Chapter 92
February
Miranda hadn't been mentioned by anyone. Jax quit working with Nikolas,
without giving him a reason as to why-and Nikolas could never find out
what happened to her on her own-soon he gave up. Mac took Dara's advice
and focused on the crime in Port Charles, leaving the feds to deal with
Miranda. And last Jerry had heard of or from Miranda was a few days after
he left her alone in San Francisco-as far as he knew Miranda had merely
disappeared, without his knowing where-as he finally got her to agree too.
"...I dropped Laurence off with Jerry and Bobbie." Jax stood from his
office chair as he spoke into the phone at Keesha. "I had a hunch this
deal might take a little longer than I originally expected....wow...." Jax
became entranced by the falling snow. "It's very pretty...Are you looking
outside at the snow..."
"Wow nothing. Come home now." Keesha sighed deeply, leaning down into
the sofa. She glanced at her watch. It was almost 8:00 at night. It was
too damn late and "It's too damn cold..." she added to herself with a
mumble.
"Someone's cranky." Jax teased.
"Yes, well you would be cranky too..." Keesha closed her eyes. "I'm..."
"Lovely." Jax stated seriously. "Each day you become more and more
beautiful...." Silence.
"Keesha?"
"I love you." she whispered.
"I love you too."
"When are you coming home..."
Jax laughed, shaking his head. "I'm on my way. I'll come straight there.
Laurence is staying over with his uncle."
Keesha leaned up against the kitchen doorway, trying to force herself to
eat the food she was carrying. It was odd. Since she became pregnant,
Keesha was more hungry than usual-but today, for some reason, the thought
of food made her want to be ill.
"You can feel free to come any day now." she patted her stomach. Between
the morning sickness and the the mood swings and the weight and the
cramps...Keesha sighed. Being pregnant had been nice, for about three
months. After that she kept wondering why it took nine whole long months
for this...
Miracle. Keesha smiled. Everything had gone all right this time. Maybe
Miranda was right about something.
Maybe the third time was the..
Keesha laughed as the baby kicked.
Charm.
"Did you forget your key?" Keesha walked over to the urgent knock at the
front door. It must be freezing outside for Jax to be so impatient. She
opened the door.
"I *really* have to learn to use the peephole." she muttered.
"Can I use your phone? My car died." Jason answered.
"Of all the houses on the block..."
"Yours is the third house I've tried. People are wary of letting us in."
Jason motioned to his bodyguard.
"Imagine that." Keesha said even as she moved out of the way to let Jason
in. "There's coffee in the kitchen. Feel free to have some."
The bodyguard looked at Jason and Jason nodded. He left leaving Jason in
the living room with Keesha. She pointed to the phone and with a simple
thank you he walked over to the desk.
"What's wrong with your cellular?"
"In this weather...Carly..." he added into the phone.
Keesha glanced at her watch. Hopefully Jason would finish soon. The last
thing Jax needed to see when he came home was Jason Morgan in his living
room.
"I should go." Jax kissed Laurence's cheek one last time. Jerry leaned
up against the doorway, watching. "I told Keesha I was coming straight
home." Jax reluctantly placed Laurence back in the play pen. Laurence
smiled at Jax. Jax grinned and waved and Laurence held up his hand, his
little fingers opening and closing slowly. Laurence laughed and then
reached over, picking up the bear his uncle had bought him that afternoon.
"Why aren't you taking Laurence with you?"
"Because I want to spend some time alone with Keesha. Things have been
really hectic lately."
"Yes. I'm sure worrying about her takes up most of your time."
Jax looked over at Jerry's words.
"Do you want to talk about it?"
"No time." Jax sighed.
"You know...it's okay to worry. I would worry if you didn't."
Laurence laughed and Jax looked over at him. "What's so funny?"
But Laurence went on playing with the bear, not paying Jax any attention.
"I like that kid." Jerry chuckled. "And I'm going to like this one." he
added seriously.
Jax turned his attention back to Jerry.
"You've made it this far-everything will be just fine." he promised his
younger brother. Jax nodded. "It's just..."
"I know."
Again Jax nodded. Jerry always knew. Without the words, Jerry always
knew. He always knew what to say and what not to say. He always knew
what Jax was thinking and when he was scared or worried or..."She's due
next week." Jax smiled.
"Know that too."
"Her doctor is really good...and usually Monica sits in and talks to us
afterwards...I think Keesha likes hearing things from Monica. She trusts
Monica. You know..." Jax sat down on the floor and Jerry slid down the
wall, not breaking eye contact as he joined him. "...Keesha gets these
far away looks in her eyes, and I can tell that she's worried. The first
time she got sick in the morning, I could tell she was
worried...but...then she just snaps herself out of it without a word and
goes about her day."
"Sounds like you."
"Yea...maybe. I've been to every check up...I'm sure she thinks it's for
her, and it is...mostly. But..."
