Chapter 57
Chapter 57
Jax enclosed Keesha in a giant hug. "Have a safe flight." he said as
he closed his eyes.
"Sure thing." she smiled. She pulled back, giving his lips a small
peck. "I'll call you as soon as I get there. And you, try and get
some sleep, okay?"
Jax nodded. "I'll sleep better when you come home." he joked. "So
remember that before you get all caught up with your Philidelphia
friends." he kissed her softly. "I love you."
"I love you too." Keesha let go of Jax and picked up her carry-on bag.
Jax watched as, with a wave, she flashed her ticket to the agent and
walked through the security gate.
Jax waited until Keesha disappeared from his sight and then started
back to his car.
"Jax?"
He turned around. "Hi Emily." he grinned. "What brings you here?"
"I was saying goodbye to Juan. He's going to Philly...hey, isn't
Keesha from there? Maybe she could call him and let him know of some
places to go...."
"Irony of ironies..." Jax and Emily continued their walk. "...she just
headed back there today, for a high school friend's surprise party.
Why is Juan going?"
"Some job opportunity." she shrugged. "He said he'd be back soon.
I've gotta go, I'm meeting Ned." she waved and ran off.
"Some job opportunity..." V came from seemingly nowhere. "Jax, we've
gotta talk."
"Let me get this straight. My father called Juan Santiago and told him
to investigate Keesha? Why?"
"I don't know...all I know is that the call came from his number, that
Juan has been asking around about her, and that this trip was planned
earlier, but cancelled, probably not coincidentially, when it was
discovered that Keesha would be going. Your dad called again and told
him to go when she did, so she could be observed."
"That doesn't sound right...that sounds like something they would have
done a long time ago."
V looked at him. "I guess. But I have the phone records right
here...and I caught their last conversation on the payphone outside of
Kelly's. Do you think Jerry may have an idea?"
"Maybe. But that doesn't do me any good. If my father wanted it done,
then it gets done, unless I put a stop to it. Which, I'm going to
do...after my meeting."
Dara got off the elevator and walked up to the receptionist. "Excuse
me, I'm supposed to be meeting with Jerry today."
"Yes, Ms. Jensen." the lady smiled. "I'll let him know that you're
here."
Dara returned her smile and went over to the row of chairs near the
stairs, choosing one and taking a seat. She opened her briefcase and
pulled out her notes, wanting to make sure she asked Jerry all the
questions she needed to find out what he knew about Moreno and...
Dara looked up as a door opened. Jason stepped out of the office,
nodding and then closing the door. Without a word he walked past,
going to the elevator and pressing the down button. A second later the
elevator came and he got on.
The receptionist hung up. "He can see you now, Ms. Jensen. His office
is the first door on the right."
"Thank you." Dara got up, walking down the hall. She knocked on
Jerry's door, and while she waited she looked over her shoulder at the
office on the left.
There, the plate on the wall told her, Jax did all of his business.
Jerry opened the door with a grin. "Come in."
What business could Jax possibly have with Jason?
" 'ello?"
"Hey."
"Jax!" John exclaimed. "How's it going."
Jax was quiet. How should he handle this. "Fine. I was just calling
to see...how things are going. Anything new?"
"Nope. Not on this end. What about you...you know you have to call
back, your mother is out..." his voice trailed as Jax's anger grew.
As always. Hiding things. Why should he even bother asking, he
wouldn't get a straight answer.
"Things with Keesha are going really well...I'm very happy." he decided
to hint.
"Good. I expect no less. Is she there?"
"No, she went to Philidelphia for a friend's birthday. She'll be back
in a few days. Besides, I'm calling from work, haven't you been using
that caller id Jerry set up for you."
John sighed. "Sometimes. So, tell me, how is that brother of yours..."
Jax leaned back in his chair with a sigh. "He's fine..."
"...yeah, she was on the flight with me. She got me up to first class
and then she offered to show me around...we're about ready to go to
dinner...I miss you."
Emily grinned into her phone. "Me too. Tell Keesha I said hi, okay?"
"Will do. I'll see you soon..."
"Wait! What about the job thing...how's that going?..."
"It's going." Juan stated.
"Details?"
"No. I love you." he hung up.
Emily listened to the dial tone for a second before hanging up. She
left her bedroom and jogged down the stairs. "Has the meeting
started.." she interrupted Jerry who was in a huddle with Jax.
"No. Which is the same answer I have for you." Jerry finished curtly
to Jax. "And you should know better."
"By what? Are great track record on this? Just pass the message
along."
"Pass it yourself..."
Emily walked into the Quartermaine living room. It was interesting to
see that even the best families faught sometimes.
A second later Jerry came in. "Emily, can I talk to you for a moment?"
"That's really stupid Em." Juan said into the payphone as he waited for
Keesha to pay their bill.
"Can you give me a straight answer. Are you investigating Keesha?"
"Why would I do that? I swear rich people are paranoid...no offense."
Emily chuckled. "Shut up....but what's the job about."
Juan sighed. "It's not really a job...it's about finding my father."
"Oh."
"I didn't want to get your hopes up after all the near misses we've
had. So I wanted to take this lead on my own. Okay?"
"Sure...I'm sorry I pryed..."
Keesha looked up at the knock on her hotel room door. She hopped out
of bed, and went over to the door. "Jax!" she wrapped her arms around
him tightly.
"Hey..." he returned her hug.
She moved back and pulled him in. "What are you doing here?"
"I had a feeling I should come...so I did." he closed the door. "How
are things?"
"Great. I had a shopping day yesterday..." she laughed. "Though it
was for someone else...oh and Juan is here...you know, Emily's
boyfriend. So I showed him around. Small world huh?"
"Small world." Jax agreed.
"Mr. Jacks, I don't know how they found out, but they did. Jerry was
asking Emily about it, and..."
"Now Jax is there." Benjamin finished.
"He is? So now what?"
"Nothing. Keep looking. We'll give you the tools, all you have to do
is get the information..."
"But if they're on to it..."
"So they're on to it. Just don't let them bully you. My boys are more
bite than anything. Besides, you want to know something, I want to
know something. In fact, right now..." Benjamin looked at Peter. "I
have somewhere for you to go...while Jax is occupied."
Alex knocked and opened the door to Mac's office. "You wanted to see
me?"
"Yes, I just got a message from Dara, concerning Jax, and Jason."
"Jax and Jason?"
"They had a meeting yesterday."
"Concerning?"
"We don't know...maybe something to do with his bail..."
"Which Jax having paid, is odd in and of itself."
Mac nodded. "So I want you to really focus on Jax now. Consider him
our number one suspect."
"What about the Jason connection."
"Jason's disloyal. When we need to find out about that connection, it
shouldn't be that hard. But we'll cross that bridge when we come to
it. We don't want Jason getting any ideas that he can make a deal
here."
"The DA's office wouldn't make a deal."
"But Jason doesn't know that...so maybe we could play it as if..."
Mac's voice trailed as he thought of his options. "No matter. I need
you to look at Jax, and look at him hard. Just be careful to not put
him on alert...we don't want that right now."
