The Road to Destiny: Chapter 7

"Welcome back, Sir." Sean, the Jacks family butler, took Jax's coat. "Thank you. Is my brother here?" "He's waiting for you in the meeting room." Jax rolled his eyes, walking slowly to the back. *Waiting* meant that Jerry had prepared a tongue lashing, and Jax just wasn't in the mood. "Well well, what did you do? Take the long way home?" "I was far away." "Yes, speaking of away...while you were *away* we had a major crises with Anders Enterprises." Jerry stood, tossing a file across the table to Jax's side. "Seems their too young vice president has allowed his personal life to interfere with business." he waited as Jax looked through some figures, his eyes growing as he realized how much money they had lost. "And that was only in 4 days. Can you imagine the damage he will do if we don't fix this?" "We need to vote him out." "Exactly. Which is why you needed to be here, a group of us will meet on Sunday, and then by our regular shareholders meeting Monday we should have rallied enough votes to get him out." "The company bears his family name." "But he's the only family memeber still working. He's the only one on board. It should be simple. Remember, Monday. So any tantrum you plan on having had better wait until after." "Oh, I missed you too." Jax rolled his eyes, leaving. "Your cab is here." Mrs. Sellers turned away from the window. "Are you sure you're better?" "Better or no, I have to go back to work." Keesha smiled as she stood. "Thank you so much for everything you've done for me." Mrs. Sellers smiled, giving her a hug. "Don't be a stranger." "I won't. Count on that." Cameron wasn't home on Friday, so Keesha was able to gather all of her things and move them into the apartment she had her friend Hilary find for her while she was staying with Mrs. Sellers. On Monday, Keesha walked into the office. She would give her two weeks notice and then she would leave. There's no way she could work in the same office as Cameron. "Keesha." Cameron came out of the office, walking over to her receptionist desk. "How are you?" "I'm fine." "Good...good. There is a problem though, can you come into my office?" "Why don't you just tell me here." "You're no longer the receptionist." Keesha blinked. "You're firing me? Because I broke up with you?" "Shh." Cameron ordered. "No, you've been promoted." Cameron knew Keesha would leave, that fact was cemented when he came home and her things were gone. The only thing that may get her to stay would be a promise of more money. "With a raise of course...quite a substanital one." Keesha froze. A raise? Cameron knew she could use the money but.... "I don't know." "Keesha, your mother needs the money, right? You already do a lot more than answer phones anyway. Now you just have a new title to go along with it." "What title?" "Exeutive assistant." "To who?" "Me." "No way." Keesha sat down. "Look, I understand, we are no longer together. But I need your help here. You're the math genuis around here. You catch things I miss all the time." Keesha sighed. "I have a meeting this afternoon with some shareholders. And they're expecting answers, because we've lost a lot of money while you were gone. One of them even came in, ranting that it must be my fault because of our...problem." "What? How does anyone know about about us period." "Come on Keesha, the entire office knows. Hilary knows and we weren't exactly discreet. We went on vacation together, and yet I came back and you were no where in sight. People put two and two together and obviously that news spread past this office. Anyway, I need for you to just go through some files, and I'll give you the address of the meeting, you can meet me there." "I don't know Cameron...." "You can think about it on your way to your new office. I can just imagine your mother's face when you tell her..." Cameron pulled Keesha's chair out. "Coming?" "I'll come see. I will go through your files and *may* come to the meeting if I find anything, but I am not, repeat not, going to be your executive assistant." "Just think about it." Jax got ready slowly, walking over to the window as he worked on his tie. Mrs. Sellers had called last night, letting him know Keesha had left a few days prior. He had tried to think of a way to ask if she left a way to contact her, but he couldn't think of one. Aside that he wanted to see her. And that reason just wasn't enough. "Cameron Anders?" "Present." Jerry glanced at his watch. Jax had better not miss this meeting. "Jasper Jacks." "He's on his way. But we can start discussions without him, I assume there are no objections." "Aren't you holding his proxy?" Cameron looked at his watch. "Excuse me." he picked up his phone. "There's nothing here." Keesha stated simply. "What do you mean." "What I said. If there's something, I sure as hell can't find it." "Sorry I'm late." Jax came in and sat down. "But obviously I've missed nothing since this person feels it's okay to take personal calls." "Thank you." Cameron hung up on Keesha. "You must be the other Mr. Jacks. First meeting correct? Normally Jericho holds your proxy while you're off galavanting in other parts of