The Road to Destiny: Chapter 22
Jax immediately began to go after Keesha, but after a split second he
stopped, turning on his heels and storming right into Tiffany's room.
"What did you say to her?"
Tiffany looked away from the window. "Mr. Jacks..."
"What did you say to her?" he repeated, his tone deep, his eyes cold as
ice.
Tiffany blinked, lowering in the bed. "I don't know what you're talking
about."
Jax cut his eyes at her, forcing himself to take a deep breath as his
anger threatned to consume him. "Let's get something straight. I don't
know what your problem is, but when Keesha is upset, that makes me
angry. And trust me, I can be a real bastard when I am angry. So I
suggest you get over...whatever and get over it now. You call her up,
and apologize, and hope that she forgives you, because if she doesn't I
will make it my life's work to make sure you never see her again."
"I..."
"I just saw a look in your daughter's eyes that would cause any parent
to explode. But you were the one that put that look there. And you
will fix it. And I'll tell you this, I will never, ever see her in so
much pain again...even if that means you spend the rest of your life here
alone, never to see her again. Do you understand me?"
Tiffany stared, watching as Jax left. She sank further down in the bed,
her heart racing in fear. She looked at the phone and reached over,
picking it up slowly.
Keesha slammed her front door, tossing her keys on the table. Her mother
had a temper, she reminded herself. She knew her mother had a temper so
she had to remember not to take what she had said seriously. Keesha
started to pace as her thoughts continued, none of them really
registering.
"My mother hates me," she concluded, sitting on the couch as her eyes
filled with tears yet again. "No." She took a deep breath. It wasn't
worth crying over. She would just call Jax, let him know she was alright
and then go to bed. She walked over to the phone and noticed the
answering machine light blinking, telling her she had messages. 3 to be
exact. Probably all from Jax.
"Keesha...baby..."
Keesha froze as her mother's voice came over the machine. Her mother's
timid voice. A voice she never heard before.
"...I'm sorry...I'm really really sorry...I just...I'm sorry, I shouldn't
have said those things, I didn't mean them...and I promise I won't ask you
for anything else again..." her voice broke and she could hear her mother
crying. "...just call me...please Keesha..."
The other two messages were also from Tiffany, the last one so panicked
that Keesha immediately picked up the phone dialing the home.
"...okay?" Tiffany asked. "You forgive me?"
"You're the only mother I have." Keesha sighed.
"That means no."
"That means you're the only mother I have. We'll get past this."
"So when can I see you?"
"I don't know I have to go...I need to call somebody." Keesha hung up.
She picked up the phone and dialed.
"Keesha?"
"Hi."
Jax breathed a sigh of relief. "How are you?"
"Better. Thanks. I didn't mean to worry you....and thank you for giving
me space. I half expected you to be right behind me."
"You said leave you alone, so I did. You're extremely good at telling me
to buzz off." Jax smiled as Keesha laughed. "How are you really?"
"I just got off the phone with my mother...she apologized. That's a first
and probably a last."
Jax nodded. "You accepeted?" he asked cautiously.
"She's the only mother I have. What else is there to do. I think I'll
stay away from her for awhile."
"Sounds like a good idea...what?"
"What, what?"
"You just sighed. What?"
"You're going to laugh if I tell you."
"Then it's now necessary that you tell me. I like laughing at your
expense."
"Really cute."
"Thank you." He grinned.
"I miss you...." she whispered.
"What?" Jax was taken aback.
"I miss you...I...need to see you...I wish you were here. I told you to
leave me alone, but I wish you were here. How's that for unclear."
"I am there."
"No, don't come now. I'll see you tomorrow..."
"No, Keesha. I am already there."
Keesha stood from her couch. "What?"
"Look outside your window."
She walked over to her living room window, pulling open the curtains.
There was Jax, leaning up against his car parked on the other side of the
street. "I don't believe this..." she whispered, mainly to herself. She
pressed the button disconnecting the cordless phone, opening the window.
"COME ON!" Jax yelled.
"WHERE?!"
"MY PLACE!"
Keesha grinned, shutting her window quickly. She ran back to her room to
grab a few things. She was taking things out of her dresser when there
was a knock on the door. "I'm packing as fast as I can..." she called,
opening the door.
Jax walked in. "Take your time." He followed her back to her bedroom.
"You know...I've never been in here. It's a mess."
"Shut up. Ready." She zipped up her bag, swinging it over her shoulder.
She walked over to him and kissed him sweetly. "Let's go..."
"More." He smiled into her eyes. She was definitely happier, but there
was still a sadness in there. A loneliness.
"More?" she grinned, reaching up for another kiss.
"Yes..." Jax took her bag, moving away from her. He needed time with her.
"Hey..." Keesha protested.
"You need more things than that. Why don't you pack enough for...I don't
know..."
"A few days?" she started going through her things.
"Longer." Jax sat down on the bed.
"A week?"
"Longer..."
"Okay." Keesha turned away from her closet. "You need to give me some
sort of indication..."
"Forever."
