on the road

jack kerouac

my friend leah, on her page, reccomends this book. kerouac's style is interesting. sometimes rather random and peculiar, but he's very descriptive in ways that can't quite be described, but those who may have read the book will understand. it's about this guy, sal paradise, who hitchhikes and drives across the US a few times, and then down to mexico and back. it was published in the 40s or something and "defined a generation" (the beat generation after wwII). it's also been called the huck finn of the twentieth century...i liked it more than huck finn (i actually finished this one, altho' just barely - it took me about six weeks) but that's not saying much, seeing as how i hated huck finn. it's okay, but not everything i was expecting of it.
