The Woman Before Me

"The woman Before me" - based on the song by Trisha Yearwood

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I can see you turn away

When I ask what for

You say it isn't anything

But I'm not sure

Something underneath the skin

Won't let you be

And you try to keep it in

But I can see

The woman before me

Must have been hard on you

Because the hurt in your eyes

I never put you through.

"Hey Baby, guess what the day after tomorrow is" Kris said to her boyfriend Brian.

"I don't know, what is it?" he asked.

"It is our one month anniversary". She said kissing him on the cheek. He slowly pulled away and walked out on the balcony of their beachfront apartment leaving Kris sitting alone on the bed. She walked out beside him and gently wrapped her arm around his waist and pulled him close to her. "What's wrong Bri?"

"Nothing, I'm fine, just a little tired" he tried to convince her. She looked in his eyes looking for a sign of truth, there wasn't any there was only an intense look of pain. She didn't want to pry at him too bad so she grabbed his hand and pulled him back into the room. She was worried about him, she knew something was bothering him, but she figured he would tell her when he was ready.

"Then come on, lets go to bed". They crawled into bed kissed each other goodnight and fell asleep.

Sometimes I think you must be talkin' to

The woman before me and you

Sometimes in an argument

It will show

When you go a little farther than you meant to go

I know you don't mean the things that you say

I just wanna ease the pain

That's in your way

The woman before me

Must have been hard on you

Because the hurt in your eyes

I never put you through.

If there are sorrows that bring back a tear

Don't let them keep us apart

The next day was somewhat normal, Brian went to rehearsals and Kris went to work at the local radio station, she was the morning DJ. Kris got home at Noon and called the fanciest restaurant in town and made reservations for her and Brian the next day. It was almost impossible to get reservations, but she managed. By the time Brian got home she had dinner ready and served.

"Hey babe" she said to him as she kissed him on the cheek and put his jacket away.

"Hi"

"Dinner is ready" they went into the dining room and ate their meal, they made light conversation, but it was mostly silent. "Oh by the way, I made dinner reservations for us tomorrow night at 7:30."

"What, why didn't you ask me first, what if I had something planned already?" he asked angrily.

"Well, I just thought that we could go out for a nice dinner for our anniversary." I sad sadly.

"What did you think that what I would have planned wouldn't be nice?" he got up from the table and walked into the bedroom. "Maybe we won't make it to our one month anniversary" he called into her. Kris wasn't the type to give up easy, she was calm and patient so she got up and walked to the bedroom. Though she was deeply hurt by his statement she wasn't going to let him go easily. She stood outside of the door and watched him stare out the window; she began to walk over to him, but stepped on a squeaky floorboard. He turned around, ran over to her and wrapped his arms around her body. "You didn't leave" he whispered, she pushed him away and looked him in the eyes, he still had extreme pain in them.

"I would never leave you".

"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean what I said, I would love to go to dinner with you"

You ought to know you've got nothing to fear

Here in my heart

Cause you and I

Will never be like the past

Whatever kind of memories that you have

Nothings going to hurt you now

I've already made a vow

That I can keep.

The sun was streaming through the window as Brian's eyes fluttered open. He turned over and reached for Kris, but she wasn't there. He lifted his head and frantically looked around, she wasn't there.

"Oh my god she did it to me too, she left me" he said aloud. He put his head in his hands and cried loudly. Kris was walking up the stairs with a tray of breakfast when she heard the sobs coming from their room. She ran to the room and set the tray down quietly on the floor. She put her hand on his shoulder and he jumped.

"You're still here? You didn't leave me?" he asked through his tears.

"Weren't you listening to me last night. I said I would never leave you. Now tell me what's been bothering you." she demanded.

"It's just that about a year ago, my last girlfriend, I loved her with all my heart, I was even thinking about asking her to marry me. She didn't feel the same. On our one-month anniversary, I had this perfect night planned, a dinner in the park moonlit walk on the beach. I went to pick her up at her house and surprise her but I found her sleeping with another man, she dumped me on the spot." he began to cry again. "I loved her so much, at least I thought I did, until I met you. Even before you I tried to date but always broke up with the girl before one month. When I woke up this morning and you weren't there I panicked, I thought you had done the same thing" he finished, still with tears in his eyes and looked at the floor.

"Brian look at me, I love you. I will never do that to you, I won't leave you."

"I'm so sorry for the way I have been to you lately. Thank you so much for not giving up on me."

"I promise that no matter what happens I will NEVER, you hear me NEVER give up on you, I love you and I will stay with you Always" Kris cried.

"I Love you Kris"

"I Love you too Bri".

"Happy One Month Anniversary Baby" Brian said for his first time.
