Chapter 70

Jax walked with V down the hall to Taggert's room. "I'm so happy God gave me another chance Jax." V stated quietly. "I'm so glad he woke up..." Jax put his arm around V. "Life is good that way...." His voice trailed off in shock at what he saw. Taggert pulled away from his passionate kiss with Elizabeth. "Elizabeth are you..." Lucky came up, standing near Jax and V. Jax looked back and forth and Lucky and V. "What is..." Jax tightened his hold on V. "V..." "You don't owe me anything." she said, her voice strong. "We're no longer together." "COME HERE!" Lucky ordered and Elizabeth sat up from the bed. "Don't you *dare* speak to her that way." V shook her head at Taggert's defense of Liz. She bolted down the hallway. Jax glared back at Taggert. "Might I suggest..." he held Lucky back. "That this not be done here." Lucky angrily removed Jax's hand. He shook his head at Liz and then walked away. Elizabeth looked back at Taggert, bursting into tears. "Now what?" Jax sighed, jogging down the hall to find V. "V!" He called as he stepped outside. "It's my own fault." V wiped her tears. "I broke up with him. What did I expect, him to wait forever...but with Elizabeth?" "You don't know that." "Yes I do. And I knew a long time ago. Remember." "V..." Jax sat down next to V, wiping the tear from her face. "Is there anything I can do?" "I don't know..." she sighed, resting her head on his shoulder. Jax had his driver take V back to her place, with a promise from her that she would call the moment that she needed anything. He walked back into the hospital, going to Keesha's room. "...no, Jerry. It was an order by Moreno." Jerry sighed. "You realize what AJ did?" "Are you sure?" Keesha looked over at him. "I'm positive." "He needs to pay." she whispered coldly. Jerry smiled, despite himself. "No one hurts Jax..." "...and gets away with it." Keesha agreed. Jax left the doorway, unnoticed. "...that was my inital reaction as well. But Keesha..." "What?" "We need to let this go." Keesha shook her head. "You didn't see him Keesha. It tore me up inside...seeing him in that jail worrying about you and about me...and then what happened to Taggert. Jax thinks this is all his fault...and I know what you're going to say, I told him the same thing...none of this is his fault. But he feels it is, and now all he does is worry that none of us will let this go. We have to let it go." Keesha sighed. "I know...it's just that..." "You hate to see anyone get away with hurting Jax." Keesha smiled. "You are an amazing brother." "Yeah, well I learned from the best. But if you tell him that, I'll deny it to the ends of the earth." "Where are you going?" "Out for awhile." Jax smiled at his mother and continued towards the elevator. He was going to get rid of this once and for all. "Ah...Mr. Jacks...have a seat." Stefan stood from behind the desk. "I hear that your wife is doing much better." "Yes. Thanks for asking. And thank you for paying my bail. I will repay you by the end of the week." Stefan waved his hand. "No matter. I hear the charges against you have been dropped as well." Jax arched his eyebrow. That wasn't supposed to be common knowledge until tomorrow. "Your attorney is my sister...and what she knows, I know." he emphasized. "Yes, it seems my alibi has been found. Do I thank you for that as well?" Stefan merely smiled. "So what do you want?" "Blunt." "Always." Jax stood. "And in a rush...." "You took care of the most important person to me. I just took care of the most important person to you. I thought to myself...what would Mrs. Jacks want...and you were the most logical answer. Consider us even." "As I've said before, I don't like to be even, I like to be ahead." Jax grinned. Suddenly his smile faded. "If you need anything at all, don't hesitate to contact." "I will." "Me. Is that understood?" "Completely. Let yourself out." "Another...." AJ ordered. "Don't you think you've had enough?" AJ looked over at Jax. "What do you want?" "Your head on a platter." Jax stated as his eyes grew cold. "You realize she could have died?" "What are you talking about?" "See, playing dumb is a really bad idea. Because you can either deal with me, or you can deal with Jerry. And trust me, Jerry is the last person you want to deal with." "What?" "We know...as you know Mac knows..." "You..." "Yes, we. We told Mac all about your plan. You know what I would bet..." Jax stood from the bar, taking a handfull of popcorn. "I would bet that your plans