March 12 - Dordrecht, The Netherlands



The Dutch Open Championhips will be held in Dordrecht on sunday 12 March 2000. The tournament, which is organized by Dutch National head coach Shihan Jan Vleesenbeek will take place at Sporthal Wielwijk, Admiraalsplein 65 in Dordrecht.

More than 11 countries are invited. Of which 4 countries have confirmed their participation: Austria, Great Britain, Germany, Denmark . Of course the Netherlands will be represented by its best fighthers. There will be fought in 4 weight categories: light weight, with national top-fighters such as Haitze Idzenga, Leo Goossens, Freddie Haljer, Maurice du Prée and Vincent du Prée. In the middle weight category national champion Remicillio da Silva will strive for the title. In the middle-heavyweight category there will be fought by National toppers such as Richard von Mansfeldt, Barry Stal, Leo Elzakkers, Richard du Prée, Raoul Jessurun and Dominico Monasso.
The Heavy weight category promises a lot of sensation, with the participation of National pride and two time-winner of the Flanders Cup Rudolf Conquet.

There were 55 competitors from Holland, Germany, United Kingdom, Austria and Denmark.

Even though it seems like most of them would be Dutch, only half of the fighters were from Holland. The Dutch fighters just seemed extremely well prepared and strong.

Also, at the summer school it was officially announced that German Florian Ogunade, who won the super heavy weight final at the Dutch Open in March, has been found positive in the drugtest. This makes du Prée kyokushin friend Rudolf Conquet the true Dutch Champion !
