition of meditation or ritual.
The first thing one must accomplish is the movement of Star Water energy within the body. This movement is controlled by visualization and breathing, particularly abdominal breathing. Abdominal breathing should be done without strain, expanding the abdomen as you breathe in. You should start each meditation on moving energy with nine abdominal breaths. This breathing lights the inner fire, particularly when you do it quickly. Breathing must be augmented by pulling up on the perineum and sphincter muscle to raise the energy up the spine. Raising the energy up the spine instead of letting it flow outward is called the backward flowing movement, and this practice will gather energy in the place of the Heavenly Heart, located between the eyes. When the Heavenly Heart becomes full of energy, one may experience a sparkling light when the eyes are closed, reminiscent of seeing stars.
The basic circulation of the energy starts by placing one's attention down below. In men, this is the testicles, while in women, it is the ovaries (about three inches below the navel). Some Medicine Women state that women should start this work with their attention between the breasts. This attention and some abdominal breaths will act to stir up the sexual energy. Then, one must guide the energy down to the perineum with an accompanying inhalation. The energy is then guided by visualization up the spine to the head, inhaling and pulling up on the perineum. One should pull in the chin as the energy passes the neck and enters the brain. This process is repeated nine times, building up energy in the brain. Any time that you feel that the energy is not moving well, stop and do some abdominal breaths. Also, the energy channels are often blocked and need to be cleaned out by repeatedly moving the energy back and forth along sections of the energy channels. Smoking especially will make the channels dirty and blocked. It is not uncommon for the Medicine man to dream that he is cleaning something at this point, indicating that he is working on cleaning his energy channels. When this simple thing is overlooked, it can result in a lot of work with little or no results.
Once the energy is built up in the brain, move it back and forth between the crown of the head and the eyebrows to establish the Medicine Lodge in the head. Then move the energy down to the roof of the mouth. This point is called the Heavenly Pool. At this point, one encounters a break in the circuit of the energy, which must be closed by lifting the bottom of the tongue to the roof of the mouth, just behind the teeth. Now inhale and bring the energy down the front of the body. This energy is now stored in the Ocean of Breath. This basic circulation should be repeated regularly until it feels easy and effective. Constant circulation of the Light begins to crystallize the Spirit Body. Once you have stored energy in the Ocean of Breath, start all of your subsequent circulations by pulling the energy from the Ocean of Breath down to the perineum and then up the spine. Repeatedly circulate the energy up the back and down the front to clean the psychic channels and shut off the inner dialogue. This loosens the focus of consciousness, allowing it to move. Some Medicine Men believe that if you just circulate the Light long enough, the Light will crystallize itself and form the Spirit Body beyond the three heavens. However, the Light is easy to move but difficult to fix, and this is accomplished through the next stage of the Work.
When you are adept at the above practices, you are ready for more advanced Work. This is called the Work of the Water Wheel. This Wheel is located in the testicles. This Wheel is turned to help transform the sexual energy into a higher type of energy. The turning of the Water Wheel is controlled by the eyes, using sight spin. Sight spin is practiced by spinning the eyes front to back. The main use of this practice is to loosen the bonds of energy that trap conscious. Once you start sight spin, let your spinning eyes siphon the energy of your spirit into your eyes and direct it down the middle energy channel to the testicles.
Spin the eyes and push the energy down to the Water Wheel, causing it to turn. The turning Water Wheel will raise the sexual energy up the middle energy channel to the Ocean of Breath, where it is stored. Keep raising the energy over and over, until you feel the Ocean of Breath is saturated. Then, continue turning the Water Wheel and raise the sexual energy in the testicles up to the solar plexus through the middle energy channel, repeating this until the solar plexus feels saturated. After this, continue turning the Water Wheel with your sight spin, and raise the energy up the spine to the head. Each of the three circulations should be repeated at least nine times. Then, the energy from the Ocean of Breath and solar plexus must be raised and mixed in the brain. This is repeated until the energies in the brain begin to expand and overflow. Then bring the energy back down to the Ocean of Breath and store it there. Never leave the energy in the brain. This distillation of the energy starts the transformation of the energy into the Universal Star Water. Repeat this Work daily for several weeks before moving on to the next phase.
