Chapter 69

"Excuse me..." Jax leaned up, his eyes focusing. "Elizabeth?" he whispered. "Yeah...hi. Um...I brought some flowers from our class..." Jax stood. "Thank you." he went over and took them from her. "How is she?" "She'll be fine." Jax placed the flowers on the desk. "Do you know how Marcus is doing?" "Oh...not so good. I haven't seen him, but V has been there the entire time." Jax nodded, glancing back at Keesha. "Mr...I'm sorry...*Jax*. Do you mind if I..." "Oh, no. I'm sure she'd like that." Jax managed a smile. "I'll leave you alone...I'll see how Jerry is doing." Jax walked past her, leaving the hospital room. "Jax?!" Jane stood. Jax stopped in his tracks, looking over as John leaned up from his discussion with Jerry in the corner of the waiting room. "What's going on here?" Jax asked coldly. "Nothing...have you eaten?" John asked. "I brought you a change of clothes...I thought you could use the shower here..." Jane reached out with a bag. "How is Keesha?" "She'll be fine." Jax repeated for what seemed like the umpteenth time. "One of her students is visiting her now." Jax continued to stare at his father and brother. "What were you talking about?" he asked again. "You really should eat something." Jax sighed. "Leave it alone." "Jax....you have to take care of yourself. You haven't left that room in over 24 hours..." "That's not what I mean." Jax finally took the bag Lady Jane held, as he answered his father. "I mean whatever you are up to, leave it alone." "Jax..." Jerry warned, his voice soft but firm. Jax sighed again. "Well...I am going to leave. I have to meet with Stefan to..." "What part of leave it alone don't you understand?!" Jax snapped. "I will deal with Stefan if need be...and as for everything else, you..." "Jax...take me back to my room." Jax turned his attention away from his father, glancing at Jerry. "Now." Without another word, Jax moved behind Jerry's wheelchair, taking him down the hall and leaving his parents alone. "What is your problem?!" Jerry climbed back into bed. "Do you know why Keesha is in there?!" "Because of AJ!" "No...because of me...listen to me...the *only* good that came out of this damn Sonny plan was falling in love with Keesha...and when that happened, I should have just been satisfied and left it alone..." Jax took a deep breath, choking. He walked over to the window. "But I didn't. And Bobbie left you..." "Jax..." "And then I got arrested for his murder...*but* not before...not before letting Keesha know how *upset* I was that she tried to protect me and..." "Keesha wouldn't want you beating yourself up over that." "The last extensive conversation we had was me telling her how *disappointed* I was..." Jax continued to talk, mainly to himself. "Keesha *knew* you'd be upset...and she was willing to take the consequences. She told me, *he has every right to be angry. I would be angry.* You didn't throw her out...you didn't shut her out..." "Yes, I did." Jerry sighed. "Keesha wouldn't want you beating yourself up over that. You had every right to be angry at her...but she knows you love her...the entire *world* knows you love her. You're angry with me all the time...but you just can't live without me..." Jerry joked, attempting to lighten Jax's mood. "I may have had to try." "Jax..." "You got shot, you could have *died*. Marcus is in a coma. And now Keesha won't wake up...*all* of this happened because I wouldn't quit while I was ahead. I wouldn't be satisfied until I *got* Sonny...I should have left it alone." "Damn it Jax...you were arrested because *AJ* set you up. I was shot because AJ set you up Taggert is in a coma because AJ set you up. And Keesha..." "Keesha *told* me no one should go digging in her past! Because of what AJ might do!" Jax turned finally and looked at Jerry. "But Dad wouldn't let it go...and AJ found out...and..." "This has *nothing* to do with Dad! And even if it did you cannot blame HIM or ME or YOURSELF because AJ is a sick bastard! And he's going to..." "NO! NO MORE! I will *not* let revenge cause me to lose ANYONE ELSE!" Jerry jumped, taken aback by Jax's anger And worry. "I'm begging you to drop it, Jer." his voice was soft once more as he pleaded. "AJ needs to pay." Jerry was defiant. "Keesha needs to live. You need to live...I just want to *live* Jerry. Okay?" Jerry shook his head. "Bobbie needs you..." "That's not fair..." "Playing fair isn't going to get me what I want. We turn the evidence over to Mac, and then let him handle it. That's all, okay?" Again, Jerry shook his head. "Your wife needs you. Get out." Jax stared at Jerry, trying to see if he understood. Then he left, without another word. Just that deep sigh. Jax pulled up the shades in the hospital room, opening the window a crack so that the night breeze could invade. "Okay..." Jax sat down in the chair once more. "What shall we talk about now? I look like crap..." he laughed. "I haven't shaved, my hair is a mess...I'm barely recognizable. You however, manage to be beautiful despite...everything." he touched her cheek, comforting himself in the warmth. His other hand took hold of hers. "Maybe because of everything." he breathed deeply. "Hey...I know...I'll read you the card from Liz and everyone...what do you say Keesha?" he waited a second, hoping for a response. "Okay..." he stood, reaching over to the desk... Jax froze, feeling a very light grip on his hand. He turned and looked. "Keesha..." he whispered. "Baby..." Jax's heart stopped as very slowly, Keesha opened her eyes. "Keesha? MONICA!!!" he yelled as he continued looking at Keesha. "I love you." she whispered finally, her eyes tearing as she was able to say what she had been trying to wake up to say for so very long. "Thank you!" Jax leaned over, kissing her. "Thank you..." Shani
