The Road to Destiny: Chapter 33

Early Morning Before Work Keesha pushed the cart down the aisle, stopping. She looked. All of these different things. Perhaps she should just go to the doctor... She sighed. Why waste a doctor's visit, when she could find out in a matter of minutes. Keesha picked up the pregnancy test off the shelf and threw it into the cart.

"Cameron...Cameron...." Hilary followed as Cameron stormed down the hall of Anders Enterprises. He threw open Jax's door.

"It's fine." Jax stated to Hilary as he continued to face the window.

"Yes Sir..." Hilary closed the door, leaving Jax and Cameron alone.

"You Bastard!"

"At least I left you enough to live on, if it hadn't been for the fact that Keesha owed you money, you wouldn't have even had that." Jax finally swivelled around to face Cameron. "Notice, the exact amount remaining is exactly how much she owed you. Therefore, she's no longer is in your debt and there should be no reason for you to ever contact her again." Cameron stared at Jax in awe.

"Good luck, I hope you find rebuilding fun. Now get out of my office."

Keesha watched as Cameron left Jax's office, slamming the door behind him. He breezed past her without a word. She went over and knocked.

"Now what?"

Keesha opened the door. "What was that about?"

Jax looked up, smiling. "Business with some pleasure thrown in. By the way, I paid off Cameron..."

"What?"

"He has received the money you owe him, so you no longer owe him anything."

"But now I owe you something..."

"Go on, pay me back if you want..."

"And you will *cash* the checks, right?"

Jax smirked. "Maybe. It depends on my mood." "Jax..."

"Yes, I will cash your checks. So when can I expect my first installment?" he teased.

"Not for awhile." she grinned. "I kind of used money I saved up for Cameron for your birthday gift..."

Jax laughed.

"That's not funny. It's completely irresponsible...."

"I know...and the fact that you, the queen of responsible, love me enough to do such a thing, is very very adoreable."

"Ha Ha...."

"Where do you want to go for lunch?"

"Actually, I'm having lunch with Hilary."

Jax nodded. "Don't forget we have a meeting at 4:00."

"Allright." Keesha finished. She leaned up against the doorway, watching as Jax went through the contract in front of him.

She loved Jax. Jax loved her.

But...a *baby*? They weren't ready for that...

Were they?

And his family would have a fit....

Not to mention who even knew how he would react? Of course, Keesha *knew* how he would react outwardly-he would say he was happy, and probably do something like ask her to marry him or something....

And to be honest, marrying Jax...

*Had* been on Keesha's mind lately, at least when she would let herself think that way...long before she realized she was late...

She was never ever late.

But Keesha would only want Jax to marry her if he wanted to marry her, not because she was the mother of his child...possibly...

After a moment he looked up at her. "Yes?"

"Nothing..." she managed to smile, coming back to reality. She would take the test when she got home and find out...why was she thinking about all of this now. "I love you."

"I love you too." Jax answered, watching as Keesha finally left, closing the door. "Okay..." he mumbled to himself, going back to his work.

Jax buzzed Keesha's office, waiting. He stood from his desk, hanging up the phone as he realized she was probably still at lunch. He walked across the hall, going into her office. He had to find that file. Jax sat down at Keesha's desk, looking through the materials on her desk...nothing. Rembering she locked all important files in her bottom drawer he pulled out his master key, opening it...

Jax froze, his mouth dropping open slightly.

A pregnancy kit?

That couldn't be right...He looked up, making sure the door was closed, before reaching inside, and picking up the box.

Sealed. She hadn't used it yet. Jax felt his heart begin to race. Keesha might be pregnant? "...no...and then what..." Keesha's muffled voice came closer.

Jax threw the box inside, locking and the drawer and pretending to look at the files on Keesha's desk.

"Okay..." Keesha opened the door. She waved at Hilary and walked inside. "Hi..." she said cautiously. "What are you doing in here?"

Jax stared at Keesha.

She could be pregnant. Right now she could be pregnant with their child...

And though he should be frightened at the possibility, because they had never even talked about it, it was all he could do to keep from grinning from ear to ear...to keep from begging her just to take the test now so they would know...

Where would be the perfect place to celebrate? "Jax?"

"Oh...sorry, you just look so beautiful, I lost my train of thought." Keesha smiled softly, embarassed by Jax's compliment. "Thank you." "I'm looking for the Matricks file..."

"Andre has it, he's going over the accounting." "Oh. Okay..." Jax stood, moving over to Keesha. "What do you say we go home early?" he prodded.

