Sorry that I haven’t written in this much lately. I was really busy with my project in the city. I learned some interesting things about human culture that I didn’t know before. Makes me think I could almost live with them eventually.
I’m home right now, with my mom, for a week or so. I told her last night that I had gone to the city. She was sort of impressed, I think, but mostly distracted. She seems to have something else on her mind lately, but she won’t tell me what it is.
I’ve been doing other stuff of course besides just going to the city. I now know a bunch of different spells. I learned how to go invisible and I learned how to make a fire. I learned teleportation. And my newest one is learning transformation. This one’s really hard. By transformation I mean copying things. And then transforming into them. Like animals or people or something like that. It’s pretty hard. So far I’ve not been able to do much with that one.
I can’t wait until I get back to George’s now because I’ll get to learn more spells. After transformation, Mr. Stevens said that he’d teach us some fighting techniques. Colin and I thought that was pretty cool, even if it isn’t practical. I mean, there’s no real need for us to learn how to fight now, but still it seems cool. I get to go back tomorrow, so I’d better get some sleep so I can leave early.

Well, I’m back at George’s now. I’ve almost got the Transformation spell down. It’s kind of hard. You have to make yourself into something like a mirror and then copy whatever the thing is. Exactly how you do this varies depending on what it is. With humans or others like us you have to work harder because their features are so much more complicated. With simpler animals it’s easy because they are less complicated, but you have to change shape, which is hard. And then there’s always the risk that something could happen where you’d get stuck in another shape. So the spell isn’t used to often. But Mr. Stevens says that it’s useful to know, just in case you want to break into a zoo or something. Not that we’d do that.
Tomorrow we start learning how to defend ourselves. Mr. Stevens said that before you learn to fight you have to learn to defend. So we’re going to learn to dodge stuff and use shields. I’d better get some sleep so I can get up and be rested tomorrow.

Wow. Dodging stuff is hard! Colin and I spent all today and yesterday learning to put up mental shields and dodge stuff. We practiced with beach balls and other soft stuff so we wouldn’t actually get hurt. Mr. Stevens said that my telepathy (from my mother) might give me an extra edge here, and he was right. I was way ahead of Colin. I’d write more, but I’m tired.

Man, it’s been awhile, hasn’t it? Well, there’s lots to tell you now. First of all, I finished my second “real world” project. In this one I went to a smaller town of humans. They lived in much smaller buildings and transported themselves in small mechanical devices known as “cars”. They seem to be very convenient, even if I’m not sure precisely how they’re operated. Not as exciting as the city, but pretty interesting anyway.
Also, I’ve mastered the defensive techniques I’ve learned. The shields are pretty cool and I’ve got the dodging down pat. I’ve also almost mastered the offensive techniques. Those are awesome! You can shoot beams of energy…blasts actually…from your hands! It’s really cool. Colin and I have been sparring at least an hour each day.
Really, really cool stuff going on now!

Well, I think now would be a good time to end this journal. Mom said that I can come home now, and George has decided to move. I’m not sure where he’s moving to, but I think it’s pretty far away. Mr. Stevens has taken a long vacation. He says he’s taught Colin and I all we need to know. We were kind of sad to see him go, since we learned so much from him.

Oh yeah, one more thing before I close this. A weird thing happened to me today. I’m back home now, with Mom. When I got home, she saw the stone I had gotten. She admired it and said that it was important. Then she gave me this old book. It was written in the Old Language, and I’m not sure that I’ll be able to understand it. But Mom said I should try.
But that’s not the weird thing I wanted to tell you. I was sleeping last night and the stone started to glow for no reason. An image of a lady appeared, and I saw a face behind her that I didn’t recognize. The lady looked a little bit like Mom, except her hair was darker. She was very quiet and then she said only one little sentence. “The girl is ready.” I guess that the girl is me…but I’m not sure what I’m ready for. I guess I’ll figure it out sooner or later.
