The Women's Army Corps Service Medal was established in 1943 and recognizes wartime service in
the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps or the Women's Army Corps (renamed September 1, 1943). The expanded
role of women in the Armed Forces was one of the big stories of the Second World War.
