The Road to Destiny: Chapter 32

"Hey!" Jax snapped at Bridget. She glanced up from her magazine, looking at him. "What?" "Bathroom." "What?" "I have to use the bathroom." "Oh right...I'm not falling for that..." "Damn it Bridget...you have a *gun*. What am I going to do? Run...I just need to face the wall. And I can't do that with my right hand cuffed like this. Just switch hands for me, can you at least do that?" Bridget stared at Jax for a moment. Yes, she did have the gun...and there was no where for him to run. "Okay." she decided. "As long as you don't think I'm bluffing. I will use this gun if I have to." "Just Hhurry..." Bridget walked over to Jax, telling him to remain seated as she walked over to the pipe he was restrained to, pulling the key out of her pocket. "Hello?" "Jerry, it's Keesha...Jax is in trouble." Jerry sat up in the bed. "What kind of trouble?" Keesha continued to pace the condominium as she spoke to Jerry, explaining to him quickly everything she knew. "Maybe he's on his way to San Francisco..." "His car is still in the lot." she answered calmly as she continued searching the apartment, looking for any kind of a clue to what might have happened to Jax. She had to remain calm, because if she thought too hard about this and panicked she would be of no use to Jax. And he needed her.... Jerry finished dressing, taking the phone off speaker mode. "Okay...you stay there, in case he calls. I'm going to look for him. I have an idea on who's behind this..." "Well, hell, *I* have an idea on who's behind this. But Cameron won't budge..." "I'm not talking about Cameron. And don't alert the police yet...Keesha?" "You call me within 30 minutes, or I am for sure calling the authorities." she decided, hanging up on Jerry. Bridget cocked her gun, pointing it at Jax. "Stand...slowly..." Jax did what she said and she pulled him over to the other side of the pipe. "Okay...give me your hand...slowly..." Slowly Jax rose his hand, handing it to her. Bridget took it and began to place his hand back into the cuff. Quickly Jax spun around, kicking Bridget legs hard and tripping her. She fell back, the gun knocked out of her hand, going off. Jax joined her on the floor. Jerry sat in Jax's office chair, using that phone to dial. He continued searching through the drawers as the phone rang. Jax looked up at the sound of the muffled ringing coming from Bridget's purse. He saw the gun and grabbed it, turning his attentions back to Bridget. She moaned, holding her head. "GET UP!" he snapped, yanking her up. He led her over to the purse, taking the phone out of it. "Answer!" Bridget groaned in defeat, taking her cellular phone. "Yes..." Jax took the phone, waiting. "Bridget...." Jerry? Jax hung up the phone. "How do we get out of here..." "BRIDGET! WHAT..." Jerry slammed the phone down. He went through Jax's rolodex, pulling out Cameron's home address. Keesha dove for her phone. "JAX?!" she prayed. "Yes..." Keesha breathed a sigh of releif. The alleviating worry threatening to unleash a waterfall of tears. "Where are you? Are you okay?..." she managed to keep her voice calm. "I'm on my way to San Francisco..." "No...I'm back here..." Bridget gasped as Jax made a sharp u-turn in her rental car. "Then I'm on my way to drop someone off at the police station and then home." "Are you okay?" Keesha repeated. "Yes...I'm okay. Are you?" "I'm a lot better now...hurry back...please." "I will..." "Oh, Jax...you should call Jerry, because I called him when I didn't know where you were...Jax?" "I'll handle it. As for you, stay in the apartment and don't tell anybody anything...in fact, don't answer the phone. And most definitely do not let anyone in. Allright?" Keesha nodded. "Okay...just..." "I'm hurrying." he promised. "Keesha?" "Yes, Jax?" "I love you." he finished, hanging up. "But..." "Shut up!" Jerry barked. "Call her again." Cameron dialed Keesha once more, handing Jerry the phone. It had been 45 minutes, she must have called the police by now. And since there was no answer she probably had gone looking for him herself. Jax opened the door to the condominum. "Hey!" he laughed as Keesha ran to him, hugging him tightly. "Happy Birthday..." her voice broke as the tears started to fall. "I was so worried..." Jax managed to hold Keesha even closer. "I'm okay..." he promised. "And my birthday was yesterday..." he smiled, burying his face in her hair. "What happened to you?!" she pulled back, wanting to get a better look at him. Jax wiped the tears from her face. He kissed her lips gently before walking in and closing the door. "Somone hit me from