The Road to Destiny: Chapter 12

"No...I am feeling under the weather." Jax lied. "Okay...next time." "Next time it is." Jax hung up on Matthew Norris, the president of Anders Enterprises. Jax had made plans to go golfing with him to try and size him up, and see whether there was room for J&J Enterprises to fully take over AE. But, he learned working there all week that Matthew was pretty much just decoration-leaving all the decisions to the vice president. Taking over AE would be no fun, it was better just to leave things as they were. But at least Jax didn't have to waste his entire Saturday playing golf. Golf had to be the most boring "game" Jax was ever forced to learn. Jax picked up the phone, planning to call Jerry and let him know he was free for the day, but while dialing he changed his mind, hanging up. Jax could think of much better ways to spend his Saturday...and Sunday for that matter. He picked up the phone again, dialing another number. "No...I don't think I can." Hilary spoke into Jerry's phone. "I'm so bored..." Keesha groaned on the other end. *Translation if I don't do something, I will go and see Jax*. she finished to herself. "Why not?" "I'm busy. Why don't you see if *Jax* is busy?" "This is me hanging up on you." Hilary laughed, laying back down and waiting for Jerry to get out of his shower. Keesha jogged over to the phone. "Change your mind?" "Yes." Keesha was quiet for a moment. "Jax." she finally said. "You don't sound happy to hear from me." "I thought we agreed." "I don't ever remember agreeing to anything. Besides, if I did, like I just said, I've changed my mind. I need to see you..." "Jax..." she sighed, exasperated. "Keesha...." he teased, smiling at her laugh. "Where?" "Does that mean you'll come?" "It means *where*." "In the town, outside from where Mrs. Sellers lives...there's a small restaurant right across from the bank...next to the movie theatre. Do you think you can be there tonight?" "Why tonight?" "Because, I want you to have plenty of time to think about whether you're going to come or not. Because if you come, there's no turning back...so...I'll be there at 6:30. I'll wait until 6:45, after that, I am gone. And I'm done." And without waiting for an answer, Jax hung up the phone. "You told her what?" "That she had until 6:45." Jax answered Mrs. Sellers as they shared tea on her porch. "Why don't you just tell her not to come? Haven't you figured her out yet? She is apt not to come just because you told her she had to be there..." "That's not what I told her. The whole purpose was to give her time to think about this. Yet, I need to know now. I like to be prepared, and if we're going to try...then we have at least two obstacles to overcome, and they won't be easy ones. I need to know what I'm in for and when..." "You're as bad as she is. First, you don't control these things, it just happens. It's either meant to be or it's not...that's not to say it's always easy, it's just to say that *knowing now* as you put it isn't going to make things any easier on either of you. It will be just as hard down the road as it will now. The only thing knowing now will do is show you how strongly Keesha feels...oh..." Mrs. Sellers nodded. "Why don't you just ask her?" "We're talking about Keesha here." Jax laughed. "Besides, I'm not sure she knows how she feels. Perhaps she needs a push to make her think. I know I needed one. Never mind, I didn't come here to talk about my romantic life, such as it isn't." "Jax, trust me. I want to hear. What do you mean you needed a push." Jax sighed. "I made a promise, that I'm not sure whether I was planning to keep or not...I made a promise not to see Keesha romantically. But then I saw her at work, and a minute later, I was on my way to breaking that promise. And ever since I've been thinking of the best way to make this work...and she told me last night, that perhaps it shouldn't. And in my head as she was saying the words, I thought, maybe she's right. This is too complicated. But then I watched her go to the door, and I knew right then and there, I was not just going to let her walk through it for probably the last time if I could help it. No matter what I have to do, I am willing to give this everything I have...but it wasn't until last night that I really realized that." "So now that you know, you need to know where you stand." "Yes." Jax took a deep breath. "I still say you should have just asked her." Mrs. Sellers stood, pouring herself more tea. "Are you sure you want to wait?" the waitress asked. Jax glanced at his watch. "Just a few more minutes." he mumbled. She left and he took a drink from his water glass. He shouldn't have done this. Just like Mrs. Sellers said, Keesha probably wasn't going to show merely because she had a deadline.... "If you ever pull a stunt like this again, I won't be responsible for my actions." Jax turned around, looking at Keesha. "You came." "Yes, I came. I'm angry as hell, but I'm not about ready to let my anger effect what...never mind." she walked over to her side of the table. "Effect?" Jax prodded. "Why am I here?" "Because I wanted to see you." "So then why here..." "Because I wanted to make sure we were on the same wavelength. Which I think is a very good reason...so though you're angry, we'll get past that." Keesha tilted her head, looking at Jax. "Really." she said flatly. He glanced around and leaned forward, beckoning her with his finger. Keesha leaned across the table cautiously. "Really." Jax promised. He took her face into his hands and pulled her closer, kissing her deeply. "*Ahem*." Jax pulled back and slowly Keesha's eyes opened. They both looked at the waitress. "Would you like to order?" "Later." they both answered in unison. "Okay." Keesha waited until she left. "You, Mr. Jacks, are way too sure of yourself." she hissed and Jax was taken aback. He blinked in shock as she continued. "You think just because you sit over there and stare at me with those baby blues that I am just going to melt and let you get away with distracting me with one of these..." Keesha pulled Jax back to her, kissing him passionately. "You have some nerve." she mumbled against his lips, kissing them one last time, softly. She sat back fully in her chair once more. "Jax?" she picked up her menu, opening it. Jax continued to gaze at her. He cleared his throat and finally sat back. "Yes?" he managed to answer. "Did you get whatever odd thing you were looking for when asking me to come here?" she looked over at him. "Yes." he nodded. "Good. Don't ever pull a stunt like this again." Keesha went back to reading the menu as Jax laughed. Shani
