Chapter 61

"Nightmares?" Luke stared across the bar at Lucy. "I wonder what they're about." "You're psychic, don't you know?" "Oh be quiet. I just have this overwhelming urge to ask him." "That's because you're nosy." "No...it's because I am very interested in the subconcious mind. If you were Jax..." "Please..." Luke pretended to throw up. "I'm serious! What would you have nightmares about." "People realizing how dull I am." "Jax isn't dull." "Legs, everyone is dull compared to me." he winked. "I'm *serious*. What would give you nightmares regularly, if you were Jax?" "I don't know, and guess what...." Luke went over to help the new customer. No one even noticed as Jason got up from the bar. "What?" Jason asked as Sonny walked into his penthouse. "What makes you think there's something?" "Because I know you." "I had a run in with Golden Boy...figured something out." "What?" Jason repeated as he stood. "Keesha is important to him...for whatever reason." "I thought ELQ was the reason." "No I mean...you know how you want to help Monica sometimes. Even though she's a Quartermaine?" "Yes." "Because you don't want to see anything happen to her. You may not love her, as a mother, but you don't want anything to happen." "Right." "Same here. Jax worries that something is going to happen to Keesha. Of course seeing as how everyone around him almost dies, it's probably a good worry." Sonny poured himself a cognac. "So then I'll see you next week?" "How about in two weeks?" Jax looked at his calendar. "How about if the nightmares don't subside a little, we make it that I see you this Friday." Gail insisted. "Okay." Jax laughed as he got up. He left the office, walking down the hall. The key, Gail had told him, was to acknowledge his fear of losing Keesha, and acknowledge that it may be there for awhile. But with acknowledgement came a sort of power...soon he would be able to control his fears instead of the other way around. Sounded simple enough. The problem was that to really acknowledge his fear would mean that Jax would really have to admit, conciously, that there was a chance, however small that he could lose Keesha. And the last time he conciously admitted to such, it caused him to ask her to leave. And break her heart. Not to mention his. Acknowledgement. Easier said than done. "Don't nightmares generally equal guilt. If they're recurring." Dara sighed. "Sometimes. Who's been having nightmares?" "Jax." Mac leaned back in his chair. "And you know this how?" "People." Mac refised to answer, knowing if he said because of Jason Dara would get up and leave again. "Who's people?" "You know, he has a shrink now, over at General. Gail Baldwin." "Really? The timing *is* strange...and Jax would feel guilty about Hannah." "Yes he would...." Taggert watched as Jason came upstairs from his visit with Moreno. "I don't like this." "Neither do I. But there's nothing we can do about it." Mac slapped Taggert on the back. Taggert left the station, getting into his car. He knew it was the only bargaining chip he had, but... "Do you know how absolutely odd the people in Berkeley are?" Jerry said into the payphone. Keesha laughed. "I've heard. So did you find anything?" Jerry looked at the young woman passing him, with a purple mohawk. "Uh...the reataurant is closed." "That can't be right, I just talked to them three days ago." "I know. Strange don't you think? Whoever is setting Jax up has a lot of power. If he's being set up." "So, now what?" Keesha changed the subject. Jax wasn't capable of killing-even Sonny. Right? She shook the thought out of her head. "Well, I'm going to keep searching. I'm pretty good at finding things that are hard to find. I'll be in touch." Keesha looked up as the door opened. "Okay." she said as she smiled at Jax. "Bye." she hung up. Jax came over and pulled Keesha off the couch, enclosing her in a hug. "Hi." he squeezed her tighter. "Hi. How did it go?" Jax continued to hold Keesha in his arms for a moment. Slowly he let her go. "Do you know I've always hated homework." Keesha laughed. "Okay...." Jax grinned. "So who was on the phone." "No one. Dinner should be ready soon." Jax nodded and watched as Keesha headed off to the kitchen. After a second he went and followed her. "Keesha...." "Yes?" she took some tomatoes from the refigerator. When Jax didn't answer she turned and looked at him. "Yes?" she repeated. Jax sighed. "I adore you." "I adore you more." she grinned. "I'd do anything for you, you know." she finished seriously. Jax took the tomatoes from her and rinsed them. She was hiding something. He sighed again. But she would tell him when she felt the need, he reminded himself. She always had. He began slicing the vegetables to make a salad. Keesha leaned against the opposite counter. There was absolutely no way that Jax would kill Sonny...he wouldn't do that. He may have threatened to do it. But he wouldn't...her mind drifted to all the things that she never thought AJ was capable of, yet she soon found out that he was. But Jax wasn't AJ. And he would have told her. She left the kitchen. It didn't matter anyway. Whether he killed Sonny or not, there was no way that she was going to lose him because of it. "I'll get it." she called as the doorbell rang. She jogged over and opened it. "Hi Marcus. V isn't here..." "I know. I need to speak to Jax." Jax came out of the kitchen, drying his hands on a washcloth. "Yes?" Keesha looked over at both men. "I'll go...upstairs." she excused herself and left. "That information you wanted...about Moreno's visitor." "Yes?" Taggert sighed. "How's V." "She's fine." "Jason. Jason has been visiting Moreno." And before Jax could ask anymore questions, Taggert left. Shani
