The light in the fireplace,
Doesn't it seem brighter than before?
And even when the flames die out,
The coals warm you as they glow.
The translucent illumination,
Oh, how it takes your breath away,
Loved ones come and go my dears,
But the memories always stay.
The kids lay, eyes-closed, in their beds,
So warm, so snug, so tight,
Hoping Santa doesn't know,
They're still awake on this holy night.
The density of love hangs in the air,
And yet I am still me,
So I step away from the window,
That sight not meant for something like me to see.
And so while you spend your Christmas,
Happy, jolly, and gay,
Remember ghost girls and boys like me,
Who have no place to stay.
On this beautiful Christmas day,
I roam the earth in pain,
Died a wrongful death,
Suffered in your games.
So party, make joy this holiday time,
Drink your eggnog spiked with beer,
Just remember the little ghosts like me,
Who can't go home this year.