"We can't. We have that meeting, remember And then you have another one at six." she gave him a quick kiss. "I have work to do...so...." she pushed him gently towards the door.

"I get it...I get it..." Jax left the office, closing the door behind him.

"I got it..." he finished to himself, a devilish smile growing across his lips.

Keesha packed her work to take home. Jax was at another meeting, which was good, because it gave her time to get home and find out if she was pregnant before she had to face him...if she had to. She opened her desk drawer.

She could have sworn that she had the box in wrong side up... Keesha shook her head. She must be losing it. She took the kit and placed it in her bag, leaving the office. Evening

"Hello?" Jax answered his cellular.

"I've moved out."

Jax stopped walking, remaining in the hallway which lead to his apartment door. "Why Jerry?"

"Does that mean you care?"

Jax sighed. "No..." he started to hang up.

"Wait!...Jax?"

"What?"

"Because you were right about Dad...but I had nothing to do with that..."

"Right..."

"You don't believe me?"

"No, and I have to go now..."

"Wait!"

"Make it fast! I have something to do..."

"You're going to ask Keesha to marry you, aren't you? I know because Dad is having you watched, and I'm having him watched...anyway, you spent your lunch hour looking at engagement rings. Right?"

Jax was quiet. "Thanks for the heads up, I'll have to be more careful..." he said finally.

"You should do that. So can I see you?"

"You think that because you say you didn't have anything to do with it, and back it up telling me that John's having me tailed, means I'm supposed to trust you? Get real."

"Jax...Jax!"

*click*

"....damn it!" Jerry tossed the phone down.

"I'm home..." Jax walked into the condominium.

"Hi!" Keesha looked up from the sofa. "Are those for me?"

Jax closed the door, going towards her. He handed her the two dozen roses. "Of course."

"They're beautiful...thank you..."

Jax sat down on the sofa, next to Keesha, waiting for her to say they had to talk or something.

"There you go again, looking at me like you're waiting for something."

Jax stared into her eyes, looking for some sort of sign that she was going to tell him they were having a child. "Maybe."

Keesha leaned over, kissing Jax softly. "What are you waiting for?"

Jax pulled away. "Who knows..." he stood from the couch. "But I do know where I want to take you tonight...so...why don't you go in and change into something...luscious...and I will wait here."

"Luscious? But we're going out?" Keesha teased.

"Yes, we are going out." Jax walked over to the fireplace. She wasn't pregnant. She would have said something by now had she been pregnant....

"Jax?"

Jax turned, looking at Keesha. Of course, realizing that she wasn't, made Jax even more aware of what he wanted to do. "What's on your mind?"

Jax walked over to Keesha slowly. He took her hand as he closed the space between them. He brushed his lips across hers, kissing her deeply. And against the soft sweet heaven of her lips, his words just flowed out. "Marry me."

Keesha's eyes flew open and she pulled away, in shock. Did Jax....Suddenly the odd ends of the day began to make sense. "I'm not pregnant...so you don't need to marry me now..."

"Keesha..."

"That explains why you've been looking at me like you have all afternoon, and why the test was right side up instead of...you thought I was pregnant and so you decided to propose...but I'm not, so you don't have to do that....okay?"

"Okay." Jax nodded. "I completely understand."

Keesha breathed a sigh of relief. "Okay....Jax..." she watched as he moved past her. "...what are you..."

This wasn't going like he had planned it.

Jax walked over, dimming the hologen lamp in the living room, turning off all the other lights.

But nothing with Keesha went the way he planned it.... He wanted the ambiance to be perfect.

Jax looked into Keesha's eyes once more, staring at her as she still held the red roses in her arms.

Yet, how more perfect could things be?

He came back to her slowly, marvelling at how the light from the fire in the fireplace framed her face, and made her even more and more beautiful as he drew nearer.

Or maybe that was just love.

Jax maintained eye contact as he slowly got down on one knee, producing the ring from his pocket. He looked down for a moment, gathering his nerve.

"Keesha, I love you..." he looked back up into her eyes. "I love you..." he repeated, stopping as his voice broke. He took a breath and his eyes teared. He cleared his throat before continuing. "I want you, I need you, and I love you more than words can say...And I would be very honored, if you would...allow me to dedicate my life to yours..."

Keesha's own eyes began to tear as Jax looked down, slowly opening the ring box. He raised his head, staring up into her eyes once more. "Keesha Ward, will you please marry me?" Jax waited, the butterflies in his stomach exploding as Keesha looked at silently.
