Researching the twelve known children of John and Mary Wilkins who lived in the area of North Carolina that was originally Buncombe County and later became Haywood and Macon Counties. They left North Carolina shortly after the 1830 census was taken and moved to Cole County, Missouri. Children in this family were Elizabeth who married James Thompson, William, Jonathan, Lettie who married Daniel Lovell, Matthew, Isaac, George, Cassandra who married Richard Meredith Hart, Resina who married Daniel B. Graham, Nancy who married Orange B. Prentiss, Hannah who married Adam T. Miller and John.

John Wilkins died in Cole County, Missouri in 1844. William Wilkins and his family moved to Texas in 1839 and was probably accompanied by his brother George who married Melvina Jackson in Lamar County in 1846. After the death of John, Mary joined her married children Matthew, Isaac, Jonathan and Orange and Nancy Prentiss in their move to Texas in 1844. Only Elizabeth Thompson, Lettie Lovell and John remained in Missouri. Daughters Resina, Hannah and Cassandra were not married until after their arrival in Texas.
