The Road to Destiny: Chapter 40 (The End)
"What happened!" Jane ran up to Jerry.
"Who called you?" Jerry asked without turning away
from Jax's window.
"The doctor...what happened?"
"Dad happened."
Jane turned, looking at John as he walked into the
waiting area.
Keesha sighed deeply, moving up slightly so she could
bury her face against Jax's neck. "So have you
heard...we're going to have a baby. How's that for
added incentive..." she mumbled. "Jax?..." Keesha
sat up,hearing commotion coming from outisde. She
stood and walked over to the door.
"This is not my fault!"
Keesha opened the door, and the bickering stopped.
"How is he?"
"Jax will be fine. What are you doing here?"
"He's my son dammit!" John barked. "I need to see
him..."
"Question is does he need to see you." Keesha's voice
was quiet, but firm. "Jane, yes...you, I'm not really
sure about."
"You can't tell me..."
"We're married now, so actually I can. Jane?" Keesha
looked at Jane and moved past. Jane glanced at her
husband for a second and then virtually flew into
Jax's room.
"Dammit this is not my fault!"
"How is this not your fault?" Jerry answered sharply.
"You had him knocked unconcious, you are the one who
put him through the stress, he blacked out after a day
of dealing with you! This is all your fault...and
if...if he doesn't wake up, I..."
"You can see him." Keesha whispered.
"What?" John and Jerry said in unison.
"If you think it will help, then please go in and
see Jax. But I'm trusting you here - you can see him
if you think it will help. But if any part of you
thinks things will get worse, then I am asking you,
for Jax, to please just go."
"I can't believe you let him in there." Jerry and
Keesha watched through the window as John and Jane sat
with Jax.
"The thing about parents is, no matter what they do,
even when you're the one they hurt, when it's all said
and done, they're your parents. And when you're in
trouble, your immediate reaction is to call for them."
Keesha looked at Jerry. "Maybe with them actually in
the room, Jax will be forced to wake up and call for
them," she finished softly.
Jerry stopped looking through Jax's window, turning
his attention to Keesha. Without a word, he wrapped
his arm around her and she closed her eyes, resting
her head against him.
Jane moved to the corner as John walked over to Jax's
bed, sitting on the edge. "My boy..." he whispered
his voice breaking with the tears he refused to allow
to enter into his eyes. "I'm sorry. Jax, I am so
very sorry...I was wrong...do you hear me, Jasper. I
was wrong. I was wrong to interfere and I was wrong
to..shut you out...and keep your mother away. I
screwed everything up, didn't I? I'm sorry, Jax..."
His head finally stopped hurting. That unbearable
pain had finally gone away. And Jax thought, if he
just laid there, just laid there, it would never come
back. Besides, his body desperately needed a
rest...he was so very tired. There were mumbled
voices in the room with him...faintly he thought he
heard his father talking...but he was too tired to
open his eyes to find out. All he knew was that he
wanted to rest.
The thing was, the longer he rested, the more he
wanted to continue to do so.
Time passed. Keesha opened Jax's window a crack,
stretching before walking back over to his bed. The
doctor had made her promise she would try and get some
sleep-and she knew she had to take care of
herself...especially since there were two others
needing her to care for them as well. She sighed
deeply, touching her stomach absently as she looked at
Jax laying there, looking so very peaceful. Watching
him reminded Keesha of the saying "It is always quiet
before the storm."
"Don't," she chastised herself. Things would get
better, not worse. She had to beleive that.
Keesha sat down next to Jax's bed, saying the only
thing that was left to say. "I love you."
I love you too. Jax answered instantly to the voice
he immediately recognized. He could always tell when
Keesha was speaking, he could even tell if she was far
or near by whether he understood what she said. He
wasn't sure about everyone else, but he knew her
voice,it was almost as if he could feel it. She was
close now, he could understand what she said. I love
you too...he repeated.
She wished she knew if he could hear her, but there
was no use. Jax was so still, the only movement the
slight rise and fall of his chest as he breathed.
Keesha watched him for a moment before resting her
face against his chest, looking up into his face.
Keesha was very near now, Jax could even slightly feel
her against his body. And actually, the intimate feel
of her next to him made his mind peaceful. Now, not
only where the pains in his head gone, but his mind
was resting too. He wanted them to stay like this,
just him and Keesha...and the baby he heard her say
she was carrying...everything was peaceful now. And
he wanted to stay.
"Jax?" Keesha began. "Jax...please..." her voice
broke and suddenly the tears started to fall. She
closed her eyes and begged him again to come back.
Please don't cry. Jax hated it when Keesha cried.
It broke his heart. Please Keesha....
Keesha's eyes flew open at the gentle touch on her
cheek.
"...please don't cry."
"Jax?" Keesha leaned up, her eyes growing as she could
actually see the blue within his.
"Please don't cry..."
"You came back..." she choked.
Jax ran his finger over her lips. "I said stop
crying." he whispered as his own eyes filled with
tears.
Jerry burst through the door, the doctor he had called
at his heels.
"I love you Jax..." Keesha whispered.
"And I love you." Jax smiled. "Both of you." he
glanced at Keesha's stomach before looking back up
into her eyes once more.
Finally he turned his attention to the doctor. Behind
them he could see his parents and he smiled at them
softly. He saw Jerry clear his throat, running his
fingers through his hair and Jax's smile grew. "Love
you," he mouthed and Jerry had to leave the room, not
wanting his baby brother to have the ammuntion of
seeing him crying. The doctor helped Jax up and he
looked over at Keesha again.
"The baby's name is going to start with J you know.
That's a given." He grinned.
"You've always been a brat." Keesha laughed through
her tears.
"I said stop crying..."
THE END-yes the end. Yes there will probably be a
sequel.
