Chapter 83

Keesha turned as the phone rang. She went inside the house, closing the door. "Jacks residence." "Keesha...hi. How are you?" "I'm fine, Mac. How are you?" "I'm okay...are you sure?" "Wow. News travels fast in this town." Keesha mumbled. "But things are fine." "Is Jax there?" "No, and I don't expect him for awhile. Do you want to leave a message for him?" "Uh..." Mac sighed. "No. Actually, I think it would be best if I talk to you directly." "About what?" "I think someone set Miranda up." Keesha was quiet. "You don't think she killed Sonny and Hannah." "No actually I don't. This came to easy." "Too easy? Jax was your number one suspect, you arrested him, it came out you were wrong, then AJ was your number one suspect and obviously you were wrong about that...I don't think this was easy at all." "Ever since Miranda came into town we've found bits and pieces of evidence pointing to her...it's just too easy. I think she was set up. And I know that you don't care, but if Miranda didn't do it then the person is still out there and it's only a matter of time before they cause more trouble." "What does this have to do with me?" "Because she keeps pointing the finger at you." "Me?" "Not Jax, Jerry of course not...but she has been screaming that you have it in for her." "She doesn't believe that." "She tried to hire an investegtor because she was afraid of you." "Oh you must be kidding!" "I'm not...Keesha, if you were involved in this you need to tell me now." "You think I would kill Sonny and Hannah and then have the audacity to put the person I love most in the world through hell by letting him be arrested for it?!" "No. I don't think you killed Sonny and Hannah. But I think it's possible you set Miranda up to take the fall for whoever did do it. Perhaps you didn't want AJ to go through what Jax did." "I wouldn't set someone up for AJ. And I didn't set Miranda up...." "Someone did." "Or Miranda killed Hannah and Sonny and you just don't want to face that fact. I've talked to you long enough..." "Keesha. I'm just doing my job. Someone has it in for Miranda, and I won't rest until I figure out who it is." Mac hung up. "Thank you." Deidre smiled as Jax held the door open for her. "I see things haven't changed much." she sat down on the couch. "I guess it depends on how you look at things." "Is the restroom still in the same place." "You know where it is." Jax continued to grin at Laurence. Deidre got up and went down the hall. "Jax..." Keesha called as she bounded down the stairs. "Mac..." she froze. Jax turned his attention away from his son. "Keesha, this is Laurence. Laurence, this is Keesha." Laurence grinned as Keesha continued to stare. Jax looked at her. "I should have called..." "No." Keesha blinked, smiling. "I just was...he's...he has your eyes." "You really think so?" "No doubt about it." Deidre agreed as she came back in. "Hi, I'm Deidre." "Keesha...nice to meet you. I'm...I'm going to go and leave you three alone." she decided, heading to the hall closet for her coat. "Where are you going?" "To GH. Bobbie is working the late shift, I think I'll grab something and treat her to a decent meal. Maybe I'll catch a movie..." Jax handed Laurence to Deidre. "Give me a minute." he said. "Keesha, can I talk to you?" Deidre watched as they went upstairs. "I should have called." "Why?" "Because obviously you're upset." "I'm not upset." she answered truthfully. "I just want to give you three some time alone, that's all." "Are you sure that's all." "Positive. So go on down and I'll see you later tonight." she kissed him quickly and went back downstairs. "It was nice meeting you Deidre." "Same here." "Bye Laurence." she whispered and walked out the door. Jax came back downstairs. "Are things okay?" "Yes, she just wants to give us time alone. What do you say we order some Japanese? It's still your favorite?" "You always did know me very well for a man who never fell in love with me." "I'm observant." Jax smiled. "And the way you would eat those bamboo shots, it didn't take a genius to figure out what your favorite foods are." he went over to the phone. "Jax?" "Yes?" "Did you ever love me?" "Deidre..." "I take that as a no. It's okay...I didn't love you either, so I suppose that makes us even. Keesha seems nice." she noticed his eyes light up. "You love her a lot, don't you?" "What do you want to eat Deidre?" "And I take that as a yes." Deidre laughed. "I hope that...we...don't cause any damage." "You couldn't if you tried." Jax smiled as he looked down at Laurence as he squealed happily. Deidre looked down as her phone rang. "Hello?...yes....