UPON ARRIVAL in Tampa, the whole clan gathered on Weds, 7/4, before going to Devil Rays game.
A GREAT STADIUM and a great place to watch a game. Too bad Suzy, Scottie and the rest of the family had to see the Rays get beat by Toronto. Scottie, however, walked away with two baseballs and Brian with one.
JUST PRIOR to boarding the SS Norway on Miami beach on Sun., 7/8, we explored the Cape Florida state park where this lighthouse was located. Just to the left by the pole was a nest of turtle eggs.
THE DIVE BOAT at the the Grand Cayman, Tues., 7/10, was adequate and the equipment worked fine. An 80 ' dive down the Cayman chute awaited. It was also here that Guy met Les, a retired fellow who must have been a millionaire since he had diving all over the world.
UNFORTUNATELY FOR the girls, their expedition by bus was a total flop. Suzy managed to snuggle with a baby turtle, but "Hell" was not worth the effort. :-)
DIANNE AND SUZY basked along the sundrenched beach at Uvero, Mexico on Weds., 7/11. Of all the tropical spots we visited, this was the most refreshing and spectacular. Note Dianne wearing a bikini for the first time ever.
ON THURS, 7/12, Suzy was undaunted as she posed with two, fierce Mayan warriors at the very "commercial" entrance to the Tullum ruins.
SUZY AND GUY posed with the remnants of the emperor's palace in the background.
DIANNE AND SUZY posed here at the base of the sacrificial temple where humans were butchered by having their hearts torn out and offered to the gods. The remains were stashed in the small outcroppings at the bottom right and left of the building.
THE STRUCTURES shown here in the background are believed to have been primitive lighthouses to guide ancient mariners at night. The Mayans occupied the site at approx. 900 AD, but were conquered 300 years later and eventually disappeared from this site.
DIANNE HAD the best idea of all as she chilled on a hammock at the resort of Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas on Sat., 7/14, the final day of the cruise. The following morning we docked at Miami Beach and made the long and sad drive back to Tampa, where we would fly out two days later. :-(
