Part Four

She sat at a desk lit only by a small lamp and peered over the files she had in front of her. There simply had to be a way, and it had to be in here. But what was it?

Glancing through lists of drugs and various mental diagnoses, she let her mind blur. None of this meant anything to her. At the bottom of the list, she spotted something. It was a note, written in a doctor’s scribbled handwriting, Getting out a magnifying glass, she peered closely at the words.

“Ah-ha,” she triumphed. This was it. This was the way to defeat him. This was the thing she had been looking for.

“Y’all almost packed?” Mike asked as he re-entered the living room carrying a suitcase.

“Just about,” Micky replied, dropping his tattered footlocker on the floor. “Where’s Davy?”

Davy just then entered the room, carrying his own suitcase. “Right ‘ere,” he replied, answering Micky’s question. “Is that everything?”

“I sure hope so,” Mike replied. “I wanna get going as soon as possible tomorrow mornin’,”

“Is Petah all ready?” Davy asked. Mike shrugged

“Far as I can tell,” he replied. “If he ain’t ready tomorrow, it's his problem.”

“Then I guess we all better head to bed,” Micky decided.

“Yeah,” Mike replied. “I want everyone up at seven tomorrow so we can get goin’.”

“Yes mommy,” Micky replied with a smile, heading up the stairs.

Davy was sleeping comfortably until something strange happened. He was awakened from a deep sleep and a comfortable dream when all of the sudden he felt something sharp in his neck. It was a strong, sudden, sharp pain, and he reached toward the back of his neck to feel for what had caused it.

But before he could, he found himself getting more and more tired. Slowly, his eyes got heavy, and he sunk into a deep sleep.
