Chapter 4

"Bian! Ick!" Dylan shouted jarring me from my thoughts.

I shoved the box of cereal in to the cabinet and headed to the living room to find Brian, Nick, and Jennifer playing with Dylan.

"Hey little man," Brian scooped Dylan up and Dylan wrapped his small arms around Brian's neck.

"Why does he call me Ick?" Nick whined, "I'm not that disgusting!"

Jennifer scoffed at his remark and the pretended she didn't do anything.

"That's because he can't pronounce n's when they start the word off," I startled the three.

"Hi Sandra," Brian greeted, "We followed Jennifer home to visit Dylan."

"Okay cool," I replied and sat on the couch and flipped the T.V. on.

Jennifer and Nick joined Brian on the floor and began playing with Dylan. I watched as my friends entertained him and smiled.

"Dadda!" Dylan yelled and ran in front of the T.V. Here on Earth was on the screen and he repeatedly pointed to Josh yelling 'Dadda'.

"Want Dadda!" Dylan began to get fussy and tried to hug him through the screen.

"Dylan come here baby," I motioned for him to come to me.

I lifted him up and set him on my lap.

"Daddy's not here," I tried to explain, "That's just a picture of him."

He looked up at me confused and I tried explaining by showing a picture of Brian and then the real Brian. I don't think he quite got jist of what I was saying but he knew Daddy was just a picture.

"Dadda! Dadda! Dadda!" Dylan screeched.

"Okay yes that's Daddy," I pointed at the screen and then over towards Brian, "Why don't you go see Bian and Ick?"

"Bian! Ick!" Dylan crawled out of my lap and headed to Brian and Nick.

I stared blankly at the television screen somewhat watching Chris Klein, Leelee Sobieski, and Josh. Brian left Nick and Jennifer to entertain Dylan and joined me on the couch.

"Hey, you okay?" Brian's voice brought me out of my stare.

"Yeah, I'm fine," I quietly said.

"Why did he just call Josh Hartnett his dad?" Brian questioned since he was unaware of Dylan's dad status.

"Because Josh is his dad," I looked into his eyes.

"What? So you're trying to tell me that Josh Hartnett, the guy beating the crap out of Chris Klein on the T.V., is Dylan's father?" Brian said unconvinced.

"Yeah, that's his dad," I stated.

"I don't believe you," Brian stated sternly.

"Wait here a sec," I said and ran to my room to find my Josh box.

I came back with the box and handed it to Brian. He lifted the lid off and saw all sorts of pictures and momentos from when Josh and I were together. He sifted through the pictures and placed them back in the box. He set the box on the coffee table and focused his attention on me.

"Okay, I'm sorry I didn't believe you but I do now," Brian admitted, "And now that the more I look at Dylan I do see a likeness to Josh."

"Yeah, well Josh doesn't know about him yet," I informed, "We broke up two years ago and I haven't been able to contact him or his parents."

"Oh I see," Brian replied, "So what's Dylan's full name then?"

"Dylan Joshua Hartnett," I stated.

"Dylan Joshua Hartnett," Brian said loudly, "That works for him."

"What? He's related to Josh Hartnett?" Nick overheard.

"Yeah Josh is his dad," Jennifer informed.

"He is? How come I didn't know that?" Nick questioned.

"Cuz nobody ever told you!" Jennifer yelled.

The two went back to entertaining Dylan and Brian went to join them. I sat back and watched the rest of Here on Earth.