*really*...oh...no wait...." she covered the receiver. "Jax?" "Yes." Jax hung up the phone. Obviously dinner wasn't going to be ordered. "How would you like to watch Laurence for a few days why I go on a shoot?" "Are you serious?" "Of course I'm serious. I'll swing by and get some more things for him and bring them back..." "Yes!" Jax smiled widely. "Great!..." she got back on the phone with her agent and Jax sat down on the floor. "Allright...what do you say to some father and son bonding time?" Laurence laughed. Keesha looked around at the house. Furniture was moved...what the..."Jax?" "Shh..." Jax warned Keesha as he came into the room. Keesha closed the door. "What?" Jax beckoned her and she walked over to him. He took her hand, leading her down the hall. He opened the door to the guest room and Keesha peaked inside, where she could see Laurence sleeping in a crib. "Deidre has left him with me for a few days while she goes on a photo shoot. And while she's gone, I'm going to find a place here in Port Charles for them to stay permanently." Jax whispered. Keesha squeezed his hand. "That's wonderful Jax." "I was worried he would have problems sleeping, but he seemed right at home here...I just sat here, watching him for hours. He's so beautiful." "Just like his Daddy....I saw Jerry, he says that John and Lady Jane will be here on Sunday. They wanted to wait until things died down some." Jax nodded. "Great. That gives them a chance to meet Deidre too....My entire family all together. I can't believe how lucky I am." Keesha let go of Jax's hand, resting hers on his back. Laurence shifted and began to cry. "Hey...what's wrong..." Keesha watched as Jax went over, picking Laurence up. He bounced him gently, softly promising him that it would be okay, and that Mommy would be back. Soon Laurence stopped crying, resting his head on Jax's shoulder and closing his eyes again. "Keesha..." Jax turned around and found the doorway empty. "Keesha..." Jax carried Laurence out of the room. "Kee..." the doorbell rang. Jax went over, opening it. "Hey..." "Shh!" "Newsflash, he's not sleeping." Jerry found himself smiling at Laurence as he stared at Jerry. "He has your eyes." Jerry walked in. "So I've been told." "Where's Keesha?" "Somewhere. She was with me just a minute ago." "Losing your wife, huh?" Jerry laughed, walking over to the newly moved couch facing the corner wall. "Uh..." Jax went over, and found Keesha sleeping, his coat draped over her body. Jerry took Laurence. "I hope you know what you're doing." Jax didn't answer. He just picked Keesha up and carried her upstairs. "Jax?" "You just missed him." Jerry came in from the kitchen the next morning. "Bobbie took him shopping with Laurence for baby things. Or maybe Laurence took them." he laughed, handing Keesha a cup of coffee. "Oh...." Keesha's voice trailed. "I would have gone..." "I know where they went, I can drop you off..." "No, that's okay. Knowing Jax people are probably coming over to change the guest room upstairs into a nursery, and I should be here." Jerry laughed. "You do know Jax. Why do you think I'm still here. Aside from the fact that he's babysitting me." "Someone needs to keep you from Miranda?" "Oh Lord, not you too. She keeps calling saying she needs to see me. That someone is setting her up." "And you want to see if it's right." "Maybe." "I'll tell you what, you stay out of this, and I'll go and see what she wants." "She won't tell you anything." "She will if I say you sent me and this is the best she's going to get." "But I didn't." Keesha looked at Jerry. "Keesha, go and see Miranda. Tell her I sent you, and that's the best she's going to get." "If you insist." Keesha laughed, and they made a toast with their coffee mugs. "Lucas had one, Michael had one, despite all the strides made, I don't think anything compares to an old-fashioned star and moon mobile." Bobbie held up one. "What do you think....though it's a lot more expensive than the one Lucas or Michael had....Luke would die if he knew how much money the items in this store were...what is it with you Jacks men...haven't you ever heard of Toys R Us....Jax..." "Huh?" "Look, why don't you call her? She's probably up by now." "No...I'm sure she has other things to do. As for this...It's great...what do you think Laurence..." "What color will the nursery be...Jax..." Jax walked past Bobbie and she looked down at Laurence in the cart. "See that...that's a look that you will get in your eyes when you're going to spoil the woman you're in love with. It has to be a male Jacks trait." she tickled Laurence and he laughed. Jax carried the last item in, closing and locking the door which led into the garage. He went to the playpin and kissed Laurence on the head. "Did you have fun? Tell you what, next time, I'm going to wake your step-mum like I wanted to and we'll go together." he decided. He had started to do so this morning, but he just wasn't sure if she would even have wanted to go. Things had happened so fast, he was unsure about a lot of things..."Speaking of...Keesha!" he called. He waited and then glanced around the room. He went over and picked up the note, reading out loud. "Hope that you had a nice time. I went out...will be back tonight. I love you. Keesha....now see..." he looked at Laurence. "...this is what happens when you don't follow your instincts. So remember, always follow your instincts." he balled up the note. Laurence looked as Jax placed the music box he had been carrying on the mantlepiece. "That's the Eiffel Tower..it's in Paris...and Paris is where me and your step-mum got married..." Jax explained, taking Laurence from his playpen and lifting him up in the air. Shani
