Valley Forge: Event Instructions and Scoring Sheet
All events are scored as a Den. When individual times/points are recorded, they will later be averaged to determine best Den for each event. Please remember to give Scouts with special needs whatever assistance they require to participate in each event. Take a break or stop for lunch with your boys whenever you like and return to the event stations at a place where there is not a long line. Hot water will be available. It is not necessary to complete the events in numerical order. Return this scoring sheet to Registration (#1) before leaving. If you have any questions during the derby, check with Nick Dunten (in colonial hat).

#4 - BEAR HUNT: Points
Your den was playing around some big rocks and woke up a hibernating bear. The bear is nearly as hungry as you are. To save your ammo for combat in the spring, you'll use the Super Sling Shot Powered Bear Rifle to get this big bear before he gets you. (Each boy gets a warm-up shot and then 5 beanbag bullets. Record each boy's total points: one for each hit, two for hitting the circle, and 5 points for through the hole).

#5 - STAYING WARM: Timed Relay
Valley Forge is a very cold, windy place to be living in the winter. The only way to get warm is to carry in your firewood from the forest, which is across a creek, to the fire pit which is where you sleep, then race back the kitchen tent for hot chocolate.Youll use the log you are carrying to cross the stream. (Timing begins when the log is picked up and ends when the entire team has a hot chocolate cup in hand. You can run several teams, with each team having at least 3 carriers. Record the time for each group.)

#6 - ICE FISHING: Points
Your leader fell through the ice and was rescued. When you pulled him out, he had a big fish in his mouth and another in his pocket. Since there is little to eat, your den decides to do some fishing - but the ice will only hold 5 or fewer cubs for two minutes. Catch as many SNAPPERS as you can for 1 point each. Champion anglers can try for the BIG RED SNAPPER and earn 3 points. The rare and tasty white-spotted FISH STICK is 5 points. (Record points for each cub.)

Here is your chance to run with the big dogs! Webelos and boy scouts are competing all day in sled events ... are you ready to form your own pulling pack? This race is on a straight, level course. (Less than 4 cubs should push or pull the empty sled; 4-8 cubs should have a boy in the sled; and 9 or more should be split into two groups. Record time for each group.)

#8 - FEED THE SEALS: Points
This is the first Navy SEAL team cleverly disguised to avoid capture. Unfortunately, their disguise is so good that their own troops (thats you) just want to feed them fish. (Each cub gets 2 warm-up throws and 5 fish to feed. 1 point for each fish into BIG MOUTH and 2 points for each fish into BUDDY. Record total points for each cub.)

#9 - FLAPJACK FLIPPING RELAY: Timed event
It has been weeks since you've had a good meal. General Washington captured a wagon load of pancake mix and told you there is enough for eight BIG pancakes per den, but you must continue to stand guard against a British attempt to recapture the mix. (Each den must stack the 8 pancakes one at a time. Cub picks up spatula looks a lot like a snow shovel runs to the griddle, flips the pancake and then scoops it up and runs to the plate. Pass the spatula to the next cub in line and repeat until all 8 flapjacks have been served up. Record time to complete the relay.)

#10 BIG THAW OBSTACLE COURSE: Timed event
After months of winter, the weather warms up. Suddenly you discover that the nice flat camp you have been living in is on a wet, swampy marsh and everything is starting to sink into the mud including you! To escape, you must jump from rock to rock, crawl through a big pile of melting snow, walk carefully across a fallen tree bridge (if you fall off, go back and try to cross again), climb over the fence, paddle across the stream - 3 strokes on each side of the boat, swing over the gorge, and sit down safely on dry land in your new camp. (Timing begins at the marsh and ends when seated in the new camp. Record time for each cub.)
