3,000 MINK RELEASED AT WISCONSIN FUR FARM

Neiman Marcus Mink Supplier Hit

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE AUGUST 03, 1999

Bristol, WI - A reported mink raid at a Kenosha County, Wisconsin fur farm has all the markings of being the work of the Animal Liberation Front. In the early morning hours of Aug. 01 or Aug. 02, approx. 3000 mink were released from their cages into the surrounding countryside.

The fur farm raided was identified as Krieger Farm (owned by Richard Krieger). Krieger Farm is a known supplier of mink fur to Neiman Marcus, the well-known national chain currently under attack by animal activists across the U.S. for its fur sales.

"These mink would have been piled into a gas chamber, but now have a chance at life," said JP Goodwin upon learning of this mink release. JP Goodwin is founder of CAFT (Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade) which has taken a leading role in fighting Neiman Marcus. Goodwin further states, "We would much rather see these mink given the opportunity at life, than left for a certain death." Many of the released mink have reportedly been recaptured by area farmers, but some will most certainly survive.

"For those mink who do manage to fully escape from Richard Krieger and not get recaptured, it is for them that this raid is worthwhile," said A.L.F. media spokesperson David Barbarash.

Although not yet publicly claimed by the A.L.F., the Animal Liberation Front has claimed responsibility for dozens or fur farm animal releases over the past few years. In the State of Wisconsin the Animal Liberation Front raided a fur farm in Beloit almost exactly one year ago - the Brown Mink Ranch on Aug. 27, 1998. Similarly, 3000 mink were also released at that time.

On July 03, 1998 310 animals were liberated from United Vaccines experimental research fur farm located in Middleton, Wisconsin. That raid was jointly claimed by the A.L.F. and the Earth Liberation Front.

Numerous fur farms have been raided by the A.L.F. in neighbouring states Iowa and Minnesota over the past few years, and tens of thousands of mink and hundreds of fox have been released across the U.S.

"I have no doubt in my mind that this is the work of the Animal Liberation Front," states David Barbarash.

The Animal Liberation Front is a worldwide underground organization dedicated to strategic non-violent direct action aimed at all forms of the animal abuse industry. It's two main tactics include the liberation of laboratory and abused animals and the release of fur farm animals, as well as economic sabotage - inflicting costly damage to the property of animal abusers.