behind, and I woke up, handcuffed in some abandoned building...with Bridget standing guard." "Bridget?!" Jax sat down on the couch, rubbing the back of his head. "She was working for my father." "Your..." Keesha sat down next to him. She reached up, running her fingers softly through the back of his haead, checking. Jax winced as she found a bump. "I'm sorry..." she whispred. She withdrew her hand. "I know you haven't bothered to go to the hospital." "You told me to come home." he teased. "It will be fine." "You're going to the hospital." she commanded, standing. "Not now...I have this damn headache." Keesha merely stared at him, waiting. "Which is exactly why I should go." he finished her thought out loud. "Okay...you win." "Bridget." Jerry ordered Cameron to call. "I don't *know* any Bridget." he swore. "I don't know what you're talking about...." Cameron's eyes shut with a wimper as Jerry placed the gun at his temple. "I will *tell* you once more. Call her up and tell her to let my brother GO!" Keesha left the hospital room as Jax changed back into his clothes. She reached in her purse, dialing. "Jax?!" Jerry answered his phone. "Jerry...Jax is okay...I told him to call you...." Keesha looked over shocked as Jax took the phone. "I never knew you would stoop this low." Jax's voice was cold. "What are you talking about?" Jerry uncocked his gun, and Cameron watched him leave the house. He ran over to the phone. "Hold on..." Jerry peaked back in. "Sure...call the cops. I know all about your little chat with Keesha...you know the one. Where you held her against her will. Aside from setting Jax up...so why don't you just go on and call the cops." he left once more. "I'm back." "Nice try Jerry. I'm not buying. You were in on it....Do you just do whatever John tells you?!" "What are you talking about? Never mind, just tell me, are you okay..." "Let me guess how this works. This was some sort of test, for Keesha." "Jax..." Keesha began. Jax held up his hand to Keesha, interrupting her. He continued talking to his brother. "I left her everything, and you know that. You're betting that she knows this, so why not have her think that perhaps I'm dead. What were you going to do? Have Bridget hold me there, until Keesha thought I must be dead...or gone...or whatever." "Are you insane!" "I'm just getting started...Keesha has the authority to sign for me. That means she has access to the Anders Corportate Account. So that means that she can dip into it, which she did, to get back here. Now John can get her on illegal use of corporate funds, meanwhile John can tell me that he *told* me so. Either way she loses. If she assumes I'm dead and collects from under the will, then I come back and lo and behold she's proven to be the gold digger he predicts. And if she used every means to get back here...which she did, you can get her for that. By the way, I've already wired the reimbursement funds...so tell your father to go to hell-and while you're at it, book yourself a trip." Jerry stood in absolute shock, the dial tone ringing in his ear. "Hello?" John mumbled. "I have a question Dad. Did you know that Jax has left Keesha everything under his will." "Yes. I bet she knows." "Right. And you know that she has authority to sign for him...giving her access to the Anders Corporate Account." "Of course I know that. Where is this going Jerry?" "So, did you pay Bridget off to keep Jax from Keesha? To test her, see what she would do...knowing that anything she did, you would use against her?" Silence. "So he was right." "Who was right?" "Jax is out. He figured everything out." John shook his head at Jane, who was wondering what was going on. He left the bedroom. "Damn it...okay...Jerry...Jerry....!" Jerry disconnected, getting into his car and driving away. "Jax...I'm telling you, Jerry went looking for you...he was really worried..." "And he told you not to call the police right?" Silence. "So that would give him and my...and *John* time to figure out what to do now. They set you up. They set both of us up." Jax started to leave the bed. "No...I'll get it. You stay there." Keesha left the bedroom. She went over to the door, peaking through the hole. "What?" she opened it, glaring. "I need to see Jax." "He's sleeping." "So?" "So, he's been through hell and now he's resting! Why don't you call next time." she closed the door on Jerry. Jerry darted across the street. He turned and looked up at Jax's apartment. Jax stared at Jerry throiugh the window. Jerry returned his stare. Until with one tug on a string, Jax lowered the shades and Jerry watched the light go out.