"You want to hear for yourself."
"Exactly. I want...I *need* to know that everything and everyone will be
okay."
"And it will." Jerry watched as Jax's gaze dropped to the floor. He
didn't know what he would do if something happened now... "Trust me."
"Trust you?" Jax laughed, and the tension was broken.
Jax waited at the stop light. He was almost home, thankfully. It was
really starting to snow hard-and he didn't like the idea of Keesha being
at home by herself. He groaned-he shouldn't have gotten so wrapped up in
that stupid business deal-he could have been home hours ago.
"I'm working from home..." he decided on the spot.
Of course, that meant he would get nothing done, he smiled to himself.
Jax pulled up into the driveway, shutting off the engine. He took a deep
breath. Jerry was right-everything was fine. They had come too far for
anything to happen now...
"I told you not to worry, didn't I?" Jax sat down at the edge of the bed,
looking down into her eyes.
"Yes...you just know all I see." Keesha teased, reaching over and
tickling Jax's side. He grabbed her hand, lacing their fingers.
"I love you." he whispered quietly, reaching over and kissing her softly.
Jax pulled back, grinning as Keesha smiled up at him. "Monday is a busy
day for you I know...You can go back to work now." she yawned.
"Okay..." Jax reached out, playing with her hair as Keesha closed her
eyes.
Jax bent down, resting his head against Keesha's chest as she slept
peacefully. He closed his eyes, listening to the slow beating of her
heart. Jax trailed his fingers ligtly down Keesha's side, reaching over,
his hand going underneath her shirt, resting on her stomach.
Jax's eyes shot open as a small kick reached his fingers.
"Jax..." Keesha looked down. "Did...did..." her voice shook.
"I felt it..." Jax smiled. "He moved..."
"She moved...or maybe we're imagining things..." Keesha sat up in the
bed, Jax's eyes following her.
Jax pulled her hand down, resting it against her stomach. They stayed
frozen like this for what seemed to be an eternity...and then, once again
a small kick was felt. Jax grinned as Keesha's eyes lit up. "Jax...He's
kicking..." she breathed, tears filling her eyes. "Jax..."
"I know." Jax placed his hand on her stomach again. "She's kicking..."
Jax walked up the porch, taking out his key and opening the front door.
"Keesha..." his smile faded, his eyes darkening as Jason's bodyguard stood
in the doorway. "Move..." Jax pushed his way past. "What is...Keesha..."
"It's okay..." Jason said calmly as Keesha squeezed his hand, the intense
contraction ripping through her body. "Breathe with me..." he coached.
Jason looked over as Jax ran, kneeling next to him on the floor in front
of the couch. Jason let Keesha's hand go.
"Jax..."
"I'm here..." Jax tightened his grip on Keesha's hand.
"They just started...they're about twenty minutes apart..." Jason began to
fill Jax in.
Keesha took a deep breath as the pain finally started to subside. She
opened her eyes, reaching out and touching Jax's face. "It's fine." she
said to the worry in his eyes.
"Are you comfortable?"
"No." Keesha answered honestly with a laugh. "But it's much better
now..."
"So the contraction is over?"
"Yes...and you're here." she added softly.
"I suggest you take her to the doctor now before the roads close." Jason
added. "Thanks." he finished to Keesha, leaving the Jacks house and
closing the door behind him.
"What was he doing here?"
"His car broke down and he needed to use the phone. I was the only one
who actually would let him in."
"Well for once I'm glad he was around."
"Yes...I suppose he's good for something." she smiled.
"I'm going to run upstairs and get your things, and then we're going to
go."
"Okay..."
Keesha watched as Jax ran up the stairs. Her smile faded and she closed
her eyes.
"They will be here soon." Jason hung up the phone.
"Okay." Keesha waited. She wanted to kick him out, but...she sighed
sitting down on the couch. It was cold out, and the least she could do
was offer him a place to stay. He had saved her life.
"Everything is okay?" Jason asked.
"Yes." Keesha answered cautiously. "Why?"
"You owe me."
Keesha blinked. "For what...saving me..."
Jason waved his hand. "I've been paid back for that. I mean for the
other favor I did for you."
"What other favor."
"The FBI stopped bothering you, didn't they?"
"What?"
"Who do you think arranged that?"
"How..."
"You always did ask too many questions. That's why I never liked you.
How is not important. Luke asked for my help, and I gave it to him. And
now you owe me."
"Owe you what..."
"Keesha?" Jason ran over as she gripped the edge of the couch tightly,
her eyes closed in pain.
"Ready?" Keesha looked up as Jax started down the stairs again.
"The roads are closed."
"What?"
"The roads are closed..." he repeated, picking up the phone and calling
Keesha's doctor. Jax sat down next to Keesha taking her hand as they
waited for her to pick up.
