Chapter 5

That next morning when Lance woke up, Victoria wasn’t there. He remembered the argument with his mom and telling her about it. Lance immediately thought that Victoria had left out of guilt. Lance looked at his watch and realized it was only six in the morning. Victoria never woke up before nine or ten. Walking through the hallway, Lance spotted Victoria sleeping softly on the couch. He smiled in thinking that Victoria was ready to do anything to make his parents happy. Not wanting to disturb Victoria, he went back to bed. When Lance was falling asleep, he slipped into a dream. He pictured the big field at his grandfather’s ranch. All his family was around. Victoria was playing with their two children. Everyone was so happy. He instantly woke up and smiled. Victoria was ‘the one’. The one person that would make him happy for the rest of his life.

“Lance! Wake up!” Victoria said shaking him.

“What time is it?” Lance asked half opening his eyes.

“Almost noon. We were supposed to leave an hour ago but you would never get up.” Victoria said.

“Why didn’t you just wake me earlier?” Lance asked.

“I tried. You wouldn’t budge.” Victoria said.

“I guess I was really tired then.” Lance said.

“I already packed your clothes, we don’t need to be any late then we already are.” Victoria said.

“I want to thank you for what you did last night.” Lance said holding her hands.

“What did I do?” Victoria asked.

“Sleeping out on the couch.” Lance said.

“No problem. The last thing I want to do is cause problems between you and your family.” Victoria said.

“How did I get so lucky in finding a girl like you?” Lance asked her.

“I feel like I’m the lucky one.” Victoria said smiling. When Diane walked into Lance’s room, she found them kissing.

“AHEM.” Diane said.

“Oh, hey mom.” Lance said holding Victoria in his arms.

“I wanted to say good-bye to you both. Have a great trip and call me when you get there.” Diane said giving them hugs.

“I’m sorry if I caused you any pain these couple of days. I did have a lot of fun. I hope to see you again soon.” Victoria said.

“You are coming for Christmas break aren’t you?” Diane asked.

“I am?” Victoria questioned the both of them.

“Yes, we are both coming for Christmas break.” Lance said smiling.

“I hope you come with a lot of Christmas cheer.” Diane said.

“Don’t worry Mrs. Bass, I will.” Victoria said.

“Please, call me Diane. I feel like my mother is standing next to me when they call me that.” Diane said.

“Okay Diane.” Victoria said. She still felt a little weird about calling Lance’s mom by her first name. But if Diane was okay with it, Victoria was okay with it.

“What is your dream wedding?” Victoria asked suddenly.

“Why?” Lance asked in confusion.

“I just want to know. I’m not thinking about marriage or anything, I just want to know.” Victoria said.

“Oh, okay. I’m kind of torn between a small and simple wedding and a big and lavish wedding. I want everyone to know that I’m getting married but I don’t want it to be town news or anything. What about you?” Lance asked her.

“I have to have a big and lavish wedding. I’m only going to have one so I’m going to make it big. Beautiful flowers would be everywhere. Bride’s maids wearing sky blue dresses. I’ll have a long veil with the dress having a train on the end.” Victoria said imagining her wedding day.

“Seems like you’ve put a lot of thought into your wedding.” Lance mentioned.

“Yeah, I guess every girl does that. Every detail has to be right so it’s no last minute decision making for anyone.” Victoria said.

“I don’t want to pry into your personal life to much, but who would you want to walk you down the isle?” Lance asked.

“Your father.” Victoria said without question.

“Excuse me?” Lance asked her.

“Oh, probably the groom’s father. I don’t know why I said your father.” Victoria said a little embarrassed.

“It’s okay. Where would you want to have the our.. I mean your wedding?” Lance asked.

“Everyone has theirs in a church. I would want it in a canopy where no one would get too hot. All these movies I see everyone is always fanning themselves for air and trying to enjoy the wedding. I wouldn’t want that.” Victoria said.

Victoria really wanted to marry Lance, but they had just met. However, she didn’t know that Lance wanted to ask her really badly but didn’t know how Victoria would react to it. Neither of her parents weren’t together anymore, so her view of marriage wasn’t too strong. Victoria wanted a marriage with no secrets. However she was keeping the biggest secret of all from Lance. She has to tell him. ‘I will tell him when we get back’ Victoria told herself. She didn’t want to tell him because she was afraid of his reaction. What if he didn’t love her anymore? Her heart would be broken yet again. But she has to tell him sometime. Either Victoria told him or Brooke would if she found out that Victoria never once mentioned to him about her secret. He is going to be so hurt when he finds out. But when Victoria tells Lance her reasons he might accept why she didn’t tell him.