the world. So nice to finally meet you. I'm vice-president Anders. Just sit back, I'm sure you'll pick things up very quickly." Jax glared at Cameron. It would be so much fun getting rid of him. "Why is he here anyway?" "Certain votes require all stockholders to be present. Votes such as...who should be the acting vice president of a company." Jax smiled. "Pardon?" "In fact, I think that we should have a vote right now. Why don't you just sit back, I'm sure you'll pick up things very quickly." The news spread like wildfire. Cameron had been ousted as vice president of the company he had inherited from his father. It would be the first time since it's incorpration that an Anders didn't hold a position of power in the company. News came that there would be a review of everyone's jobs, and to expect a visit from the shareholders by the end of the afternoon. Keesha sat at her desk quietly, barely paying attention to the hustle and bustle around her as people ran around, panicking about their jobs, trying to look as if they were important enough to keep. Keesha sighed deeply. She missed him. Plain and simple, she missed Jax. She missed him so much she almost wrote down his numbers that she had found on Mrs. Sellers table. But what would she do with them. Call him. For what? She didn't have a reason. Aside from just wanting to talk to him. Wanting to wasn't enough. If she followed that logic she would have kissed him before he left, like she so desparately wanted to do. Keesha sighed again. "Anders Enterprises how may I direct your call?" she answered the phone. "You know you want to do it. You live for this stuff Jax." Jax sighed. "You just want to keep me closer to town so that you can watch me." "That's not true." Jerry protested as he got out of the car. "The people there already think I'm an ogre." "And they would be right." "In any event." Jerry ignored Jax's barb. "We want them to like us, at least this early in the game. So you should do it. Besides, think of how much money you can make us." "It's not about the money." "Of course, it's the..." "Fun of it all. Close the door." Jerry did and watched as Jax drove off. "You're quitting?" Hilary asked. "Of all the people who would probably be safe, it's the receptionist. I'm sure you can keep your job." "You know that woman I told you about...Mrs. Sellers. She sat me down and had a long talk with me about *signs* and destiny and everything else. Why we had the conversation I don't know, but I'm glad we did, because she's right. Obviously I wasn't meant to work here. I wanted to quit anyway, why bother staying now. Besides, perhaps I will do something different. You're sure you don't mind watching the phones?" "Hell no. At least now I can say I'm the receptionist and keep my job." Hilary laughed and Keesha shook her head as she walked to the elevator. "You want me to tell you how Cameron is doing?" Keesha turned. "Don't care. Bye." Keesha got on the elevator and went down to the parking lot. Hey, maybe Mrs. Sellers wouldn't mind if she came back while she looked for another job, Keesha thought to herself with a laugh as she carried her box to her car. She knew she should be worried, she didn't have a job. But she had money saved that she was planning to send to her mother, but maybe it could hold off for awhile. Everything happens for a reason, she remembered... "Oh My..." Jax looked up, freezing. "Keesha?" his eyes lit up. " Hi!" he jogged over. "What are you doing here?" they asked in unision, both ending in a laugh. "I work in this building." "Oh, I may be, I'm not entirely sure yet. That is rather odd." Jax took the box from her. "Where to?" "There you go again..." "Where to?" Jax repeated. "This way." she led him towards her car. "You're walking like an old pro I see." "Yes. 3 days without you around just worked wonders, because I had to get everywhere by myself....I can't beleive you're here." "Me either. Small world." "Obviously." Keesha opened her trunk and Jax placed the box inside. "So, I may be seeing more of you, if we're in the same building." "Actually, I just quit." "Why?" Jax asked perplexed. "Signs." Keesha whispered. She couldn't beleive that Jax was here. She had done nothing but think about him since he left...and here he was. She couldn't beleive it. "Signs?" "Mrs. Sellers told me life always leads you in the right direction..." Jax watched as she stepped closer. "...if you're paying any attention at all." Keesha finished softly. Jax stared at her, his eyes searching hers. "Signs." he mumbled. "Yes." Keesha reached up, brushing her mouth across his. Jax opened his mouth to hers and she invaded it sensually as they kissed deeply. After awhile Keesha pulled back and stepped away, her eyes waiting as his opened. They stared at each other in silence until she finally said, "I just couldn't let you walk away again without doing that..." Jax didn't respond Keehsa grew flustered. "But...I'll be...going now..." "No." Jax breathed, pulling Keesha back to him and kissing her passionately. "Keesha!" Keesha tore off the kiss, glancing over at the sound of her name. "Cameron?" Jax blinked. *This* was *the* Cameron? Shani