to set me up for Corinthos' and Hannah's murders, probably makes you the prime suspect now that I've been cleared. No thanks to you. So, where you going to just let me rot in jail...." "I don't..." "Playing dumb...alright, don't say I didn't warn..." "I wasn't going to let you go to jail. And I didn't have anything to do with Keesha being kidnapped....Jax, I really didn't." "Who's plan was it." "What?" "You didn't come up with this all by yourself. Lately you're not even sober enough to bother dressing...so you found out..." AJ took a swig from his beer. "...that Keesha killed...HEY!" "Just because I didn't kill Sonny, doesn't mean I won't kill you..." Jax said coldly as he tightened his grip on AJ's collar. "What happened to Keesha and her child was not her fault...truth be told, as far as I'm concerned it was yours, which gives me another reason to hate you..." he let go as AJ stared in shock. "Now, you found out how?" his voice calmed. "I started looking around for something she could be hiding because I knew she was hiding something by the way she was acting with Ned, and Jerry..." AJ spoke quickly. "then I got a call..." "From who?" "Some guy named Peter." AJ could tell the name registered. He continued. "He told me he knew what I was looking for, and so I met with him. He gave me her medical records, but there was nothing there...however it had the name of the hospital in Philadelphia, so I paid him to break in and get the rest....that's how I found out." "And?" "And when he told me, he told me that he could handle revenge too. For a price. So I thought, the best way to get to her..." "Was through me." "I just..." AJ stopped. "I paid him and he did the rest." "Where did my gun come from?" "I don't know. I don't know what happened with Jerry or with Keesha. Peter was only supposed to get evidence to the police, and all I did was send your alibi away...but I knew how to reach him...and he knew he was to come back...she deserved...I mean...I just wanted..." "I've heard enough." "Are you going to Mac?" "Of course I am. I never promised I wouldn't." Jax finished, leaving AJ alone at the bar. "Only if you want to." "Do you know how thankful I am for something to get me the hell out of this town?" V smiled. "I'll pay you in cash, so there won't be a paper trail. And the *moment* your instincts smell trouble, you stop looking for him, have you got me?" V grinned. "I love the protective thing Jax. But I am perfectly capable..." "Of taking care of myself." Jax finished for her. "What are you going to do when you find him?" "Find out who he's working for. Though I have a hunch. A dreaded hunch." Miranda walked over to Peter with a glass of wine. "But I failed." "Jax is miserable. You didn't fail." Peter grinned, kissing Miranda hungrily. "Only you would be worth going up against Helena for." Miranda smiled, straddling him. "Well, I couldn't let there be evidence that I knew Sonny was dead. It would look like I ordered it, though I didn't. Helena is very thorough. I'll be back." she kissed him once more, leaving the room. Leaving the house. Down the road she heard the loud exlposion. Very thorough. And predictable. Jax came into Keesha's room to find her sleeping. He sat down on the edge of the bed, taking her hand. Her and Jerry and his parents weren't going to do anything. Because this time he was going to be completely aware. This time he was going to be the protector. So that everyone else could live. Helena hated betrayals, Miranda remebered as she walked up the stairs to her bedroom in Greece. She knew it was only a matter of time before Peter died. And when Benjamin was killed this morning, Miranda knew tonight would be the night. No one tried to kill Jerry and get away with it. No one. "Surprise." Miranda laughed, turning on the light. "Hi." she whispered, walking over and kissing Nikolas sweetly. "When did you get here." "As soon as I got the call that you missed me." "Does Stefan know you're here?" "He knows I am in Greece, but he doesn't know why." "So how long can you stay?" "Awhile." Nikolas kissed her once more, leading her down to the bed. Just like Lucky. Miranda sighed as Nikolas kissed her neck. He was so easy to seduce. Just like his brother. Just like Jax. And with Nikolas by her side, and realizing that Stefan knew--even though Nikolas was unaware of the fact--Helena would leave Miranda alone for now. She was safe. Jerry's shooting was avenged. She kissed Nikolas again. Who would ever know. Shani
