"Does the defense have anymore questions?" Judge Centris asked. Mike looked at Peter with an apologetic look, and stood up. He opened his mouth and was about to speak when there came a shout from the back of the courtroom.
"WAIT!"
Mike, Bob, Peter, Kimberly, Judge Centris, the jury, and the audience turned toward the sound. Micky stood in the doorway of the courtroom.
"Micky what are you doing here?" Mike asked.
Micky ignored Mike. "Your honor, if it's alright, I would like to add a witness. For the defense that is," he said, speaking to the judge.
The judge looked down at him. "I hope it's not too late," he added, crossing his fingers.
The judge shook his head and Micky grinned. "Also, sir, if feasible, I'd like to ask the witness the questions, please?"
The judge looked at Mike for a moment. Mike shrugged and nodded. "Very well. Call your last witness, defense."
Micky grinned a huge grin that only he could grin. "Thank you, sir. I call to the stand Mr. James Martins." There was a murmur through the court. Mike turned to Micky.
"Micky, where have you been?" he whispered hurriedly. Micky grinned casually.
"Out getting our last witness," he replied with an innocent smile. Mike just moaned.
James, (the volleyball player from the beach) entered the courtroom (now dressed in a suit and tie).
Nicole moaned silently and covered her eyes.
James took the stand and Micky walked up to him.
"You were playing in the volleyball tournament, am I right?" he asked.
"Yep," James replied casually. "I was playing on the tournament. My team won, too," he boasted casually.
"Congratulations," Micky replied, cheerfully. "Did you meet that man?" he asked, pointing. All eyes turned to Peter, who, under sudden scrutiny, looked surprised.
"Nope."
"Not at all?" Micky frowned.
"Nope."
"Oh. How about his wife?"
"I might have," James replied. "Who was she?"
Micky scanned the audience until he spotted Nicole. "Her," he replied, pointing.
"Her? That lady in the pink hat?"
"No, the one behind her," Micky replied. "Stand up, hon."
Nicole stood up, somewhat embarrassed.
"Oh, her," James said, recognition dawning on his face. "Yeah, I saw her. Hi Nicole," he added, waving. Nicole waved back sheepishly and sat down.
"How about her?" Micky asked, pointing to Kimberly.
"Yep."
"Tell me about how you met her?"
"Okay. I was on the beach early, warming up and chatting with a few of my friends, and she came up and started talking to me. "
"Oh? What'd you talk about?"
"Stuff. She said that there was gonna be a girl out here, and she wanted me to talk to her."
"What'd you say?"
"I said, sure. I mean, a girl, sure, I'll talk to her, but then I asked why?"
"Oh, yeah, I see," Micky replied, nodding in understanding.
"And she said she had her motives."
"Motives?" Micky asked. "What were those motives?"
"That's what I said," James replied.
"And what'd she say?"
"She said that she had a bit of revenge she wanted to get accomplished. She said that I'd know this girl because she'd have a couple of kids with her, a boy and a girl."
"I see."
"And she said that she wanted me to pay extra attention to this girl."
"And why was that?"
"She wanted to make her husband jealous."
"Oooh," Micky replied, as the courtroom gasped. "And what'd you say?"
"I backed off. I said, no way. I know better than to get involved with jealous husbands."
"Oh yeah, makes sense," Micky said, nodding in understanding.
"Then she said not to worry because he wouldn't do anything at all."
"Oh?"
"Then she said that her boyfriend was jealous of this guy because he used to go out with that girl. If you know what I mean."
"Oh, I see," Micky replied. "Go on."
"And so he wanted to see that their marriage got broken up."
"Oh, my."
"Yeah, that's what I said. And she said, don't worry, all I had to do was get him jealous. Then later, she'd take care of the rest."
"Take care of the rest? How?"
"That's what I said. She said that she had her ways. And she said that she knew how to break up the marriage."
"Oh, how?"
"She said that there were 2 ways to break up a marriage. Death and infidelity. She didn't want to do the first one, so she'd make sure the second happened. "
"Really, and how was she going to do that?"
"She said that she would lure him to her house. And if he didn't do what she asked.."
"Which was?" "Have sex with her."
"Yipe."
"Then she'd tell the cops that he raped her. And she said they'd probably believe her because she was a girl and all."
"I see. And you swear that this is all true?"
"Yes."
"I see. Thank you."
Micky sat down amongst the murmur of the crowd, next to Mike.
"Prosecution, any questions?"
Bob stood up.
"No questions," he replied. There was a murmur in the crowd. Judge Centris banged his gavel.
"Order."
"If there are no further witnesses from the defense, I call a short recess. Court will reconvene for closing statements in one hour." He banged the gavel and the court disassembled.
"Micky, what on earth gave you such an idea?" Mike asked, looking him over in disbelief.
Micky shrugged. "Long story. But I think we got in clinched now, don't we?" Mike nodded. "I think so. I hope so."
