The Bon Secours Health Sciences Library is located in two rooms (SW 101 and SW 102) on the main floor of the hospital. Most books, periodicals, and computer stations are housed in SW 101 while SW 102 serves as the librarian's office. All Bon Secours employees with badges may enter the library at any time. The library's collection is comprised of major books and periodicals in various medical subspecialties, including Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Cardiology, Nursing, and Podiatry. During 2004, the library will maintain subscriptions to approximately 40 journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of the American Medical Association, and Annals of Surgery. Bon Secours employees may check out most of the books in the collection, although journals and reference materials must be used in the library. For the convenience of all Bon Secours staff, a photocopier is available in SW 101.
There are three computers (2 in SW 101, 1 in SW 102) that may be used by all Bon Secours staff for work-related and educational purposes. All library computers offer access to the Internet and to the complete Microsoft Suite. One of the printers in SW 101 is a color printer, and a laser printer is available in SW 102. The library's web page includes links to MEDLINE and several other online resources as well as to other libraries and to various professional associations. Computer training (including basic Internet and MEDLINE) is available to all staff. Please contact the librarian for details.
The librarian, Darcie Cote-Rumsey, holds a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Smith College and a Master's in Library Science from the University of Maryland. Her hours are Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9:30 until 2:00. During these times, she can answer reference questions, conduct literature searches, and process interlibrary loan requests. When the librarian is not in her office, search requests or questions may be left in the box on the wall outside SW 101 or e-mailed to darciemls@hotmail.com.Voice-mail and e-mail are checked daily, even when the librarian is not scheduled to be in her office.
