The Road to Destiny: Chapter 36
Jax continued to remind himself to breathe as the intense silence of the
hall amplified the sound of his heart pounding against his chest. After
what seemed like an eternity the music to the Wedding March began to play,
softly, on the grand piano in the corner. Jax felt the butterflies in his
stomach explode.
"Breathe." He barely heard his brother tease with a whisper.
"I'm fine," he answered somewhat harshly. And then he turned to look.
Jax's breath caught in his throat as he watched Keesha slowly make her way
towards him. The music faded into the back of his mind as she drew
nearer, her simple sleeveless white satin gown flowing behind her.
Keesha stopped next to Jax, drawing a deep breath as she stared at him,
her eyes glowing with love.
Later in an airport
Who in the world would be calling him now? Jax glanced over at
Keesha-she was still sleeping peacefully, resting against his shoulder.
"What?" he answered the phone in a harsh whisper.
"It's about Dad. Our suspicions were correct. Seems Keesha's mother's
lawyer...is someone that Dad hired, and he did get her a good deal.
After...after he found out about it. He went digging and that's what he
found."
"Is that all?"
Jerry sighed again. "The coroner was paid a visit by one of
Dad's...helpers...a few months ago. Which makes me think that maybe Dad
sat on the information. Until your wedding day."
"Knowing that there wouldn't be a wedding," Jax finished Jerry's thought.
"Damn him..."
"I should have waited..."
"Why? I'm not going to let him ruin my honeymoon. I'll handle him
later..."
"What about Keesha?"
"What about her?"
"Does she know of your suspicions?"
Jax shook his head. "I wanted to be sure."
"So, are you going to tell her?"
"Eventually..."
"I wouldn't do that if I were you."
"You're not me. She has a right to know."
"Do the words information overload mean anything at all to you? She
just found out her mother, who isn't really her mother, killed her father
who according to you she absolutely adored and thought was close to
perfect. But now she finds out he was always cheating on his wife, she's
a..."
"Jerry..." Jax warned.
"She was born out of wedlock. How's that."
"Jerry I get the point..."
"And now her mother, or the woman who raised her is going to prison for
it. I think that's enough information for one lifetime don't you?"
Jerry hung up, leaving Jax with only the dial tone to listen too. Jax
hung up the phone.
Keesha stirred. "Do we leave yet?" she asked, her voice tired.
"Soon," Jax promised. He placed his phone back in his pocket. "Did I
wake you?"
Keesha yawned, shaking her head negatively. "Who in the world could you
be talking to anyway? You don't plan to work during our honeymoon, do
you?"
"No, Mrs. Jacks..." Jax grinned as Keesha's eyes lit up. "..I have no
plans of working during our honeymoon."
"Then who were you speaking to?" Keesha finally sat up straight.
"Jerry."
"About?"
Jax sighed deeply.
"Oh oh. It's bad. Do you need to share?"
Jax looked over at Keesha.
"Jax?"
