The Road to Destiny: Chapter 37
"Jax?" Keesha repeated.
Jax looked at Keesha, realizing he should probably tell her, what his
father had done. But he didn't want to. Jerry was right, she had far too
much information already to deal with.
And aside from that, he just didn't want to. The fact was that no matter
what, John was Jax's father. And he was ashamed at all his father had
done to Keesha, and to him. And it was something he wanted to handle on
his own, and not involve Keesha with. His father had always taught him
family skeletons stay in the family closet. And this family skeleton was
one that was pure Jacks...and despite that marriage band shining on her
finger, or maybe because of it, Jax knew that Keesha's connection to his
family could be ended. It wasn't that he thought she would leave him
because of it, because he knew she wouldn't. It was that Jax felt so much
shame right now in just carrying the Jacks name, that he wanted to spare
himself of even more-and not have to look into Keesha's eyes, and tell her
what his father had done to her.
"I..." Jax dropped his gaze from her. "There's this business deal,
that's gone awry, and it's on my mind," he spoke quickly, hoping the
faster he spoke, the less of a chance there was that she would realize he
was lying.
"Oh." Keesha yawned, standing to stretch. "We can do this another time
if..."
"No!" Jax answered emphatically. "We deserve to be together...to go on
this honeymoon, without worries and..." He dropped his stare once more.
"Just...no."
Keesha sat down again. "Okay...so off we go. Besides, you obviously need
a vacation anyway. You are way too high strung." she leaned her head
against his shoulder, reaching down and taking hold of his hand. "I love
you." she whispered, her fingers playing with his as she closed her eyes.
Late Night, in a Honeymoon Suite
"No...I didn't tell her." Jax mumbled quietly into the phone. "I
couldn't."
"Good." Jerry nodded. "So why don't you stop calling me and go on and
enjoy your honeymoon."
Jax sighed deeply. "She's sleeping right now, and we have things to
discuss..."
Keesha turned around in the bed, reaching over towards Jax. Her eyes flew
open as she grabbed for the empty space.
"...hold on. I thought I heard something." Jax placed the phone down and
got off the couch, walking over to the bed. He saw Keesha, still sleeping
peacefully and turned back around, going to the phone once more.
"Imagination. I'm getting paranoid." he teased, trying to lighten his
mood.
"You always were paranoid."
"I obviously always had reason to be." Jax reminded Jerry.
Keesha opened her eyes once more, listening to Jax as he mumbled quietly
into the phone. Whatever it was that was bothering him, it was bad.
Very bad.
And it had absolutely nothing to do with business. Of that she was sure
of. She knew the moment he dropped his eyes from hers that he was lying
about something. And that bothered her, because she couldn't remember Jax
straight out lying to her about anything. He could be vauge, and
sometimes he would just not answer, but he had never lied to her. Until
now.
Keesha sighed, closing her eyes once more. Obviously Jax didn't want to
tell her. That was his perogative. He didn't have to tell her
everything.
"...no I'm not letting this go!" Jax whispered harshly.
"Shh! Or you will awaken her."
Jax groaned, laying down on the couch once more.
Keesha sat up in the bed. "Jax?"
"Damn it....Coming!" he called to her. "I have to go." Jax hung up
without waiting for Jerry's goodbye. He walked back over to the bed.
"What's wrong?" Keesha watched as he sat down at the edge of the bed.
"That deal."
Once again his gaze dropped.
Keesha nodded. "Do you want to tell me about it?" she hoped. She hated
that something had Jax so upset and she had no idea what it could be.
"Not really. Really I would rather just forget the whole bloody thing."
"Well..." Keesha reached out, tilting his face back up to look into his
eyes. "I might be able to help with that." She smiled softly.
Jax returned her smile. "Yes...you are rather good at that." He reached
up stroking her cheek lightly. "I love you." he added quietly, leaning in
and kissing her gently.
"I meant..."
Jax kissed Keesha fiercely, interrupting her thoughts. When he was with
Keesha, everything was so perfect, all the imperfection of the rest of the
world didn't matter. And right now...
Jax managed to deepen their kiss and Keesha shuddered slightly. She broke
off the kiss, trying to catch her breath. The feel of his kiss still
lingered upon her lips and as she looked into his eyes, their blue eyed
promise of the passion that could come, threatened to make her forget
everything she had wanted to ask him.
But in Jax's eyes, behind the need, and the love that shone, was pain.
Something was hurting Jax badly and Keesha needed to know what it was.
She cleared her throat and tried again. "Jax, I am worried about
you...and if I can help you deal with whatever is bothering you, I want
to. But, I need for you to open up and..."
Jax placed his finger on her mouth. "No..." he whispered, his eyes
pleading with her to hear his answer. Keesha glanced down and then looked
back up into his eyes once more. She kissed his finger and drew his hand
down from her lips. "You are all I need, Keesha. I just want to love
you, and be with you and..." She watched as he reclined into the bed. He
took her hand, waiting. Keesha ran her free hand through her hair,
sighing softly. She shifted over, resting her body on top of his, looking
down into his eyes. Jax reached up, pushing her hair back from her face.
She leaned over and kissed him lovingly.
And once again, everything was perfect.
"I think we should have six children."
Keesha sat up in the bed. "Are you insane?"
Jax laughed. "I can be bargained down to two..."
"Oh, quiet." Keesha laid down once more, resting her head against his
chest. "Can I ask you something?"
"Nothing is bothering me..."
"No. I mean...are...are you happy?"
"I just said nothing is bothering me."
"I mean in general. You've had one hell of a year, Jax. And you've lost
a lot."
"I gained more." Jax stoked Keesha's hair, closing his eyes.
"I love you for saying that..."
"You love me anyway," he smiled.
"Yes." she answered honestly. "But...don't you...aren't there things you
miss?"
"You mean my family?"
"Of course." She looked up into his face.
Jax opened his eyes. "I have you, and I have Jerry, and I even have my
Mum in ways. Then of course, there's our adoptive mother Mrs.
Sellers...I'm sorry."
Keesha rested against his chest again. "Why? Mrs. Sellers has been very
kind to us."
"Yes but...Tiffany..."
"Tiffany raised me. She's my mother. That's that."
"Keesha..."
"Stop changing the subject."
Jax sighed. "I have all of the family I need. And yes, in general, I am
very happy. Happier than I ever thought possible."
"But sometimes..."
"I don't live in sometimes. I live in now." Jax closed his eyes again.
Keesha shut hers, running her fingers across his stomach as she listened
to the sound of his heartbeat.
