Boy Meets Girl
Nick put the last few french fries he had into his mouth before throwing the Burger Kind bag in the trash can. It was a bit early to be eating a whopper, but he didn’t care. He noticed that his shoe laces were undone, so he bent down to tie them. Just as he did this, Rianna walked by and he noticed the same thing that Martín had the night before. Her perfume lingered in the air around him. They made eye contact and she smiled sweetly.
Rianna threw her jacket into the corner and began to stretch. First she reached toward the ceiling, then to her toes. Nick stood behind her tactfully. Knowing he’d get view.
“Alright, I’m filling in for Fatima. Her baby’s sick and she can’t make it here. I’m Rianna and I move quickly, so keep up. I gotta be outta here at 8, so we better get started.” She rubbed her palms together and waited for one of the back-up dancers to turn the music on.
“You say you move fast?” AJ asked, licking his lips. Nick shoved him into Howie. Both Howie and AJ laughed. The music started and Rianna began to dance. They all took visual notes of her steps. All except for Nick who was too busy enjoying her body.
The hours rolled by, and it was a little before 8. Rianna was tired and her skin glistened with tiny beads of sweat. Nick approached her as she was zipping up her bag. He gave her a towel and she thanked him, flashing her famous smile.
“So... where are you going in such a hurry.” Nick questioned, standing rather close to her.
“I teach a dancing class for little girls in the afternoons.” Nick reached for her bag and she handed it to him.
“You are a really good dancer. I should have known you teach it for a living.”
“Actually I do it for fun. My sister, my brother, and I run my father’s dance club for a living.” Everyone had already left and they were the last to walk out.
“Can I come and watch you teach? Maybe keep you company afterward?” Rianna smiled. She switched the lights off and turned to Nick.
“No, I don’t think so.” Nick’s ego fell to the ground shattered as she proceeded down the hall to the front door.
“Come on, I just wanna get to know you better. What’s wrong with that?” Nick continued to pursue the girl. Rianna stopped again and turned.
“Maybe some other time. Ok? I just don’t have room for a guy in my life right now.” Which was a lie. She was just afraid to try dating again.
“Well let me have your number. I’ll call you sometime, maybe we can go see a movie. You know, become friends. You do have room for a friend, right?” Rianna complied and wrote her number quickly on his hand.
“Thanks pretty girl. I’ll talk to you later.” She rolled her eyes playfully and started her car. Nick backed away then headed toward his truck with a huge grin on his face. Rianna pulled away with the same grin. Nick was very attractive and she was flattered by his interest.
