Mesmerized
Nick was tired, and his back hurt from sitting at his computer all night. He was fooling around on the internet, chatting with girls who would die if they knew who they were really talking too.
The time difference left him restless. He glanced over at Brian who was sleeping deeply, mouth hanging open, and wondered how the guys could sleep so soundly.
Next stop would be New Orleans. And after the concert, the guys would get a week off to enjoy Mardi Gras. Nick was overly excited about the whole idea, being that he was now old enough to go club hopping and kick back a few beers with his friends. Just the thought of how much fun he was going to have relaxed him and he laid back in his bunk to get some rest.
It wasn’t long before Brian was shaking him to wake him up. They had arrived at the hotel and it was time to unload all of their things. Nick took his duffel bag and carry-on along with him, allowing the bell hop to handle all of his other things.
“Ok, Lee and I have one room. Kristen and Kev have their room. Howie, Nick, and AJ... you guys gotta decide who gets their own room. Cause you know this place is booked for Mardi Gras, and they have only two rooms left.” Brian said. Kev was too busy staring into Kristen’s eyes to pay any attention. AJ decided to play Rock-Paper-Scissors to determine who got their own room.
“Rock, paper, scissors, shoot!” AJ threw out the paper symbol which covered Nick’s rock. He turned to Howie and they repeated the process. Howie’s rock broke AJ’s scissors and Howie grabbed the keys to his room. AJ patted Nick’s shoulder and smiled.
“Looks like your my club buddy tonight, Nicky.” Nick smirked knowing how much he loved partying with AJ and really cutting loose. As they both entered the room, AJ jumped on the first bed he saw and adjusted the pillow under his head.
“A whole fucking week in The Big Easy during the horniest festivity of the year. We’ll see nothing but tits, Nick. And I plan to get me a few of those girls too.” AJ said with a huge grin on his face. Nick shook his head and then smiled back, obviously agreeing with AJ’s intentions.
“I got the shower first.” Nick pulled some clothes out of his large suitcase and went into the bathroom.
AJ picked up the phone and called down to Howie, asking if he wanted to go out too. Howie declined, saying he was too exhausted. AJ then called Brian and Kev. Their answer was the same.
By this time, Nick was already out of the shower, drying his hair and putting a bit of gel in it.
“Looks like we’re on our own tonight, dude.” Nick nodded and stepped out of the bathroom, letting AJ in. He walked over to the large window and looked down onto the busy street. Wondering what the night ahead would bring.
~*~*~*~*~*~
The bass in the music made Nick’s heart pound in his chest. He looked around for AJ and spotted him across the room flashing a smile at a group of girls. He took another drink of beer and looked over the crowd. All at once it seemed as though the enormous group of people parted. And there was the most intriguing face he had ever seen. Her eyes seemed to light up and he felt as though he was being pulled toward her. Gray were the color of her eyes. And crimson were the color of her lips. He had to meet her. Or at least come close to her. And so he got up from his seat and approached the young girl.
He kept his eyes on her. Studying her every move. Studying the curves of her body. Taking in her luscious scent as he got nearer. She looked up and their eyes met. Nick felt like he couldn’t move. It was as if everyone twirled in circles around the two. She put her hands on his shoulders and pressed her body close to his. Nick knew she was going to kiss him, he could just feel it in his bones. He closed his eyes, waiting for the kiss of a lifetime.
“What pill did you take to get you looking like that dude? I want some!” AJ said loudly, joking, slapping Nick on the back. Nick’s eyes sprung upen and he looked around for the girl. But it was as if she had vanished.
He felt sick. There was sure to be a line at the bathroom so he rushed outside of the building to vomit. Ironically, all he needed was fresh air. And with that, his stomach settled. When Nick’s mind was clear, he realized that he had come out of the side door and found himself in the alley. There was a sound in the distance and when he looked around to see its origin, there she stood. She turned her back to him and began to walk away.
“Hey! Wait up! What’s your name?” Nick followed her to the end of the alley, then out onto the street. It seemed that no matter how fast Nick chased her, he could not catch up. But she didn’t appear to be running.
He followed her at least three blocks. She finally stopped at a corner, under a street light. Nick stopped as well to catch his breath and get a better look at her. Her hair was long and braided, reaching the small of her back. She wasn’t wearing much make-up, but her face seemed so perfect. Not one blemish. He called out to her again, but she didn’t move.
A black car pulled up to the corner and the girl got in. Just as suddenly as it pulled up, it pulled off. And all Nick could see was the tail lights fading away.
“Fuck!” He looked around and felt foolish for chasing her that way. He probably scared her away. But he couldn’t help it. She was... well... irresistable. He found his way back to the club and managed to get in through the side door he’d walked out of. AJ was still dancing and having fun when Nick found him.
“I’m going back to the hotel. I’ll see you later man.” AJ nodded and continued to have fun with his female company.
Back at the hotel, Nick slid his card through the electronic lock and once the green light flashed, he pushed the door open. The room’s cool temperature felt so comfortable. Nick kicked his boots off and flopped down on the bed. Even though he was slightly exhausted, he couldn’t help but think of the beautiful girl he had encountered. Though he knew the city would be filled with women in the coming week, he still held faith that they’d meet again.