The next part of the Water Wheel Work is the circulation of the Spirit Body. Draw the Spirit Body from its storage spot in the Ocean of Breath down into the testicles. Use your sight spin to turn the Water Wheel and visualize the Spirit Body forming in the testicles. Circulate the Spirit Body up to the Ocean of Breath and then back to the testicles. Repeat this several times. Then circulate the Spirit Body up to the solar plexus and back to the testicles. Repeat this circulation several times. Then circulate the Spirit Body up to the heart and back to the testicles. Repeat this several times. Finally, circulate the Spirit Body up to the brain. Do a full circulation, bringing the Spirit Body back down to store it in the Ocean of Breath.
Once you feel that the Spirit Body has been fully formed, you can begin practicing projecting it out the crown of your head. Then it serves various functions, such as absorbing energies, protecting the luminous body and forming the body of light. To project the Spirit Body overhead, create the Spirit Body and circulate it several times up the spine and down the front. Then raise it to the head while inhaling, then exhale and shoot it out of the crown up over your head, where it will hang suspended. This is called returning to nothingness, and you must practice sensing (seeing) a form in nothingness, the form or prototype of the original human being. Practice controlling the Spirit Body over your head, then draw it back into your crown and bring it back to the Ocean of Breath. This is the completion of the basic Work.
Now, you are ready to complete the Body of Light, by which you will become immortal. This process is known as the rotation of the elements, and it also brings health and rejuvenation to the physical body. The secret of this practice is the reversal of the fire and water energies. Normally, the fire energies reside in the heart and the water energies reside in the kidneys. These must be inverted so that the fire is beneath the water. These energies are placed in a hermetic vessel and then the fire cooks the water. If the vessel is not sufficiently sealed, the water will dissipate or dampen the fire. If the water dissipates, the fire beneath will cause must distress, as will the dampening of the fire by the Water. Keeping the vessel sealed is the most important part of this process.
Bring the Fire energy from the heart down the front energy channel past the Ocean of Breath to the perineum, then up the middle energy channel to the Ocean of Breath. Simultaneously, bring the Water energy from the kidneys up the rear energy channel past the Ocean of Breath to a spot opposite the solar plexus on the spine, then down the middle energy channel to the Ocean of Breath. The fire and water energies should meet at the Ocean of Breath, with the fire on the bottom and the water on top. Visualize the energies as a male-female matrix within a sphere, with a hardened skin forming around them. This must be kept sealed. Do nine rapid abdominal breaths to heat the energy and feel the energy turning to steam and rising up the middle energy channel to the crown. At the crown, the energy will be transformed and create more Universal Star Water in the center at the back of the head. This Star Water will then drip down to rejuvenate the physical body. When this energy reaches the perineum, it should be raised up the spine and circulated, and finally stored in the Ocean of Breath.
After the first steaming has been practiced several times, repeat the process with a second steaming using the solar plexus instead of the Ocean of Breath. Here the water energy is raised up the spine to the level of the heart and then brought down the middle channel to the solar plexus. Add extra energy to the second steaming from the spirit and the organs into the solar plexus. This will greatly increase the amount of energy that you have available to steam. When the energy rises to the crown, feel the crown opening so that the energy flows out of the crown into the luminous body. This will have a transforming effect on the luminous body, creating the Body of Light. This process must be repeated many times to solidify and stabilize the Body of Light. This energizing of the energy body is an important step in the Work, and Medicine Men often accomplish it through prolonged meditations and rituals, which build up extra energy in the aura. After the Body of Light is created, you need to practice traveling in it to the various worlds. Always return to the physical body afterwards so that you don't get led astray from your goal of entering Eternity.
The two forces within, the intellect or spiritual consciousness and the emotions or earthly consciousness, are represented in many systems of attainment. Normally, these two forces are out of balance, in perpetual motion while trying to transform each other. The act of balancing these forces allows the consciousness of the soul to rise from the root (genitals) to the crown of the head, where it can unite with the Spirit.
