I moved to Montgomery County from Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1975 and attended public school until graduating from Walter Johnson High School. I received my B.A. in Biology from McDaniel college in Westminster MD.
Since then, I have worked in the Information Technology industry for Congressional Quarterly, Newbridge Networks, NCR, the US Postal Service, General Electric Information Services, and the National Institutes of Health.
In 1998 I joined the Montgomery Green Democrats, a chartered club within the Montgomery County Democratic Party focused on improving the environmental awareness of voters and elected officials. I succeeded its president in 2004 and have been re-elected twice since. In 2005, I was appointed precinct chair in precinct 8-10 by the Democratic Central Committee.
I was active in the ballot access rights groups Marylanders for Democracy and Coalition for a Democratic Maryland, holding the position of Treasurer in the Marylanders for Democracy PAC until the organization triumphantly disbanded having passed the ballot access reform bill SB293 which successfully lowered petition requirements for independent and third party candidates.
Having lived in Bethesda, Silver Spring, Gaithersburg, Germantown, and Wheaton, I have finally settled in Olney with Monica Kenney-Jacobs, my wife of 9 years. There, I am a supervisor of our community, the Highlands of Olney, and I serve on the Executive Committee of the Olney Elementary School PTA where my daughters, Bernadette and Vivian, attend.
I am a member of the Sierra Club, Freinds of Sligo Creek, and Democracy for America, a progressive rights group.
I founded the Athens Project, a direct democracy advocacy organization, in June of 2005 and currently serve as its coordinator. I am running for County Council under the Athens Project philosophy and thereby hope to put government power back in the hands of Montgomery's voters; where it has always belonged.
