Looking in the mirror, she picked up her lipstick off the table. She opened it and turned it up, but turned it back down again, changing her mind. When she put the lipstick back in it's place, she picked up her cherry flavored lip gloss. Putting it on, she looked into the mirror again staring at the reflection.
She was waiting for her long-time boyfriend to come home, to return to her. They were going to go out to dinner for their 3 year anniversary. It was his idea, he had planned the whole evening, and he said it was going to be so romantic that it would be unforgettable.
But she wasn't sure if she was going to enjoy it, considering the fight they had that morning. In fact they were arguing about the dinner plans. He said he had to work late, so the plans would have to be delayed. His work always interfered with their relationship. She loved him, but hated the fact that they couldn't be together as much as they wanted to.
As she continued to look in the mirror, she saw his reflection as he entered the room but she didn't turn around. He came up behind her, placing his strong hands on her shoulders.
"Hey, baby," he said, kissing her neck.
"Hey."
"Are you ready?"
"I've been ready," she responded with a somewhat upsetting tone.
"Look, baby, I'm sorry that I had to work late, but you know that we want to get this album done. I'm really sorry."
"Yeah, let's just go, please."
The trip to the restaurant was silent. The meal was silent. The trip to the beach was silent. Even though the whole evening was silent, everything was still romantic like he said it would be.
Nick stopped walking, but she continued.
"Sarah?"
She stopped and turned around to face him.
"Baby, I'm really sorry about work," he said, stepping towards her. "But I love you, you know I do. You mean the world to me." Placing his hand on her face, he caressed her cheek with his thumb.
"I love you too, Nicky."
He reached in his coat pocket, taking hold of what was in there. "I want to say something to you, Sarah."
"Alright."
While getting down on one knee, he took the black velvet box out of his pocket opening it and holding it up to her. "Sarah, it would be my honor, if you would take me... as your husband?"
There were no words to express what she was feeling. She never saw this coming. She was in complete shock.
"Yes," she responded through joyous little cries. "Yes, I will."
He stood up and wrapped her in his arms, kissing her on her lips. He leaned back from her and took the stunning diamond ring out of the box, placing it on her finger. She looked at it on her hand, smiling. He picked her up in his arms and spun her around in a circle.
"I think it's time we go home," he said, putting her down.
"Nicky?"
"Yeah?"
"Thank you. Thank you so much. For tonight. It was incredible. I love you so much."
"I love you too, baby."
"Nicky, make love to me...," she said once they returned to their apartment.
He didn't say anything. He just picked her up in his arms, causing a little laugh from her. He carried her to the bedroom, and laid her down on the bed. That night they made love together for the first time.
"I told you tonight would be unforgettable."
