The Road to Destiny: Chapter 21

Jax took a tie off the rack, putting it on as he walked slowly over to his bed, where Keesha slept. He bent over her carefully, whispering slowly in her ear. "Keesha...Keesha, you have to wake up..."

Keesha mumbled for a second before her eyes opened. "What time is it?" she yawned.

"7:00." Jax stood straight once more, walking over to the mirror.

"7:00?!" Keesha shot up in bed. "I'm supposed to be at work in half an hour...."

"Why? There's no meetings or anything."

"Yes, but...I'm always at work at 7:30."

"It's no big deal, that's what happens when you're part of the executive branch. You can go in late. I only woke you so you wouldn't throw a fit when you did get up and realize what time it was. I left you a key on the table...just lock up when you leave here." He went over to the bed, kissing Keesha gently.

"Where do you think you're going?"

Jax turned away from the door. "Oh, sorry. I love you." He smiled.

Keesha's eyes lit up. "Well, I love you too...but that's not what I meant...I mean honestly, where are you off too."

"Work. Someone should be there." he laughed.

"Now?"

"Yes..." Jax stared as Keesha stood from the bed, slowly gliding the sheet down off her body. His eyes darkened with passion as he looked at her, naked before him. "No...not now..." he decided quickly.

"Precisely when did this happen?" Hilary whispered to Keesha as Keesha waited for Jax to come so they could meet Jerry for lunch. "When did you and Jax start seeing each other."

"I can't really say."

"You won't tell me..."

"No, I can't really say. It's not as if one of us just one day asked the other out, it's a lot more complicated than that....besides, I'm obviously not the only one who's dating a Jacks, missy."

"Jerry...oh...." Hilary waved her hand dismissvely. "He's just fun..."

"I'll make sure to tell him so." Jax stated as he came up behind her.

"Stop gossiping about my brother." He grinned at Keesha.

"We were not gossiping about Jerry, we were actually gossipping about you."

"Then that's okay." Jax took her hand, leading her to the elevator.

Keesha watched him as they waited, realizing that nothing could be more perfect than it was now. She was in love with Jax and he was in love with her, and neither of them cared who knew it. Jerry would hopefully come around, and as for her mother, Keesha planned to see her tonight, and take a page out of Jax's book - lay things out clearly and demand that Tiffany leave Jax alone, or face the consequences.

"So...are you going to stay with the company." Jerry asked Keesha before taking a sip from his water glass.

"Perhaps."

"Perhaps?" Jax and Jerry asked in unison.

"Yes, I mean, I figure I should probably get a raise of some sort, after all I've done lately..." She winked over at Jax. "I need a new car you know..."

Jerry froze, staring at her. "Jax, why are you laughing?"

"He's laughing because I'm kidding...." Keesha smiled. "You really have to learn to take a joke, Mr. Jacks."

Jerry nodded, a smile playing around his lips. "Jerry. Mr. Jacks is my father."

This time Jax froze, staring at his brother.

"What?" Jerry cut into his steak. "You know...you should bring this lovely lady over for dinner tonight..."

"I can't. I'm seeing my mother this evening."

Jax looked over at Keesha. She was planning to see her mother?

"Really...well, then tomorrow night. I'm sure that the real Mr. Jacks would love to meet you."

"You think?" Jax asked cautiously, trying to read Jerry's mood.

"Sure. And if not, there's 2 of them...and three of us."

Keesha glanced at Jax. Did Jerry just relent..."I'll be right back." she stood, deciding to leave Jax with his brother.

"Did you just..."

"I like her. I hate to admit it, but I like her. I think after watching you last night...ow!" Jerry bent down, rubbing his leg from where Jax kicked him.

"That's for spying on us, bastard."

"I want to show you something." Jerry reached into his pocket. "While you were on the phone, I handed Keesha this."

Jax stared at the check. "You didn't..."

"Oh, yes I did. With a note attached...."

Jax reached out, taking the note and reading. "You promised to take care of her mother for the rest of her life?"

"And this brochure."

"To a home in Florida?" Jax kicked Jerry again.

"Ofr her mother. And I was going to offer to send her to Florida and put her up in a place as well...you know what happened, she took one quick look to see what I handed her, gave it right back...and didn't say a word to me and not even to you about it, which I actually figured she would." "Trying to get me angry at you."

"Yep. But she didn't say anything. I was surprised. But not really, I like this girl. So far. But you know what I hate?" "That I was right and you were wrong."

"No...the fact that I could turn out to be right. And if that's the case, you can be sure Keesha hasn't seen anything yet." Jerry promised. "Are you going to eat that..." he reached across the table, stabbing Jax's potato with his fork.

Evening

"Keesha...sit!" Tiffany sat up in the bed, happy to see her daughter. "Cameron told you, didn't he?"

