Chapter 64
Chapter 64
"I'm getting pressure. Sonny being a criminal doesn't even matter
anymore, people don't like it when they think the rich are getting away
with something." Dara sighed as she leaned back in her chair.
"So what are you going to do." Mac asked.
"I'm doing it now. A grand jury has convened, and I'm going to let them
decide. If they think there's enough evidence, then arrest him. If not,
then drop it. For good."
Mac nodded. "Sounds fair enough. Why aren't you at the hearing?"
"This won't be my case. I have Moreno's starting in 2 days. I don't have
time to do Jax's too."
"Is it that, or because you want away from it."
Dara didn't answer. Something didn't sit right with her.
But perhaps she was wrong. And she couldn't just continue to sit on this
because she felt Jax was probably innocent. Fact was that she didn't
know, and she couldn't run her office on gut instincts. She had to run it
on evidence. And when she couldn't make up her mind, that's what grand
juries were for.
A few days later, Jerry sat down across from John and Jane. "Where's
Jax?" they asked their eldest in unison.
"At work."
"At work?"
"He said he won't let Sonny take up any more of his life than necessary."
"That's ridiculous. What about you? What have you found out." John
groaned.
"Nothing. Absolutely nothing. The owner of that resturant has
disappeared without a trace. But now that you're here, I'm going to go on
another look around."
Jane nodded. "You take care of yourself. We'll watch Jax." she promised
Jerry. Jax was so important to Jerry. She could tell this was eating him
up inside.
Jerry gave his mother a quick smile. "Keesha knows everything, so don't
bother trying to hide anything from her." he added as he got up. "I'll be
seeing you."
"Jax, are you listening."
Jax looked up from his contract at Alexis.
"If the grand jury calls to speak to you, you have to be really careful.
The assistant DA can ask you whatever he wants, because it won't be
introduced at trial via this hearing. And I can't object to anything. Do
you understand?"
"I got it the first time. If that's all, you can show yourself out, I
have work to do."
Alexis sighed. She stood from her chair and left Jax's office. As she
did, her cell phone rang. "Alexis Davis....yes...." Alexis hung up. She
turned and went back to Jax's office.
"What now?"
"You've been indicted." she stated simply. "I suggest you turn yourself
in now, and save the spectacle of having yourself arrested."
Jax looked down at his paper. He got up slowly and picked up the phone,
dialing.
"Hello?"
"I need you to pick up my parents and come down to the police station."
"Why?" Keesha stood from the couch.
"I'm being arrested." Jax finished, hanging up.
Jerry hung up the phone, throwing his bag back on the floor. "Jax went to
turn himself in. They indicted him."
Bobbie sat up. "No..."
"I have to go."
"I'll come with you."
"No. I'm not coming back here. I'm going to see if he's okay, and then
I'm going to go straight to Berkeley." he kissed her quickly and ran out
the door.
Bobbie got up from his couch and jogged over to the door. Jerry turned
and looked at her, blowing her a kiss...
And all of a sudden a chill went through her body.
Jax held Keesha's hand quietly, looking straight ahead, as Alex read his
rights to him. "...do you understand these rights as I've read them to
you?"
John held on to Jane tightly.
"Yes." Jax answered.
"Would you like to make a statement."
"No, he would not." Alexis answered for him.
"Please stand."
Jax took a breath, him and Keesha standing from the chairs. He let go of
her hand and Keesha glanced over at his parents, reminding herself that
she had to be strong.
She looked back as Jax turned around, and Alex placed him in handcuffs.
Jane burst into tears and ran out, John chasing after her.
Jax looked up in the direction of his mother's cry and shook his head.
Whoever did this was going to pay.
"Do you want me to check on them?" Alexis asked and Jax nodded.
"Remember, say nothing." she reminded him. He waited until she was gone
and then looked at Keesha again.
"Where's Jerry?" he whispered.
The man from the bushes aimed carefully.
2 shots rang out...
Bobbie screamed...
Watching as Jerry fell to the ground, clutching his chest.
