The Road to Destiny: Chapter 19

Keesha tilted her head at Jerry. "You know, you and Jax look nothing alike really."

"Pardon?"

"And seeing as how I work for Jax why don't we just let him fire me if he so chooses..."

"Now look here..."

"And I suggest we end this now because you're his brother and therefore I want to give you the proper respect of that relationship, but if you bother me or get in my way, I will be very glad to tell you what I think of you." The light changed and Keesha bolted across the street.

Jerry walked back into the restaurant, sitting down across from Hilary. Jax obviously needed space, he would just have to give it to him. As for Keesha, Jax was extremely angry right now and he was very good at handling unwanted pests when he was angry, Jerry remembered. "What happened?"

"Personal. Now, let's try that lasagna, shall we." Jerry smiled, snapping over to the waiter.

When Keesha got to the office, Jax was gone. She went to her office, grabbing her briefcase and starting to leave herself when she was stopped by Andre about a problem in accounting. With a sigh she put the briefcase back down and asked him for the file.

Jax walked into his condominium, slamming the door. He went over to the phone, unplugging it. Picking up the remote, he turned his stereo full blast and walked over to the bar, drinking a shot of burbon.

Why was he so angry?

He went over to the couch, taking the cannister with him. He had done the same thing when Jerry had asked-he had pretended Keesha was just a worker.

Difference was they hadn't made love yet. Now that they had, Jax knew there was no way he would have been able to just dismiss what Keesha meant to him, and the fact that she did it so damn easily...

Hurt.

He took another shot of burbon.

Keesha's eyes glazed over as she looked at the file in front of her. She sighed, glancing over at the phone. He was probably on the road somewhere. It seemed to her that whenever Jax needed to think he was on the road to somewhaere. She dialed Jax's cellular. No answer. She called his car. Still no answer. She called Mrs. Sellers, but she hadn't heard from him. After ending that conversation she finally started to try his place, but changed her mind mid-call, hanging up.

Jax looked over at the sound of the banging on his door. He stood, walking over and opening it. "I came to say goodbye."

Jax stared at Bridget blankly. He moved out of the way and she walked in. "What's wrong?"

Jax sat back down on the couch.

Bridget walked over, turning down the stereo. "Jax...what's wrong?" she repeated.

"Say what you came to say and then leave."

"Well, I'm leaving town..."

"How much this time?" Jax smirked.

"Pardon."

"Jerry or my dad must have got to you again, so how much were you worth this time...I have news for you, save your money this time. They won't be paying you again."

"I'm leaving because it's best for you...or so I thought. What's wrong?" she asked for the final time.

"Nothing you can help me with."

"Can I try?"

"No." Jax got up, walking to his bathroom.

"Jax?" Keesha called from behind his door, twirling flowers in her hand. "I know you're in there, because I can hear the music."

Bridget turned, walking towards the door.

"Jax, please let me in...I need to talk to you. I'm sorry okay, I didn't mean to hurt you...I would never want to hurt you, you're too...you're too important to me...I just..."

Bridget glanced back, hearing water running down the hall.

"Jax, I'm not leaving..." Keesha stepped back as the door opened. "Hi..." she said cautiously.

"You're looking for my fiance?" Bridget smiled.

"Ex-fiance."

Bridget was quiet. Whoever this woman was, she knew more than she figured Jax would share.

"Where is he?"

"Taking a shower." Bridget pointed back. "Oh my goodness, look at that..." she started buttoning her top again, placing the right ones in the correct holes. "I hate being in a rush."

Keesha's eyes clouded.

"Do you want to leave a message for him?" Bridget asked quickly as she heard the water turn off.

"No." Keesha turned, leaving and Bridget closed the door, walking away from it quickly.

"You're still here?" Jax noted, drying his face with his towel as his wet hair dripped slightly on his shirt.

"I wanted to make sure you were okay."

"I'm fine...just needed some water on my face...it was getting hot..."

"Perhaps you're coming down with something....there's a flu going around."

"Perhaps. You were saying goodbye." He went to the door, opening it. He froze, looking out into the hallway.

"What?" Bridget came up behind him.

Jax walked over to the small garbage can in the corner near the elevator, looking at the stems sticking out. He grabbed one and pulled it out, inspecting it. "These are new..."

"What?"

"Who brought these?"

"What?"

"They have to be for me since I'm the only one who lives on this floor..."

"I did, but I wasn't sure I should bring them and..."

Bridget watched as Jax ran down the stairs.