"Cameron..." Tiffany waved her hand dismissvely. "He's not worth our discussing..."

"Why not? I thought Cameron was the best thing that ever happened to me." Keesha remained at the doorway, crossing her arms.

"Baby, sit down..." her mother watched as Keesha slowly came over, sitting in the chair right beside the bed. "I know you don't understand me sometimes, but I've lived longer than you. You're looking for some sort of perfect man, some man who is going to put up with all of your bull-headed stubborness, someone who won't get angry when you speak your mind, and all of that...but that man doesn't exist."

"Actually, I think one does. Now, granted he's not perfect I don't think, no one is...though he comes close. And you know what, the more I'm around him, the less bull-headed and stubborn I tend to be, because it's not necessary to be like that with him."

"You mean Jasper Jacks."

"Yes."

Tiffany's happiness grew. "This man is important to you?"

"He's everything to me."

"Oh Keesha..."

"Momma, I mean everything. That means I'm not giving him up for you, and that means you're going to leave him alone."

"Why would I want to bother Jasper?"

"Jax." Keesha sighed.

"What?"

"He goes by Jax."

"Maybe. But why? Jasper sounds so much more....regal, don't you think? It's a lot classier, and...."

"That's exactly what I mean. He goes by Jax, not Jasper-neither I nor he I imagine could care less about what name you think he should go by."

"Okay Darling. Jax it is."

"I wanted to tell you at lunch. You're moving out of here."

"Into the private wing..."

"No. I've found another home for you to stay it. I've checked it out, it's bigger than this one, nicer, and a little more expensive, so you should like it at least a little more."

"Will I have to deal with all of these....people?"

"Yes, there will be people for you to deal with. I can't afford to put you in the better more isolated area," she answered sarcastically. "I'm sorry."

"Well, what about Jax...why are you looking at me like that."

"I did not ask Jax for help, I am not going to ask him for help, because unlike when you needed the surgery, I am not desperate."

"That boy..."

"Cameron?"

Tiffany waved her hand dismissively once more. "Asking that boy was the right thing to do. Are you saying you're sorry you asked him to help me?"

"Of course not. I needed that boy...who has a name, his name is Cameron and if it wasn't for him you would never be able to walk at all...."

"Keesha, you take things so seriously."

"This is serious! I asked Cameron for help, because I needed help because I was worried about you, you're my mother and I love you tremendously. But I don't take handouts, I have been paying Cameron back ever since, and I will continue to pay him until he gets every last cent he's owed. Added, I have a place to pay for myself to live in...added that I send you money as often as I can so that you get to go out to the places you love to go to...added that I buy you things....and then you have the audacity to tell this home, without consulting me, that you will be moving?! I cannot afford to put you in a private wing, and you should know that, and I am not asking Jax to do it for me..."

"Why?"

"Because...I don't want to. How's that. You can't get everything you want, there was nothing wrong with this place, and there's nothing wrong with the new one, but all you care about is that you have to deal with people...I do the best I can by you, but no matter what it's never enough. But I'll tell you right now, I will not lower myself and ask Jax for help that is not needed. I won't put myself through it, and I won't dare insult our relationship by asking him... And you won't ask him either."

"You can't tell me what to do!"

"I just did. You're not going to ask Jax for anything. Ever. If you want something, tell me, and I will try and get it for you, but Jax and the rest of his family is off limits..." Keesha gasped, her eyes filling with tears as she reached up, touching her stinging cheek where her mother slapped her.

"Room 80. It's all the way down at the end of the hall."

Jax smiled, thanking the nurse. Keesha would probably be angry for a second that he came, but he wanted to make sure he was there in case she needed him.

"I am your mother, you ungrateful little bitch..." Tiffany lowered her voice, staring into Keesha's eyes. "I raised you and nurtured you and took care of you, and ran interference when Daddy wasn't too happy with his so-called Angel. Do not talk to me as if I don't matter, because family matters above all else, even some boy who will probably play with you, until he gets bored and then move on...do you honestly think you can keep someone like Jasper interested. Take it from me, men like that don't stay with women like us for very long...so you take them for what you can, for as long as you can. Now I want to be moved into the private wing. Jasper can do that for me, if you know what's good for you, you will have him do it. And while you're at it, why don't you make him buy you something nice to remember him by for when he's done with you and tosses you out like the little slut you are."

Keesha stood slowly, walking to the door.

"And if you don't move me where I want to go..."

Jax leaned away from the opposite wall as the door to room 80 opened. "...don't bother coming back here at all!"

Keesha shut the door, wiping her face of the tears that fell.

"Hey..." Jax came over to her quickly. "What happened..."

"Just leave me alone." she whispered, running down the hall.