When the energy rises up the spine, it passes through centers of power, which are also represented in many systems of attainment. In Kundalini Yoga, the centers are called the seven chakras (wheels). In the Jewish Kaballah, they are the spheres of the Tree of Life below the Abyss. Christians and many others speak of the seven heavens, and Native Americans speak of the seven stepping stones into the inner silence of the Spirit. These are all the same thing.
Once you have purified and circulated the internal energy, then you are ready to balance the two forces within and raise the Star Water up the spine. Start by sitting comfortably with the spine straight. Practice alternate breathing through each nostril for about ten minutes. Press the arms under the armpits, left to right, and after some ten minutes, both nostrils should be free. It has been rightly said that consciousness is controlled by our breathing. Deep, even breathing through both nostrils will help to bring the two forces within into balance. Then, the serpent energy will rise, compelling the balance of the two forces. If you find your breathing is noisy, repeat the alternate breathing and arms under the armpits until your breathing is quiet.
Prepare by drinking a cupful of tea for meditation: mix equal amounts of valerian root and blood root. Put a teaspoon in a cup and add boiling water. Let it steep for about five minutes, then strain it. Add a teaspoon of honey and drink before meditating on the psychic centers. The valerian has a sedative effect, calming the physical body and easing one into a light trance; the blood root is a toxin which stimulates the Star Water energy of the root center into increased activity.
Sit upright and relax. Concentrate on your spine. Inhale and feel the breath fill the spine from bottom (root) to top (near the brow). When you reach the top of the spine, feel the energy filling the brain. Then, the energy will slide back down the spine to the root. Then inhale again and raise the energy back up the spine. Repeat this nine times. The fold your tongue and press its underside against the roof of the mouth. Clean out the front energy channel by inhaling from the solar plexus to the throat and exhaling from the throat to the root. Repeat this nine times.
Listen to the breath, and you will find that inhalations sound different from exhalations. Listen to the rhythm of your breathing, in and then out. After a while, reverse your attention, and listen to your breathing out and then in, until you find yourself breathing first out and then in. This reversal of your attention on your breathing should occur without a pause. Practice this first until you can do it easily. Begin listening to your breathing, and then reverse it from in-out to out-in. With your inhalation, direct the energy at the base of your spine to rise up the spine to the crown through each of the centers. When your inhalation and the energy have reached your crown, start exhaling and bring the energy back down the spine. Make the changeover between inhalation and exhalation as smoothly as you can; the trick is to bridge the gaps between the two to make a continuous circulation.
When you have accomplished the continuous circulation in the spine, you will experience a withdrawal of the senses from the outside world. Prior to reaching this point, you should have devised for yourself a picture or symbol that represents your understanding of the spiritual universe. Now, you should bring this symbol to mind, visualize it on your brow and meditate on it. If the withdrawal of your senses is sufficient, this meditation will open a door for you and you will enter the Medicine Lodge of the Spirit. This should be an entrance at the back of the brain, going downward. You may experience many visions of enlightenment and many types of ecstasy. Beneath them are the primal gods and goddesses of the Abyss. All should be rejected as insufficient until you reach the center of the maze, where you will find the original prototype of the human spirit. This experience will transform the darkness in your spirit and redeem your approach to Eternity.
Repeat the Lesser Circulation, using the Spirit Body as the First Matter. Raise the Spirit Body over the head, and then visualize the union of your lower self with your higher self within the Spirit body. The higher self is of the opposite sex to your lower self, and their union will have a sexual nature to it. This union will cause the Spirit body to expand, as your personal energy merges with the energy of the universe. The Star Water energy in the Spirit Body will expand and overflow, dripping down to be absorbed by the body. This energy will begin the transformation of the physical body. Draw the Spirit Body back down into the navel and store the energy there. This exercise needs to be repeated many times in order to provide rejuvenating energies for the physical body. After a period of work, the physical body will transform and the soul will begin to lose its human form, which is necessary to enter Eternity.
