Middle School Math A
Middle School Mathematics Course A is for students who have completed the kindergarten to Grade 5 mathematics curriculum. Students successful in Middle School Mathematics Course A will go on to either Middle School Mathematics Course B or Investigations into Mathematics the following year. Areas of focus include common and decimal fraction operations.

The units of study include Algebraic Concepts, Common Fractions, Statistics, Decimal Operations, and Geometry and Measurement. All concepts and skills are presented in the context of real-life problem solving that requires the use of reasoning, communication and logic. Students investigate mathematical concepts through a variety of experiences. The revised curriculum aims to prepare as many students as possible for Algebra I by Grade 8.

The indicators are organized into comprehensive topical units accompanied by unit assessments that benchmark student progress as well as their readiness for the next level course. Students continue to be prepared for the Maryland Functional Mathematics Test, first administered in the spring of Grade 7.

Middle School Math B
Middle School Mathematics Course B is for students who have completed the kindergarten to Grade 5 mathematics curriculum as well as the indicators for Middle School Mathematics Course A. Students successful in this pre-Algebra course should be enrolled in Investigations into Mathematics, Math C, or Algebra I the following year.

Areas of focus include functional relationships, geometric relationships, box and whisker plots, histograms and scatter plots, integers, and proportional reasoning. All concepts and skills are presented in the context of real-life problem solving that requires the use of reasoning, communication and logic. Students investigate mathematical concepts through a variety of experiences. The revised curriculum aims to prepare as many students as possible for Algebra I by Grade 8.

Middle School Math C
Middle School Mathematics Course C prepares students to take Algebra I the following year.

Areas of focus include linear functions, rate of change, variation, real numbers, geometric applications, and data analysis. Algebraic concepts introduced in the previous courses will be reinforced and applied in new situations. Additional Algebra I indicators, especially those that are assessed on the Algebra I High School Assessment, will be foreshadowed. All concepts and skills are presented in the context of real-life problem solving that requires the use of reasoning, communication, and logic.
